Today, I found out that my parents are 28,000 dollars in debt and that my bank account has $27.17 in it. They took my money to help pay their debt. FML

Ouch... How did they gain access to your money though?

First off, the OP never said that they took 28,000 out of his bank account, so it's possible they didn't have that much.. age isn't really important in this equation either way. Yes, minors are capable of having a lot of money, and if they worked for it, it is still their own, and not their parent's money. It is also possible that when they were a minor, they needed their parent to set up an account for them, and that they are no longer a minor. In this case, the parent could easily get into the account. It's not like it would be hard to get information on your own kid. Maybe they even stole a check, forged his signature, and then cashed it.
I have a friend who has had this happen to him. He was 23 at the time and his parents had no ties to his bank account in any way. It's not that hard.

I'd say sue them, but it would be kinda hard to afford a lawyer with only $27. Good luck =\
