Oh, hai Mark!
Today, my mom's "hobby" of rescuing homeless people became very real. We now have 3 more people living in our house, and none of them have a sense of personal space. I wake up to their faces in my windows. Thanks mom. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my mother moved in to my 2-bedroom apartment with me. She brought her boyfriend, 4 chihuahuas, and 2 birds with her. FML
Today, my mom’s house has several comfortable places to rest in every room. For the cats and dogs, that is. Unfortunately for me, I'm a human. FML
Today, I discovered that the reason my mom hasn't been noticing the extra cleaning I've done lately is because her boyfriend took credit when she asked about it; and was rewarded for it in bed. I helped him get with my mom. FML
Today, my flatmate moved in with me. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to me, so did her mother. FML
Today, while living in Florida, I had a conversation with my mother explaining that it might be best for me to come back home. Her response, "Don't worry, they have plenty of homeless shelters down there if you need a place to stay." Thanks Mom. FML
Today, after losing my job, my apartment and my man, I had to move back in with my mom, at 37. She’s a total slob; I can’t function without clean, organized spaces. So, hey, at least I have a new full-time job now: cleaning up after her. FML
Today, I suggested to my mom that, as a thank you for me taking care of her 2 dozen animals for weeks, she might get rid of the garbage heaps that have been sitting in inconvenient places for months, and also finally repair the shower in the house I rent from her. FML
Today, my mom got a new furnace put in because they found out the old one was leaking carbon monoxide. This is six months after I got kicked out because I was sleeping too much, so my mom thought I was using drugs. FML
Today, as I was riding my bike home from school, I saw a homeless man sitting on a bench. I was about to walk up to him and give him money, but before I could do anything my mother walked up and kissed him. My mom is dating this guy. FML
Today, I came home from a week-long vacation, only to find my mother-in-law didn't just dog-sit while I was gone; she moved in, along with all her possessions, and seems to think it's a permanent deal. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?

Nice hobby. Glad to see your mom thinks of hers and her families' safety first.

The name and cause escapes me right now but your mom might have a little mental thing going on right now. Get her some help. Or maybe she might just be waiting for their crazy checks to start coming to the house so she can kill them, have you bury them out back and keep the money.

If all else fails... make sure you lock the door, and shove the table to block it. Keep a knife under your bed (an ex-commando uncle of my boyfriend used to do that, his family always made sure they never surprised him in his sleep). And get some curtains!

Wow...How sad that you can't pick up some of the same virtues your mom has. She is so incredibly brave and caring. I know people who do this kind of thing as a part of their church. With the rate of people becoming homeless in this society, I would think more would have compassion. Put yourself in their shoes. What if you lost your home tomorrow? People look down on the homeless instead of trying to be understanding. Ugh, you guys make me sick :/

Are you kidding me? It's their fault that they couldn't make it in society in the first place. For OP to have to suffer like that is just insane, three dirty people who obviously aren't smart enough to be employed or resourceful enough to make it on the street are sharing his space now. That's just ******.

The way I read the post, the poster's mother just finds people on the street, takes them home, treats them to dinner and a bath, then lets them stay there. That is DANGEROUS. Charity- or church-sponsored programs for the homeless look into the individuals' backgrounds to make sure that no potentially dangerous person is placed in an innocent, well-meaning person's home. Taking in Joe Shmoe after a background check and a drug test is fine. It gives him a place to stay. But taking in Joe Shmoe right off the streets without knowing if he's mentally stable???? That's just idiotic. Mr. Joe Shmoe might have mental problems, a drug addiction, or any other number of problems that could place her entire household in real and immediate danger. If the poster's mother wants to help the less fortunate, she should volunteer at shelters and soup kitchens, and look into REPUTABLE sponsor programs, not just take people in off the streets and put her family in harm's way.

The OP claims his location is California, not Bum **** Egypt! ;)

Call the cops and tell them there are several crazy bums trespassing.

wow, she is putting your whole family in danger, or setting you up for being robbed... I know her heart is in the right place, but slearly, her brain isnt. Why doesn't she go volunteer at the soup kitchen or shelter if it makes her feel better?

I happen to think that you shouldn't really be complaining. I mean, don't get me wrong, I am sorry that your personal space has been invaded, and that your mom's decision is affecting you. But, your mom's "hobby" is actually really good. WAY TO GO MOM! Seriously, with this economy, at any moment your mom or dad or even you (depending on your age) could loose your job and then maybe even your house. More and more people are becoming homeless everyday, and if it were you, I am sure you would appreciate it if you were given a home by some compassionate lady. Don't look at the bad side. I am sure that I would not appreciate this hobby all that much if it were my mom, but try to see the good your mom is doing for these people. Your mom must be a truly awesome lady to be so kind to complete strangers. If I were you, I would be really proud of her. Not cursing your life because you have a home and you have to share it with people who really need one right now. Sorry, it's just what I think.

#39 they have homeless shelters for a reason you dumb ****. This kid's life shouldn't be put in danger for some people he doesn't know at all.

While it is great that the OP's mom is reaching out to help the less fortunate, there are far better ways to do this. As someone above mentioned most homeless people are that way because they are struggling with addiction or mental illness, by bringing pontentially dangerous people into her house she is putting her family in danger. If she really wants to help she could become more involved in food/clothing drives or volunteer at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen. There are many ways to help people without endangering her family.

I am sorry that you feel like you had to call me something like a dumbf*** just to get your point across. I respect your opinion and all, but that gives you no right to call me that just because my opinion is different than yours. I mean, your right they do have homeless shelters, and that's a good way for the mom to help out. And, the kid's life shouldn't be put in danger. You're right. But, I'm just putting my opinion out there. So, you can stop insulting me for acting "dumb".
