Today, I was awoken at 1:30am by a strange noise, and something tugging on my hair. I opened my eyes, to find a very large rat sitting on my pillow, chewing my hair. FML

It's bugging me how many people are saying YDI because they think that OP's house is dirty.
My best friend lives really close to loading docks and every winter she has two or three rats find a way into her garage or house. Her house is spotless.. she gets up at 4am every day so she can clean, whether it needs to be done or not.

(-1)I don't see how this is in any way cute, to have a filthy disease-ridden wild animal chewing on your hair when you're sleeping. That's actually pretty scary stuff. At least it was just the hair though, and not the skin.
(0)to me its not an fyl or a ydi, i think its cute and adorable, and idc if its wild or not, if it was wild, id try to keep it, i love animals of all sorts, naked mole rats for example, they are truly cutie pies.

I am surprised at the amount of people here with no knowledge about rats. They do not live somewhere just because it is dirty. They are attracted to fresh food and often times eat their way into people's cabinets or storage area because they can smell that there is food inside. Also, as mentioned before, they will live anywhere that they can find warmth when the colder seasons come.

(+1)Rats are more surprising than you think. They are very good climbers. I dated a girl in college who had some pet rats, she complained that one of them would get out of the cage at night (by opening it himself, she gave up after trying about 5 different kinds of locks) and get into her bed and nibble her toes. It's weird, but easily possible.
