Today, I don't have to set my alarm. I don't have to be anywhere. I can stay up late. But I'm a creature of habit and routine, and having an off day frightens me. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I'm so lazy, I dread getting up early on days that haven't arrived yet. For stuff I actually like doing, too. FML
Today, after struggling to get up on time all week at 5 a.m., it's finally my day off, and boom, I'm up exactly at 5 a.m., naturally. No alarm, no struggle. FML
Today, I set my alarm for AM instead of PM. Woke up at 5AM to realize I have nothing to do. FML
Today, I set an alarm labeled "DO NOT BE LATE." When it went off, I turned it off, congratulated myself for being responsible, and promptly went back to sleep. I woke up two hours later. FML
Today, I'm on holiday, but my alarm clock isn't. It rang at 6 o'clock. FML
Today, I went to bed early, feeling responsible. At 2 a.m., I woke up in a panic because I forgot to set my alarm. While fixing it, I actually turned it off completely. I overslept, missed work, and proved once again that I should never trust myself. FML
Today, I set ten alarms for an important appointment and still woke up convinced I’d missed it. I spent the morning panicking for no reason and showed up looking exactly how I felt. FML
Today, my phone alarm didn't go off this morning. Furious, I spent ten minutes complaining about technology before realizing I'd carefully set the alarm for 7:00 PM instead of 7:00 AM. The technology was actually innocent for once. FML
Today, I set practically ten alarms because I absolutely could not oversleep for an important appointment. I woke up two hours early, panicked that I'd missed it, and couldn't fall back asleep. I spent the entire appointment looking like I hadn't slept at all. FML
Today, I fully intended to start going to the gym so I set my alarm an hour early so I could go before work and get it over with. Alas, when the alarm went off and I saw that horrible "5 a.m." on my phone, my brain put me straight back to sleep without my consent. I ended up being late for work. FML

I think both you and Grizz are too obsessed with work and you both need to find a way to only be there in your head when your being paid to be at work

habits are hard to break. and some people, myself included, can have problems when they break routine too much. my routines help keep me on track and make remembering things easier even outside of work. but I would agree if the issue is worries about work then yeah people need to take a step back.

this is every vacation week for me. I don't want to break my routine times. I find the thing that helps is not changing my alarms. I wake up at 430am, but I don't go to bed until I am almost falling asleep. Sounds odd, but being able to turn the alarm off and roll back over is great. and if I'm tired on vacation who cares. it also means I don't risk not turning it back or getting used to sleeping through it. it isneasoer to decide not to get up when the alarm goes off than it is for me to simply not have an alarm set.
