Today, I had to explain to my mom what an 'LGBT ally' is and that it is entirely possible for a straight cis girl to support the LGBT movement. She thought I was a lesbian because I have rainbow colored and LGBT memorabilia. FML
I don’t understand why there are so many YDI. Much of the LGBT+ community (that I know personally) seems to feel very picky about who is allowed to show pride and/or support especially with the rainbows. If a movement wants support and acceptance it needs to accept said support. And before you thumbs down, no, I’m not straight.

could be the mother thought the daughter was LGBT due to the stuff, since either is symbols of the group. and then the daughter not being LGBT makes it confusing. maybe OP sounded defensive explaining it and made it even more confusing. age of the mother could decrease understanding depending on the area she was raised. long story short, OP seems to lean into it heavily for someone who doesn't seem to be LGBT and it makes it confusing.
Have you just experienced an FML moment?
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thanks, your FML was submitted, and will appear in the moderation queue soon!
