Today, I was called a "Potato" for at least the 30th time by people online for living in Idaho. I've lived here my whole life, I have yet to see a potato farm. None of these people has even left the East Coast. FML

Don't worry OP, I'm sure you'd be a sweet potato. All corniness aside, don't take it too seriously, those people are living in ignorance.

I bet your last name is Russet. There is no point trying to hide your identity, we already know what you are.

It could be worse. When you're from Florida, you can get called some pretty creative things. Unfortunately, stereotypes never die, so embrace them. Make them a joke.

I'm from Ohio and have been called some interesting nicknames. My personal favorite is the nickname a college friend gave me. After learning I was from Ohio, he asked me, "What the **** is a Buckeye? It sounds like a euphemism for deer penis." Since then, he has always referred to me as Buckdick. People also call me Hitler all the time because of my birthday, but that's another issue

I've been getting that treatment my whole life, the only time you ever see anything about Idaho is that potato truck commercial I did get time off school when I was a kid to go pick potatoes do they still do that?

They do, but I believe they were thinking of taking away that break due to kids not working on the harvest as much anymore and more of them just thinking it was a free vacation.

I've had someone ask me if it's cold after I mentioned I live in Maine. Yes, it's totally freezing. In July.

Idaho is a beautiful state. not as beautiful as Melanie though

Yeah. hmm. not sure where Idaho potato comes from but I've heard people say that. Maybe a brand or type of potato that doesn't necessarily come from Idaho? FYL

most of the potato farms are in the southeastern part of the state. I am from North Idaho myself, so I don't ever see potato farms

I hate that whenever I go out of state and tell people that im from idaho they always asked if I grew up on a farm. Im from the city!!

I live in Idaho too. I'm in Challis, a small town you have to drive through the middle of nowhere to get to. We're surrounded by potato farms here. Though, Challis is more eastern so it probably depends on where in the state you live.
