Indoctrinated
Today, I realized that because of my construction job, I have spent such a huge amount of time with older, cynical guys that I keep uncontrollably using the phrase "fucking kids these days" regularly like an idiot. I'm 18. FML

Thanksgiving
Questions about your love life, a burnt turkey and the cousin who knows everything: Thanksgiving, a contact sport.
Today, a student of mine used the phrase "well, you know, like back in your day" about defining "going out". I'm only 24. FML
Today, at work I put myself squarely in the lame / old people category when I foolishly asked out loud what FML meant. FML
Today, a cute new guy I always run into at work hit on me. Turns out he's only 18. I'm old enough to be his mom. FML
Today, I used to look so young for my age that in high school, I was regularly mistaken for a freshman. I never succeeded in getting dates because of it. Today, I'm 25 years-old and regularly get confused for being in my thirties. I guess all the stress from work, loneliness, and rejection really caught up. FML
Today, while at my tutoring job, a middle school kid couldn't find a word in the online dictionary. I told him he could check a regular paperback dictionary. His response was, "That's what you did in your day. That's not what we do in our day." I'm only 19. FML
Today, I started a new job. As I was introducing myself during the morning get together with the team, I forgot how old I was, and panicked. I ended up saying I was "twenty-fine." I’m 27. FML
Today, I found out that the 19-year-old I've been seeing is really 26, with two kids and a pregnant fiancée. I'm only 17. FML
Today, I, a person who will be 21 in a few months, was mistaken for my mom's older brother. My mom is in her fifties. Apparently this is becoming increasingly common, because the world sucks. I didn't realize it was affecting me this badly. FML
Today, while I was in a bathroom stall, I overheard my younger coworkers discussing my age. They said, “How old is she? Some days she looks like she's 35 and other days she looks like she's 58!” FML
Today, man do I feel old. For the first time ever, a teen thug with more acne spots than brain cells told me to, “Piss off grandad.” Grandad? Guess I look older than I feel. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?

You might want to avoid playgrounds and/or schools.

Learn to hate the world early, it'll save you a lot of time learning the hard way.

It just shows that you're mature at a young age

Nah, it shows nothing of Op's maturity. What it does show is that he is just simply impressionable. That's it. Not really a big deal at all.

I don't understand how cynicism is maturity. In fact, the inability to understand that a certain age demographic is going to behave a certain way and ultimately mature later is a sign of immaturity.

Not necessarily, just saying.

You don't have to spend time around cynical older adults..you just have to spend time in high school listening to the sophomores who don't know what responsibility means.

All it takes is one news story about a ******* kid who posts pictures of his crime on Facebook, or had to check facebook midcrime, and ends up arrested because of it.

Once you get in the "real world" and work to pay bills, it becomes easy to refer to anyone younger as a ******* kid. Just remember you were there too and they will figure it out like you.
