****** around, found out
Today, I tried to decorate my coffee table by following a DIY project I found on Pinterest, but I ended up ruining it and now have to buy a new one instead. FML

Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, when I finally got delivered the new kitchen table that I ordered online a week ago, I found out that it was actually a kitchen table for a dollhouse, as I forgot to check the size. FML
Today, I spent two hours building an IKEA bookshelf. When I was finished, I realized it was inside-out. There was no way to fix it without completely taking it apart again. FML
Today, I finally started a DIY home improvement project I'd been putting off for a while now. As I was drilling into the wall, I managed to hit a plumbing pipe that I didn't know was there and started flooded my living room. FML
Today, I was feeling pretty proud of myself for building an Ikea shelf/dresser combo completely by myself. When going to put the last drawer together, I dropped one of the boards. The corner landed perfectly in the middle of my phone screen, shattering it. It's going to cost $230 to fix it. FML
Today, I found out the hard way that you shouldn't try to open a can of paint with a screwdriver. The lid flew off, and my kitchen floor now looks like an abstract art painting, which I could probably call, "Various blue splodges on wood canvas." FML
Today, I tried to save money by buying a generic brand of coffee instead of my usual brand. It tasted terrible and I ended up throwing it away. FML
Today, I spent hours assembling a bookshelf I'd bought online. Once it was finally done, I realized I’d put the back panel on backwards, so now there’s a "Made in China" label facing the room. FML
Today, in an attempt to be frugal, I tried to repair my own sometimes-faulty toaster. Turns out I unplugged the wrong kitchen appliance, which I only discovered by electrocuting myself while pulling it apart. Now it's definitely broken, will need replacing, and I have a burn. FML
Today, I attempted to assemble a piece of furniture that claimed to be "easy to build in minutes." Four hours and multiple arguments later, I realized I had misread the instructions, and half the parts were upside down. I'm pretty sure the furniture won this round. FML
Today, I knocked over and broke one of two very expensive wine bottles. As I was using the mop to clean it up, the handle knocked over and broke the other. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thanks, your FML was submitted, and will appear in the moderation queue soon!

Part of the creative process is to try new things. And sometimes they work, more often they don't. That is how we grow and learn. You should be proud and happy for trying! Keep going! you'll make it!

Congratulations for trying something new to you! The first time is “practice” but if the skill interests or challenges you, you will get better. Don’t give up… I was fortunate that I lived next door to my grandparents and granddad was a good carpenter. It’s a lot easier to learn a hands on skill in person from someone who can teach. Over time I became pretty good at making furniture when it struck my interest. I had to learn furniture finishing myself however by reading and watching TV, but mainly by trial and effort… There will always be some things that aren’t obvious at first about doing a handcraft with instructions from a video, or book, or website. There’s nobody to ask questions of nor notice what you are doing right or wrong. That doesn’t mean you can’t learn new things without an instructor. But it does mean that the first time you try something you will have more problems and the first time won’t likely come out as good as you hoped. Keep at it if it interests you… One thing my granddad told me long ago was that the difference between a good carpenter and a bad carpenter is the good carpenter knows how to fix their mistakes. Keep your eyes open as you go to see when things don’t seem to be working right and make necessary corrections.
