New hire
Today, my mom started her new job; she's now my new coworker. She's already told the other girl I'd said she talks too much, and has berated me for not calling her "Mom" while at work. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my mother-in-law became my boss. FML
Today, at work I got told off by my manager for texting while working. Enraged by this, I trash talked her to the new girl at work. The new girl, a.k.a. my manager's daughter. FML
Today, I start work in an office, with my mother. FML
Today, I accidentally called my boss "Mom." Now she is jokingly telling everyone that I'm the long-lost daughter she gave up for adoption, because she knew I'd be a failure. FML
Today, my mother, who insists on sticking her nose into every aspect of my life, found out I'm only "middle management" and called my boss to criticize her for undervaluing me, demanding I be promoted immediately. I'm now the laughing stock of my office. FML
Today, I started my new job, and was introduced to my colleague. She seemed old and quite experienced, so I thought she was going to teach me. I was wrong. It turns out I'm a replacement for her daughter, who used to secretly do all of her work for her because she has no idea how to do it herself. FML
Today, my mom has been calling me every ten minutes, asking me questions about her new computer. She called me at work, and I rudely answered her question. She called back, talked to my boss, saying she was a customer that called in, and I was rude to her. FML
Today, I brought my mom to my work’s annual party. She insisted on meeting my boss and introduced herself as my "very supportive, overly involved mother." To make it worse, she gave him a lecture about how I was “just too shy” to ask for a raise. My boss is now both confused and terrified. FML
Today, I introduced my mother to my new girlfriend. My mom made a very nasty comment about her in Spanish, not realizing that my girlfriend teaches Spanish at the local school. FML
Today, I angrily scolded one of my employees for making an avoidable mistake for the third time. Unfortunately, my mother decided to pay me a surprise visit, and arrived mid-rant. She chewed me out for being mean and made me apologize. Now everyone at work calls me "mama's boy" and nobody takes me seriously. FML

I can't imagine having to work with my mother like that, I feel for you OP.

She needs to know that your work relationship and personal relationship have to be kept very separate.

I can imagine how uncomfortable it would be, but she is still your mom. The company hired her knowing she was your mother, there is no harm in calling her Mom. Also, you should never speak ill of your family, especially your mom! Regardless if you actually mean it or not, people will perceive you as disrespectful. Be proud that she found a job OP!

We don't actually know if OP said anything about her mom, just that OP's mom told a coworker that. Also, not every mom deserves to be respected. There are some pretty terrible ones out there.

Well you know what they say, "Mothers know best"

By the example set by this mom, obviously not.

Mums are like that op, I know it's embarrassing but sometimes you just need to deal with it
queerdragon 20
He does not have to deal with it. He had the job first. His mother is not only making it hard to get along with his co-workers (by sharing personal information), "Mom" is making it hard for him to work by trying to mother him in his own job.

In a way, I feel like his mom is trying to get 'settled. ' Hopefully soon she'll act like a mature human.

Wow that's terrible. I would try to find another job (or convince your mother to). FYL, OP.

Mum's the word...

I'm surprised she got a job where you work. Most places I know of don't hire 2 people of the same family in general let alone working together in the same workspace. It is not ethnical or something like that.
kwyk 23
It doesn't sound like you know many places. But tell me, would it be ethnical if they were from somewhere exotic?

Me & my mum used to work at the same supermarket & since I was 15 & couldn't drive we had a lot of shifts together. They obviously didn't have a problem with family members working together.
queerdragon 20
Most of the time, parents and children can work together with no problem. I know many a successful family business. It is when parents or children do not know when to keep their personal lives outside the workplace that problems arise.
ileenefudge 29
Many places I have applied to where I have had family members work have all told me they wouldn't hire me because it would cause issues inside the workplace such as bringing personal problems from home to work ect. Petco, for example is one of these places. It's the same with working with your spouse. If you have history together you *might* get the job but will not be working in the same department. The movies that I worked at is an example of this as well.

Holy shit that's terrible. I would never want my mom or any family member ad a colleague.

You should cut those fucken apron strings

Ask to be put in a different division. Many companies have policies about family members working together, so either you or she can be a different shift or position.
