Assumptions
Today, a guy at work pulled me aside to tell me that I probably shouldn't be working a job where I have to interact with customers, because of my autism. I don't have autism. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I finally got the results of months of extensive psychological testing to determine why I did so well in my course but performed so terribly on the job. Turns out I'm autistic. FML
Today, my whole office is treating me like a pariah because I rejected the new guy who has autism. I have a history of being domestically abused so why should I date a guy who, by his own admission, loses his temper easily and attacks people? That’s right, I shouldn’t. FML
Today, a girl I'd been crushing on for a little while and I were talking about autism. Some of the last words she said were "I try to not find autistic people so fucking annoying, but I can't help it. But can you blame me?” I'm autistic. FML
Today, as always, I wore a pin at work with the rainbow infinity symbol to indicate that I'm autistic. A creepy male customer came in and, thinking it was a gay pride pin, started hitting on me and making inappropriate comments. He just wouldn't stop, no matter how much I tried to explain. The police were called. FML
Today, I got told I am not a good fit for a company because I'm disabled. But that's OK, I can volunteer for the same role, as I don't really need to work anyway, because I'm disabled apparently. FML
Today, I tried to explain autism to my classmates. One of them, a professional cunt who's always looking for an excuse to lecture people, accused me of being "ableist" because my explanations weren't accurate, and said I shouldn't explain things I don't understand. I'm actually autistic. FML
Today, I had to deal with a lady who claimed her son was autistic to try and skip the queue. Even her son was saying he’s not autistic, and she was screaming in his face that yes he was. I happen to be genuinely autistic. Security threw her out, and I was jealous that I didn’t get to do it. FML
Today, while at my friend's house, I noticed her brother had a bit of an accent. I laughingly said "Is it me or does your little brother have an accent?" She stared and replied with "No, he has autism." FML
Today, I asked if my psychiatrist would test me for autism, as I believe I may have it. His response? "You probably don't. Stay off social media once in a while." Well fuck me for wanting a professional opinion I guess. FML
Today, my therapist mentioned we should look into the possibility of me being autistic. When telling my boyfriend what she'd said, he replied, “I don’t think you’re autistic, just damaged.” FML

People need to think before they speak...

That is NOT something you just assume about people. I'm sorry. :(

this probably means that some people should neither speak not think.

That and pregnancy.

The biggest problem I have with this FML is not his awful assumption. It's the fact that even if OP had been autistic it would not have been ok to make that kind of comment. Autism can be a very debilitating condition and if a person effected by this can hold a job and interact with people, they should be encouraged, not ridiculed.

My sister has Asperger's. I would be absolutely furious is someone said that to her, much less me.
jmcr 27
I have Aspergers and that comment pissed me off. I worked at a small Italian restaurant as a phone girl and waitress before becoming a busser at a high en restaurant. It doesnt stop us from interacting with ppl. We just have to learn differently to do it

My P.E teacher had a pregnant belly for 10 months so i finally asked her whens it due and she said she wasnt pregnant :( idk made a mistake

My brother also has Aspergers and people have intact said that to him even with me around. Needless to say I get very angry when people do it. Shows such ignorance.

Certain people would contribute more to society if they never talked. I do of course mean those who assume people have autism.

"Today, a coworker of mine told me I shouldn't deal with customers as I am an asshole, wrongly assuming that they have autism." If only.
gjikvtj 18
How would he not know that for sure?

Yes

just act autistic every time it's just the two of you but normal around everyone else
SoliDSt33L 33
If I may ask, what exactly would this solve? Anyway, I got the feeling that OP's co-worker should be the one not working with people because he seems a little insensitive and judgmental. But if he was a customer, he's just an asshole.

#8 act autistic? isnt that also like making fun of someone for being a certain way? you suck
wolfheartmoon 12
You can't "act autistic" you idiot. Look up what autism is, and you'll see it's a VERY VERY VERY wide range of behaviors.

Should've told him he shouldn't be allowed to interact with people because of his mental disease he clearly has.

Oh you mean Asshole-Jackass Syndrome?
Metagame 12
Or Asshole-Assumer Syndrome, however this is a more specific "subdisease" of Asshole-Jackass Syndrome.
