Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my boyfriend's freshly-repainted car got keyed. He's literally more of an inconsolable wreck now than he was when his own mother passed away last year. When I tried hinting that he was overreacting, he told me to go to hell. FML
Today, my wife put petrol in my diesel car and ruined the engine, I got a bit upset, but I wasn’t screaming or yelling or anything, but she flew completely off the handle at me at how I was putting all the blame on her and it wasn’t fair. I ended up apologising to her for her mistake. FML
Today, my father-in-law asked why my wife had a black eye. I got as far as, “Yeah that was me, I…” before he broke my nose. I get the 'protecting his daughter' thing, but if he’d let me finish, I’d have said “was putting up a shelf she wanted, but I dropped it on her. Total accident.” FML
Today, I bought my very first car that I spent years saving for. A few hours after I signed all the papers, I let my boyfriend go for a test drive. He totaled it. FML
Today, my wife caught me crying over her miscarriage and she started yelling and screaming at me to "man up" because she should be the sad one, not me. FML
Today, my husband and I got into a fight because I refused to let him use my fingernail to clean the plaque off his teeth. FML
Today, my wife keyed my car and spilled wine on the seats because she saw I commented on a female friend’s picture on Facebook. I told her how repairs are gonna be expensive, and she responded, “You should have thought about that before complimenting other bitches on Facebook!” FML
Today, I scratched my car with a bottle of scratch remover deeply enough that the scratch remover couldn't remove it. FML
Today, my husband is such a cheap-ass that he spent two days underneath his old beater car with an angle grinder and a welding rig, grinding off some old rusty supports, and welding on new ones. He makes enough money to throw that thing in the scrapyard and buy a brand new car. I don't get it. FML
Today, my husband got mad at me for not helping take out the groceries from the car. He yelled that I'm lazy, and that he regrets our marriage. I guess he forgot that the door handle on that side is broken and he had to let me out of the car. FML

I'm not surprised. I don't know what his relationship with his dad was like, but I have a good guess of what his relationship with his classic car is.

Well that sounds like a line from a 1950’s “I Love Lucy” TV sitcom - “you have some explaining to do”… A lot depends on the context which was left out. Did OP have permission to use the classic car? Was OP at fault for the scratch? Did OP know that husband cared deeply about his immaculate condition classic car?… When it comes to treasured possessions, it matters less the monetary value of the thing than the emotional attachment you have. Obviously this car had a great emotional value to OP’s husband. And to be honest, I think he showed a lot of restraint in his grief instead of apparently lashing out at OP… OP, just because something is less important to you than someone else means nothing at all. When people have a strong emotional attachment to an object, it usually means the object is a stand-in for something else. Sometimes the person doesn’t even recognize that themselves. When you know that something is especially important to someone you care for, it’s best to leave it alone… In the meantime, offer to get the car restored and pay for it yourself. If it’s just a minor scratch a good auto detailer could probably take care of the issue. If it’s worse, it’s going to be expensive (auto body repair and paint).

Doubly stupid because it could even be redirected grief from the father’s death that OP is getting tied into knots over.

Potentially more **** his life than **** your life. When my father passed a few years ago, after about half a year of paliative care in the home from me and my sisters, I was numb. Cold. Couldn't cry, not even during the funeral. A month or so later, of all the stupid things, my freezer broke and the additional stress from that made me break as well, finally allowing me some good hard relief in the form of crying and helping me process my grief from the loss of my father. We humans work in weird and different ways, and it could be the same for your husband, thus potentially FHL for having someone like you around.
