Gimme my stuff

Today, I learned that last week, the UPS man gave my package to my neighbor for safekeeping. It was over five-hundred dollars' worth of merchandise. My neighbor left for Canada on Saturday. FML

Maybe they're the type of people who leave spare keys? Or you could call them and ask if they had someone house sit who could let you in?

Well hopefully they will give it back OP; assuming they're coming back.

Patience is virtue. But unfortunately your UPS person is an idiot. So your patience is wearing thin.

OP will probably end up breaking down the door >=D

Actually the UPS man is not an idiot. Usually if a package is very valuable they will put it on your back porch or give it to a neighbor. That is unless you choose otherwise. (Assuming you made an online purchase)

20- I agree with what you're saying, I just... I just hate the phrase you used so much. I'm not sure why, but I feel like if I heard somebody say that in real life I would just look at them and then leave the room.

47- Actually if the package is very valuable, they should hold it at a local office and either attempt delivery again, or have the receiver pick it up with some sort of identification. At least that's what I've had to do when I wasn't home to accept a delivery.

I thought they just returned it to the post office and put a note in your mail box to inform you they were holding a package. That's what the UPS usually does to my packages if I'm not home. I'd be VERY pissed off if he/she just dumped it at a neighbors house or left it on my doorstep.

Right 67 that's what they do to me when I'm not home. That UPS man should've just left it in the office. Why your neighbor though? Not everyone is friends with their neighbor or can trust them.

69, why on earth would the UPS guy bring it to the post office? or leave anything on/in the mailbox? what's next? if I don't answer the door for the pizza hut guy, is he gonna bring it to papa johns?

82 - Would you rather them give your pizza to your neighbors for safe keeping? Same logic.

patacus 14

82, the point I was trying to make is that UPS is no way, what so ever connected to the post office. They are completely different companies. (and yet 69 said that ups has left his packages at the post office) thought that was kind of obvious.

Maybe they're the type of people who leave spare keys? Or you could call them and ask if they had someone house sit who could let you in?

I live in Canada. OP , you need some help? :D

Are you stupid?! They obviously opened the package, saw what was inside and took off somewhere far far away where the OP couldn't get their merchandise back. Doesn't take a genius to figure that one out, Jesus Christ. The stupidity on this site....

Wow... Harsh, someones having a bad day. I'm pretty sure FML is open to interpretation, so thanks for sharing.

It was only $500 worth of merchandise. Leaving for Canada for a little while (they didn't move) wouldn't make much sense and be more trouble than it's worth, 65.

I'm pretty sure left for Canada meant moved. Otherwise this would have been an "oh darn, I have to wait a while to get my package" instead of a complete life-fuckery.

Actually from the sound of it...I think someone might have posed as his neighbor and stole the package. And yes, even though it may be normal practice to give it to a neighbor, it's only informal, so UPS would still be liable for the package.

Well hopefully they will give it back OP; assuming they're coming back.

I hope they are not one of those people who claimed they would move to Canada if Obama wins ...

*moves to Canada *asshole neighbers move in *OP cries herself to sleep for the next few nights.

Considering we have universal health care, legal abortion, legal gay marriage, and welfare? That Wouk suck for them. But at least bc made a law that we are not taking any us immigrants due to the election.

I considered relocating if Obummer was reelected... Then I remembered that everywhere else is either a shit hole or run by an even more left wing government. :(

Btw, 53, the US has welfare and legal abortion too. Just FYI.

Just get to know the UPS guy, and let him keep it for you.

I work for UPS, I don't have the same route everyday. I'll see the same person again every two to three weeks.

That's better than not getting it.....period.

My fiancé, uncle and father all work for UPS and have made it clear to me in the past that it is against federal law to withhold packages without written consent to the company; probably to avoid lawsuits and such.

Oh. Dang it. I thought it was a good idea.

Yeah, definitely just realized the neighbor probably wouldn't have the package with them.

Pfft so? Road trip anyways to keep their mind off it! :D

Sorry this is off topic, but- I love your photo!! Patriots? :) haha maybe not, but I love it anyway!

I'm interested in how you found this out. Did the UPS guy leave a note did your neighbors call you? I don't think it was the latter, since as you included the price of merchandise, it's implied that your neighbors moved permanently and took your stuff with them. I have a lot of questions for you, dear OP.

I think you can call UPS to verify who signed for the package, so that's probably how OP found out. Hopefully the neighbor didn't move, since OP just said they "left" instead of "they moved to".

Over here, they put a note in your mailbox to notify you :)

Yep, where I live in Canada they just stick a delivery notice to your door and keep coming back for 3 days till you're there to answer. Otherwise you pick it up yourself c:

I see your neighbor went the whole nine yards.

Accidentally thumbed you up, so BAD COMMENT 8.

oj101 33

It was a pun. 'The Whole 9 Yards

8 was being sarcastic as to notifying OP. i thought it was funny at least.

oj101 33

is a movie based in Canada, and revolved around the theme of neighborliness. I didn't expect too many people to get it, but now you know. It just seemed really relevant so I put it in. Not all of us comment for 'thumbs up'. How sad. I gave you a thumbs up out of pity, seeing as you were desperate.

Why do you insist on notifying number 8 that you thumbed him/her up "by mistake." Perhaps, and just making a wild assumption here, he/she doesn't care.

I guess your just going to have to break in and steal your stuff back.

Only to find out they took the package with them...

Ninja mode activated. Sneak into your neighbors house and get your stuff.

I used to deliver for UPS; if you know you're getting such a package and you're not a regular you need to leave a note with instructions on your door and with the shipper. I rarely order when I do I leave a note to leave it at the deli across the street. If your neighbor steals it UPS will refund you.
