Man or woman?

Today, my best friend and I both applied for the same job. I was applying because my family is REALLY tight on cash, and I need the money. He applied because I told him about the job and we thought it would be fun working together. He was hired on the spot. I was denied the job. FML

I agree, your life sucks (19592) - you totally deserved it (3366)

If there is ONE open job it's pretty stupid to think you can both have it...

#1 - On 11/01/2009 at 10:16am by bittersweets

well obviously the friend isnt that bright =p

#2 - On 11/01/2009 at 10:17am by tko

The OP said 'We thought it would be fun working together.' Evidentally, neither of them are that bright.

#18 - On 11/01/2009 at 1:33pm by lmaoatyourlife

XD i missed that =p
lol yea, deffinitely a little dim

#19 - On 11/01/2009 at 1:40pm by tko

Who said anything about there being "one job open"? I'm guessing that the OP applied first, they were impressed with the friend, they were not impressed with the OP. Even if the friend hadn't applied there is no guarantee the OP would have gotten the job since they were not impressed with the OP.

#29 - On 11/01/2009 at 4:47pm by youreanidiot

i agree

#34 - On 11/01/2009 at 7:56pm by jle234

Are you guys stupid? How could you think you'd be working together if you apply for one and the same job? Especially you are to blame for not convincing your "competitor" to not apply or lay down after he got the job. So, YDI.

#4 - On 11/01/2009 at 10:27am by bugmenotmofo

cool

#5 - On 11/01/2009 at 10:29am by atvarela

Shark! He really does sound more qualified for this line of work, whatever line that may be..

#6 - On 11/01/2009 at 10:33am by mercyFML

That's why I don't tell my friends about my ideas until after I've done them or I am in the process of doing them. You may never know who might want a piece of your success.

#7 - On 11/01/2009 at 10:34am by engendrita

O.o
Lol.
Same thing happened to my sister's boyfriend.
Tough luck man.
Sorry.

#8 - On 11/01/2009 at 10:44am by DemonicAngel151

They could smell your stink of desperation and thought you might end up stealing from them. Your friend seemed cool, and therefore, trustworthy.

Desperation is not a good vibe to put out when looking for a job, or a date, for that matter.

#9 - On 11/01/2009 at 10:49am by perdix

FYL. I'm sorry. :(

#10 - On 11/01/2009 at 10:52am by boatkicker

Just be happy for your friend. If you were denied the job it's not likely that you'd get it anyway - unless no one else applied.

#11 - On 11/01/2009 at 10:55am by alvar

oh

#12 - On 11/01/2009 at 11:39am by Gandalf_Baggins

Avoid group job hunting. It never works

#13 - On 11/01/2009 at 12:22pm by mm02

That was really stupid of you. You provided more competition for yourself. How can there be more FYL than YDI?

#14 - On 11/01/2009 at 1:00pm by lmmmr

You really need this job because you're tight on cash, and your solution is to tell you best friend about it so that he can prove he's better at this job than you are...are you surprised that you did not get hired?

#42 - On 11/05/2009 at 8:29am by Rayn4u

these FMLS keep getting lamer and lamer.

#15 - On 11/01/2009 at 1:09pm by stupiddumbblonde

Then stop reading them.

#16 - On 11/01/2009 at 1:27pm by Person1233

agreed with #15

#21 - On 11/01/2009 at 1:53pm by nazooer

It seems like they would have hired only one person anyway... so that was a bit silly of your friend
And you probz wouldn't have got the job anyway, maybe you weren't what they were looking for

#17 - On 11/01/2009 at 1:32pm by Lisa89

YDI, dumbass.

#20 - On 11/01/2009 at 1:52pm by xd0rkiee

I know how that feels. I been looking for work for a year now and finally someone was interested in hiring me....my ex-boss stole my job opportunity from me because she was more qualified than me. I quit my job a year ago because she was a controlling bitch who wanted to yell at me for so much as breathing the wrong way when I worked with her. She got fired two weeks ago because of repeated customer complains for her attitude.

