"Undergraduate accountant." Translation: not an accountant, but in school to be one. Not impressive.
Exactly. "Undergraduate accountant" means undergraduate accounting major. The receptionist probably has a degree already, or years of work experience, which would be why you make less. And if you're an undergraduate, I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you're doing Work-Study for your school. Those positions almost always pay min. wage.
"Aah.. Yeah. It's just we're putting new coversheets on all the TPS reports before they go out now. So if you could go ahead and try to remember to do that from now on, that'd be great. All right"
Haha nice. Mhhh yea, about those...
How Lumbergh talks gets me on my nerves.

I second that!!! So annoying! But decent movie though!
Time to look for another job. Sorry this happened to you :(
you lost the money but gained shame.
The new receptionist obviously has better qualifications, and by "better qualifications," I mean "bigger tits."
Don't think of a boob job as cosmetic surgery, think of it as an investment in your future.
What if OPs a man? Still recommend the boob job? There ARE folks into chicks with dicks.. :]
It is change I believe in.
mercy, ESPECIALLY if the OP is a man! The folks who like chicks with dicks preferr big-titted chicks with dicks over itty-bitty titty chicks with dicks.
Or so I've heard.
S'pose you're right, but why can't we have both? Big tits and big dicks? Best of both worlds.. erm
or so I've heard.. we need this package in our new Healthcare Package!
My post disappeared. It must have been too gross for FML.
Oh, well, BOW-CHICKA-BOING! :D
Then in a professional manner discuss being given a big raise.
(Sorry if it's a repeat. This first version appears to have been eaten.)
Y'know, in countries like Australia that speak a more British English, they call a pay increase a "rise."
I'm sure your boss will be happy about discussing the giving of a big rise. The first point of negotiation will be who will do the giving. *fade in bad porn jazz*
ask for a raise and quit bitching
If you get no benefits as the receptionist, but you get benefits as an accountant, you have to balance those as well.
If you have full benefits in an accountant position, expect to make a little less. Especially since receptionists I know don't get benefits, so they get a bit of a salary buff to pay for their own health insurance and what nots.
This is why a career as a profesional wrestler sounds better and better every day...
You should do it! Can see it now: The PUNmolisher. PUNutilator.. PUNmmeller..
..erm. Mebbe not. sorree ]:
How did you miss The PUNisher?
I thought that one was taken by the Marvel Comics character. I don't think he shares ]:
Course then again, what I know about wrestling is pretty much limited to that Mickey Rourke movie :/
Which means the hole up with strippers and die onstage. ouch
The Rock's gonna take this pun, shine up reeeeaaal good, turn your monkey ass around and stick it straight up your candy ass!
Ooh dwayne'been misbehavin! Wait.. Wat? which one? The monkey one or the candy one? :D
Lol, how did I know that'd be misinterpreted.
The Rock used to say he'd shove his boot up your candy ass. And then he'd follow up by calling the person a jabroni. I mean, you just can't say that stuff when you're a customer service representative.
My comment disappeared. I lie wait in shrugs to see if it comes back.. _________ Candy! :D
An undergraduate accountant? As in you haven't graduated yet? Well that sounds like a long internship to me and it isn't uncommon for someone in that position to get paid less than someone who is working full time and isn't in school. As others have said, you can politely ask for a raise and hope they aren't just using you for cheap labor and that they actually think you do a good job.
Ask for a raise and if it's justified you'll probably get it
Or, you can just sleep with the boss like the new receptionist is probably doing ;)

It sucks, but it's none of your business what another employee is making. You don't know what qualifications this other person has or if they have additional responsibilities that you did not have when you were a receptionist. Grow up.
Three words: Fair Work Act.
Are you on an AWA by any chance? That could be the cause of the difference in wage. AWA's tend to screw had working Aussies over.
Under the FWA you have the right to bargain with your employer, you know that right?
As a recently qualified Chartered Accountant with ICAA (google is your friend for those that want to ask what/who that is) I can tell you from experience that:
1 - Undergraduate/graduate accountants are paid sweet fuck all and yes they are paid less than receptionists.
2 - You are paid virtually nothing because you know virtually nothing.
3 - You can demand more pay but they will expect you to charge out more in fees. The "normal" ratio is that you have to bill out around 3.5 times your salary. "You want 1k a week before taxes, well bill out 3.5k a week then biatch" is what you can expect to hear from the partners.
My advice - Try stick it out for about two years and you will find that you start to earn more. In two years I went from 29k -> 32k and after the third it jumped to 44k plus super and bonuses.
So finish your studies, get some experience (experience as admin =/= experience as accountant so your prior 2 years count for bugger all) and quit whining. If you want the (long term) gain then you gotta take the (short term) pain.

Reminds me of my sister. She has been working at her workplace for 4 years. She has accumulated raises making her wage $2.50 more than when she started. People being hired right now (with no experience) are getting the same wage as she is.
I'm there too, I get paid less then the admin person who does the filing as well. I was happy with my pay till I found out.
I've finished uni and have been working for a year now, and have passed PCE1 now, wish I could fast forward my pay review.
sucker. I make 4$ an hour more than the receptionist at my work.....
she spent 2 years in college and I received on the job training for mid level accountant.
Sounds like the new receptionist sucks........maybe you should!
LOL I hate admin people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
