Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I woke up completely deaf, for no reason. My doctor told me my hearing loss, "could possibly be permanent." I’m a composer. FML
Today, after months of daily migraines and doctor's visits, I've now been told that my "temporary" hearing loss has nothing to do with my migraines, nor is it temporary at all. FML
Today, my excruciating ear pain turned out to be a bastard maggot eating away at all the vital things behind my eardrum. The doctor pulled it out, but I’m now permanently deaf in that ear and can’t balance. I fall if I try to stand or walk further than 5 feet. FML
Today, according to my doctors, the car crash I was in has damaged the part of my brain responsible for balance and coordination, which is why no matter if I'm standing, sitting, or lying down, I feel dizzy as fuck. Unless by some miracle my brain can fix itself, this might be a lifelong condition. I want to cry. FML
Today, I've been diagnosed with an incurable condition in both eyes that is making me go blind. I lost my job and had to drop out of my final year in college because of this. Then my ex found out and stole my car since I "won't need it". FML
Today, my doctor told me that the intense, non stop ringing in my ears, which started suddenly at the beginning of the year, has no cure, no treatment options, and I just need to learn to live with it. I have severe auditory sensory issues, and have barely been getting by. I don't know what to do. FML
Today, after telling my boss about my hearing problem, she simply told me to "listen harder". FML
Today, I was in the emergency room. The doctor told me that my injuries and back problems are the intensity of those after a car accident. I slipped on a grape. FML
Today, my right ear drum ruptured. My family doesn't understand that I only lost hearing in one ear and continues to talk about me behind my back, thinking I can't hear them. FML
Today, like every day since birth, I have a sensory processing disorder that stops me hearing things properly. It's worse with accents. I live in the Southwest and I can't understand anyone's spanish accent. I'm not racist, I swear; I'm just disabled. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thanks, your FML was submitted, and will appear in the moderation queue soon!

You know the old saying that goes something like I felt bad for the boy who had no shoes until I met another boy who had no feet? Well just to make you feel better I can tell you that I’m an Orthopedic Surgeon who had a stroke soon after I graduated. My whole right side is paralyzed. So I can never be a Surgeon. I still have to pay back my college loans. This probably should’ve been a separate FML. Those loans will never be paid back.

OP, communicate with an attorney. You may have a significant claim for insurance or whoever was liable for the accident.

Depending on damage done to inside the ear, hearing aids might be comepletely useless..

cochlear implants might be the solution, but I'm no doctor.

that's awful and disappointing, but there are still areas your services are badly needed. you just need to change trajectory slightly.

Agreed, I can here to say that long term impairments that impact your ability to work definitely are something that insurance should be liable for, depending on limits and whether it was your fault or their.

Get certified in sign language and add that to your degree.

Yes, and you can still translate documents.

can't you go back and redo your residency? as a recent grad should be able to re apply and get a 6 figure job within 2-6 years depending on the specialty.

as most said, claim damages. That aside, you can still look into jobs translating scripts/documents and into learn sign language. It sure messed up your plans, but you can pivot and still make something much better then most people out there.

You can still translate documents (into your mother tongue). You can do this!!!!!

Written translations pay money. You still have a career, just a really different one. That said...pursue damages.
