Today, I emailed the guy I like to ask him on a coffee date. He responded, declining by telling me he never drinks coffee. We met at Starbucks. FML

Masterful gambit
Today, a cute guy asked me out for coffee. I like him but didn't want it to be easy, so I said, "Coffee dates are for broke bums, aim a little higher." He said, "Aight I will, peace out" and walked off. FML
What just happened?

Smooth
Today, I went on a coffee date with the man I've been in love with for a while. Before I knew what was going on, he'd started chatting up a pretty girl sitting nearby. I had to drink my coffee alone while he got her number. FML
The date from hell #5676
Today, I went on an a date with a guy I met online. We were waiting in line at Starbucks when he turned to me and said, "Do you want anything?" Just before I was about to answer, he practically shoved in front of me and paid for himself. The cashier looked more horrified than I did. FML

Today, I went to a coffee shop to meet an online date. I couldn't spot him, so he eventually came up and introduced himself. It seems his on-line picture must have been taken before I was born. I spluttered "This isn't going to work," and promptly scuttled out. FML

Starbucks don't just sell coffee! Besides; asking via e-mail . . . At least a phone call? That's just me anyway. I don't think it's a FYL but not quite a YDI either . . .

I think the term "coffee date" is just used to mean "go out for drinks" or "go to a cafe"..I could be wrong but yeah, it's a more modern way of asking people out.

Same. I always get tea. I can't stand coffee but I love Starbucks. But perhaps this was an excuse to say no to OP...

Whether or not he actually drinks coffee, the point is he doesn't want to go on a date with you.

I think that you guys are kind of missing the point...When she asked him on a coffee date, she wasn't saying that he had to drink coffee, she was basically saying, "Hey we should go to Starbucks." And he said no, either because he doesn't want to go with her, or because he doesn't remember that he met her at Starbucks.

When a guy drops the girl at her place after a date and the girl asks "do you want to come up for coffee?". OBVIOUSLY it's not for coffee. It's so the guy can gigoogity her gishmoigen. does it make more sense now ?

Maybe he didn't give her his number, hence the fact why she's emailing him.
