CPS!
Today, after an exhausting weekend of work, I decided to take a nap. I was awoken several hours later by my mother-in-law knocking on my door. Apparently my 11-year-old called up grandma to complain that she was hungry and that mum was sleeping instead of cooking dinner. FML

FYL for living close enough to your mother in law that she can knock on your door without buying a plane ticket first.

I knew the concept of responsibility when I was 9! when I was 10 I was ten I was at least able to cook eggs in a couple ways. my mom worked nights and was always exhausted. she still cooked most of the time but on the rare occasions she didn't, I was able to step up. kids today are too over babied. so glad I'm not growing up with this generation

I was making my own meals at 6. Ramen noodles never gets old.

Time to make the 11 year old sorry for being such a manipulative tool I'm sure the kid could have made him/herself a sandwich or something.

Time to teach the 11 year old how to cook a few things. I would also ground her or make her do yard work for calling.

If she doesn't know how to cook, how is it her fault? Her mom should've taught her how to do something. Punishing her for not knowing how to do something..that's stupid

Well she doesn't really need to know how to cook to pour a bowl of cereal or make a simple sandwich.

At 11, the kid should at least be able to make them self some toast and wait for their parents to make lunch when they're ready. FYL, OP.

My daughter is 5 and can make herself toast or a sandwich.

at 11 the kid should know how to do small things like make a sandwich or cereal but if you were that tired and you had a child at home should of brought them to a relatives house so you could get some R&R

Not everyone has someone nearby that they can just dump their kids on because they need a nap. At 11 years old they should be self sufficient enough for mom/dad to lay down for a couple of hours.

You're kidding right? At 11, most kids are allowed to stay home on their own for a few hours, at least, I was. The kid needs to learn to be resourceful. I could make a grilled cheese or quesodilla, microwave quiche, hot pockets, etc by the time I was 9. If the kid hungry and mom is napping, they should make themselves a snack and wait until Mom wakes up for dinner, or if Mom doesnt wake up by dinner time, wake mom up, not call the in laws

Sounds like how my brother was at that age. I would be surprised if he could even wipe his own ass at age 11. My parents babied him too much. He didn't even know how to use a microwave until he was 16. They did everything for him.

That's ridiculous!

Imagine my surprise when I discovered that, at the age of 10, my step daughter still hadn't figured out how to use a table knife. So, we had a few meals together so I could teach her.

It never pays to mess with Noor. She has superpowers you know. Not only can she think about many different things at once, but she can run forever and never tire. She has been running around in my heads for days now, and has yet to even show the slightest hint of tiring.

Better she called grandma rather than 911

Everyone is calling the child a best but we have to remember- children are what we make them! You're not supposed to be wiping their butt after "poo-poo time" when they're 15. If you do everything for your children they won't learn how to do things for themselves. If your child is 11 I see no reason to lie down for an hour or 2.
