Today, after having tried for months to get a promotion at work, I finally had an interview for a higher position. Everything went great, and I was told I would get a call next week for my second interview. I went back to my desk, only to get an email stating they're canceling the position. FML

Today, I interviewed potential employees for a job position that I was supposed to get promoted to. FML
Today, after interviewing for a promotion to a position that was created with me in mind, I eagerly accepted a call from my boss, expecting good news. Turns out, they found a better applicant, who they don't believe will need support from the position I currently hold, so it's being eliminated. FML
Today, my two co-workers got the promotion we were all working for. The reason they got the promotion and not me? My interview got cancelled because of a policy change, implemented that day. FML
Today, I went in for I thought would be an interview for a promotion, but turns out there was no interview set up, and they'd already decided who would be the next manager. FML
Today, I got a call and was offered a position with a company that I really wanted to work for. I just had to wait a week to confirm that everything was good to go. Ten seconds after ending the call, they called back and said that they'd called the wrong person. The offer was for someone else. FML
Today, I got a call from the only company that asked me to come in for an interview of the many applications I submitted. I answered it even though I was at my current job. My boss heard and chewed me out. The call was to cancel the interview since the position was filled. FML
Today, while despairing over having been rejected for my dream job, I received an email asking me to come back in for another interview. Then they called me to say they accidentally sent the email to all the applicants, and that they definitely aren't interested. FML
Today, after finally getting a job offer after months of unemployment, I found out that the person who was going to hire me got fired. Which means I'm not getting the job. FML
Today, I found out I didn't get the promotion I applied for. Then I was told I was the only one who applied for the job. FML
Today, after trying so hard to get myself back on my feet, I had an amazing interview and I was hired on the spot. I was so happy, until I read the position I was given, and it turns out I didn't get full-time, I got barely enough hours to even be part-time. FML

I know how you feel, OP. Before I finally earned the position I'm in now, that happened to me TWICE. Fickle managers piss me off. Either create a position, or don't. You shouldn't dangle an opportunity in front of your employees, just to take it away.

I know how you feel, OP. Before I finally earned the position I'm in now, that happened to me TWICE. Fickle managers piss me off. Either create a position, or don't. You shouldn't dangle an opportunity in front of your employees, just to take it away.

Yeah, that happened at one of my old jobs but they dangled it so you would do more work. So I don't know if I should suggest OP to work normally when positions arrive or what. They might be playing the whole company.

The one thing is you know they said they would call you. It isn't anything to do with you per say just the business didn't need that position open anymore. It could have been a number of scenarios. Nothing against you personally. Don't take it as such OP.

The interview must have been a devil of a job but your probably did a bang up job on it. Maybe they cancelled it because they thought you would lie down on the job. O well make the best of a bad job.

#11 - I had a version of this happen; others were told I had the job before I was offered and accepted it. I had to find the hiring manager to get the story straight. Awkward.

Yeah! I hate when companies fire people! It's not like they give you multiple warnings and chances to explain yourself! It's not like there are laws requiring them to have a legit reason! It's not like you have grounds to sue if you are fired for an illegitimate reason which leads companies to ridiculously accepting of laziness and stupidity! Have you ever tried to fire someone? It can be much harder than you think, even if they are ******* slack and always late. Admittedly this does depend on the size, and even the general atmosphere of the company.
