Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I started chemo. My immune system is so bad, it keeps attacking organs throughout my body. I just got a job I love that pays well and has insurance for once, but I’m not sure I can keep working to pay for it, due to chemo side-effects and risky conditions of the job. FML
Today, after enduring chemo, radiation treatments and several surgeries in order to beat cancer, being immunocompromised and catching Covid, I haven’t been able to work for years. Despite all that, I still get told I’m lazy and need to "just go get a job" when I try to get social security. FML
Today, I had to quit my dream job, due to an injury I received at work over two months ago not fully healing. Not only do I really need the money, I’ll never find something I love doing so much, or a better group of coworkers. FML
Today, I got turned down for my dream job. Why? Because my ex phoned the company and told them how bad I would be for the job. He phoned me and said, "Now you know how it feels to be turned down." We dated for 2 weeks, 11 years ago. I'm now married and haven't spoken to him since we broke up, so I guess he's been stalking me. FML
Today, I had an offer for a job, and was going to receive the offer letter… only if I would postpone my oncologist appointments. FML
Today, after finally getting a job offer after months of unemployment, I found out that the person who was going to hire me got fired. Which means I'm not getting the job. FML
Today, I got demoted at work and had a pay cut taken, all because I got sick from cancer and haven't recovered well enough to do every task. We are not short staffed. FML
Today, after being diagnosed with breast cancer, enduring months of tortuous chemo, having painful radiation treatments and having had my tubes tied, I realized I’ve become the butt of an incredibly cruel cosmic joke. I got pregnant from the one-night stand I had to celebrate beating cancer. FML
Today, after three interviews, I accepted an offer for my dream job and submitted my notice. The company called me to say they couldn't contact my referees and have now withdrawn the offer. I'm now officially unemployed. FML
Today, I told my boyfriend about how a few years ago I had cancer, and how I underwent radiation therapy. His response? "Did you glow in the dark?" FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?

What an extraordinarily awful person. You deserve so much better than that.

Oh my god. What a ******* ass. I'm so sorry, OP. I hope you get another job doing what you love!

Imagine someone like that being your boss, OP. Everything happens for a reason, **** him and **** his job.
Brandi_Faith 34
I assumed he was already his boss and that this was a promotion or relocation to a different division. I could totally be wrong, but there is a chance that he is already op's boss.

Lawsuit?
Brandi_Faith 34
I'm not sure, but wouldn't this be some sort of verbal contract? I don't think they hold much weight but a lawyer may be able to make it hold. Op could at least talk to a lawyer and see what they thought (if he wanted to deal with all that).

oral contracts are valid, especially with a witness.

Good thing you proved him wrong. :)

That's one of the most heartless things to ever say to anyone!

What the **** was the job?!

Sorry to hear that OP, and congrats on beating cancer. Just playing devil's advocate here though, perhaps the position has been filled by another qualified candidate while you were dealing with your health issues? Request the company retain your resume on file, and follow up regularly. In the meantime, look around. There are other dream jobs out there.

His loss, your gain hun. You have been through so much, you're better off not working for someone as horrible as that. Karma will get him.

This is probably not going to be popular, but I'd like to say something different than 'what a terrible person'. Maybe it's not nice what he did, but he did give you something to look forward to for years, if it really was your dream job it was something to fight for. Should he really have said 'no you're not suitable' from the start?
amberv61 22
Yes he should have told op that job was not for them because that is the professional thing to do. Do not offer a job to anyone if you have no intentions of actually letting them have that job

OP was already fighting for their life. I don't think there would be room to fight for your dream job while going through crazy treatments.
bass_ftp 12
Obviously it was not about fighting for his dream job itself but fighting for his life and having just a bit more to look forward to.

what a prick...people can be so awful, and what is worse is how indifferent they are about it.
