I have a southern accent I don't think it makes you sound like a retard. it's just how everybody in that region sounds. It's not that bad and I didn't even know I had one until I went on vacation. Not an FML but close enough.

Im southern (uk) very well spoken.. maybe he wanted to sound superior. Ha so anyway its likely that he did it for a joke and you expressed some sort of affection for it so he kept it up for you. I think thats kinda nice. I can think of worse things for a guy to lie to you about other than his accident. FYL for being so damn picky...