Apparently someone doesn't do background checks.

And hiring season is over....I have to try again in 6 months.

#22 - On 11/01/2009 at 2:02pm by Luckster

NEVER bring your own competition, there's enough out there already... moron. YDI.

#23 - On 11/01/2009 at 2:11pm by DieterDerBlau

@#22, "my ex-boss stole my job opportunity from me because she was more qualified than me."

STOLE because she was better qualified?? Something about that doesn't sound right... Did she know you were aiming for that job and then swooped in to steal it from you? Or are you just whining because she got the job and you didn't?

How were you breathing anyway??? Maybe you were mouth-breathing and getting spit all over stuff... I'd yell at you for that...

Not sure I'd want to work for a company that'll let a position sit open for half a year... seems stupid. Then again, most things in your world seem stupid to me.

#24 - On 11/01/2009 at 2:17pm by DieterDerBlau

She follows me on Twitter. She saw I was excited that a certain company was finally going to hire me and, yes, swooped in and took it from me.

And I breath perfectly fine. I was just saying that she found any and every reason to bitch about me when I was working with her, yet found no legal reason to fire me, so eventually I quit because I couldn't stand her. It was like working with a 5-year-old spoiled rotten child in a 35-year-old's body. You can stand it at first, but everyone's got a breaking point.

Why do you assume I was the one in the wrong anyways?

#25 - On 11/01/2009 at 2:21pm by Luckster

aww poor OP. u must have been the ugly one out of u and your friend.

#26 - On 11/01/2009 at 2:31pm by misspeg

Fail.

#27 - On 11/01/2009 at 2:49pm by arielhoee

Way to go, genius.

#28 - On 11/01/2009 at 3:05pm by blastvortex

Well maybe they wouldn't have hired you anyway. But if it was only one open spot, then YDI.

#30 - On 11/01/2009 at 4:52pm by begeru

I'm sorry but never tell a friend about a sweet job going, number one that's just asking for it and number two you'll never both get it unless you know the manager. or unless one if you starts there and then recommends the other. you're an idiot.

#31 - On 11/01/2009 at 5:25pm by kile88

Sorry, let me clarify. There was a business opening up in our area, so there were many openings up for the jobs. We wanted to both get jobs there. They did group interviews then passed the ones they liked onto the next one. We were in the same group interview and he made it past. I wouldn't be stupid enough to tell him about a single job that was available, but I was stupid enough to think we would both be hired :P but I went job hunting afterwards and one of the places is interested and it's a better overall job so it's not an FML anymore

#32 - On 11/01/2009 at 6:05pm by jamminguitarist

They are going to hire whoever is more competent. They don't have to compensate for your problems.

#33 - On 11/01/2009 at 6:05pm by Tubasaurus

good for you man :)

#36 - On 11/01/2009 at 9:35pm by kile88

I know this sounds selfish and ruthless, but, in this state of economy, advertising job openings to your friends isn't very wise.

#37 - On 11/01/2009 at 10:33pm by ilMOCHA

Since it's unlikely he "took your spot", don't blame your friend for being unable to get the job on your own strengths.

#38 - On 11/01/2009 at 11:02pm by MouseyN

That sucks I know how you feel about your fam being tight on cash, but just be happy for your friend. =)
KEEP JOB HUNTING LOL!

#39 - On 11/02/2009 at 12:25am by fcukb0o

Well, not everyone is cut out to be a gay pornstar. On the bright side, the two of you can still "work together" on your own time.

#40 - On 11/02/2009 at 2:12am by Ninjaface

haha this happened to me and my best friend. but i got the job. she was denied the job before i ever applied.

#41 - On 11/05/2009 at 1:50am by miserycompany

never apply for the same job as a friend! my friend and i did, he kept assuming he would get it over me, drove me mad... neither of us got it but he seemed to forget i even had an interview. lol, doesn't end well.
