The mama bird has to kick the baby bird out of the nest eventually. The baby bird should shit on the nest before it leaves.

I can't figure out why people like that have kids. Honestly, it's incredible, kicking your child out like that ._.

It's ok, they may not go through with it. My parents said the same thing but when it came time to do so they refused and insisted I stay for two more years. They even tried to stop me when I moved into a dorm across the country. Guess my attempt to move as far away as possible worked.

At least they did it "kindly"? My step dad told my mom he'd kick her and my two younger siblings out (with nowhere to live after we'd just moved 400 miles to our new place) if she didn't send me 1200 miles away to Phoenix Arizona (where I ended up being homeless for 6 months after being assaulted & robbed twice the first week I was there)...so stop whining, man up, get a job & become an adult.

66, he does not deserve a family. You should let him be homeless in his old and vulnerable age.

Yeah cause it's so easy to find a full time job that pays enough for rent, food, and transportation right out of highschool. Those kind of jobs are just every where! Yeah right, if only. Get real. In this economy, it's just not feasible. Make your kids go to college or start paying rent when they turn 18, but don't just kick them out. Have some heart, you decided to keep your kids when they were born you signed up for a lifetime job.

Your parents are assholes. This kind of shit is why some other cultures consider Americans to be selfish at times. I'm not saying people should mooch off of their parents, but a person doesn't suddenly become a mature and capable person at 18 unless their parents raised them to be quite self-sufficient their whole life. Most parents treat their teenagers like infants and then expect them to be able to be adults once they turn 18 and that's unrealistic. Given the economy, it's not as if an 18 year-old highschool graduate is going to find any decent work that'd pay for a car, an apartment, and so on. I suggest the OP go to college at least because you'll be moved out and can live on campus via scholarships and/or student loans. You can get a part-time job to pay for other things you need.

Good point about self sufficiency. I was raised to be and I've done the same with my kids.

Likewise. I'm 24 right now and still living with mommy (No daddy. He was an asshole who couldn't be assed to talk to me for 20 years until his mother died.), and I'm unemployed. But I use my physical strength around the house to do the hard work while she does her best with my step-father to work at a hospital. If I ever have kids, I'll be paying it forward. I had them, they're my responsibility. So this is why my parents won't be going to a nursing home - I'll be caring for them personally.

I don't get parents that throw their kids out right at 18. Give them several years notice or so.

well at least they were kind right?

They are just helping you get firmly on your feet. :)

You probably drove them to kick you out.

I don't understand how that even works. Most places put you on a waiting list so where the heck do these kids live until their house or apartment is ready? Or do they stay in a hotel for awhile or something?

From somebody who moved out at 18, I WISH I got one of those rather than the drama I got instead
