Today, I'm tired of people pretending that autism is a great thing to have. I don't feel "great" when I'm hardly able to communicate with other people, crushing my independence, and making me unable to seek help. I just want to be normal, to be able to live on my own. I don't want to be a burden anymore. FML

Halloween

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.

I'm not sure that people are saying that autism is great, just trying to make the condition less stigmatized. While I understand that autism is no treat, regardless of where you are on the spectrum, it doesn't mean that your life should be one of misery and assumptions. And it pays to keep in mind that there is no such thing as normal. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly. Everyone has their own definitions of "normal" and they might not line up to your own. People who genuinely care about you are trying to help and understand your condition better in order to help you more efficiently. And you are not, nor have you every been, a burden.
