Man or woman?

Today, my little brother got mad at me, so he colored the entire screen of my new iPod Touch with a black sharpie. FML

little bit of nail polish remover on a cotton ball repeatedly over and over, to not ruin the insides of ur ipod

lmao, thats pretty evil.
but yea, i think nail polish remover works

nail polish does work if you do it over and over again
my cousin did the same thing as a April fools joke...
i beat the crap out of him, that was my joke back
hahahaha...

i think u should just draw on it and make it look like it did before :D

(-1)

Nail polish? Hell, just use some alcohol!

#56 - On 12/16/2009 at 8:47pm by fawfulster

(+1)

yup, rubbing alcohol works like a charm. i often buy used CD's from Half Priced Books and they generally have a number written on the jewel case written in permanent marker and I can always get it off with rubbing alcohol.

I've used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser in the past to clean things like that. Dry, of course. But it really does work amazingly well on fragile electronics.

#81 - On 12/16/2009 at 10:49pm by Jules

(0)

Yeah, alcohol, nail polish remover, and dry erase markers are your best bet. I bring an EXPO to every install, in case i need to un-graffiti a fire alarm strobe(just ink the surface, let it dry, and wipe it off with a paper towel, or your finger.)

Lol I agree
re-coloring ftw

#90 - On 12/16/2009 at 11:27pm by euphorickid

I'm not sure I would use something like a magic eraser because it works a lot more like a very fine sandpaper than a sponge. Stick with a gentle cloth/cotton ball and alcohol/polish remover.

no nail polish, if you use an ereasable marker over the sharpie it will wipe off easy. I'm one of nine kids. I know how to get stuff out.

An alcohol- or acetone-based cleaner should take the marker right off. If it doesn't, try Windex.

Do I sense a pattern here? "Something happened which involved something valuable covered in permanent marker perhaps in an embarrassing drawing. FML" and 100 comments pointing out that permanent marker is soluble in many weak nonpolar solvents.

this is a fail FML. there are many ways to get perm marker off. goo gone, nail polish remover, some good glass cleaner, carburetor/brake cleaner and muratic acid works the best _>

#24 - On 12/16/2009 at 7:54pm by daytona81

tell your parents. Hopefully they will beat his ass, if not pin him down and color his entire face black with a black marker.

yep ^ = full of win. you care about your ipod. i'd assume he cares about his face. even trade.

#126 - On 12/17/2009 at 8:26am by flylikezebra

(0)

lots of things can remove permanent marker, but most cleaning chemicals will damage an ipod touch screen. Example: my lil brother tried to clean his with windex and it left permanent streaks in it.

#28 - On 12/16/2009 at 8:02pm by skyeyez9

(0)

I've never owned an iPod Touch, so I don't know what it's made out of, but if it's plastic, don't use regular nail polish remover. It'll melt the plastic. If you decide to try nail polish remover, make SURE you get the NON ACETONE stuff. Good luck, I hope you can fix it!

#29 - On 12/16/2009 at 8:02pm by Kharma25

(0)

and the FML is?? Goof Off, Goo-Gone, so many products get permanent marker off glass. No big deal here

fyl and-yup not permanent there are some home remedies to fix that screen like rubbing alcohol

What the hell? Skip all this crazy stuff like Axe and insect repellent. Just use any strong solvent such as rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover (as an earlier poster recommended) and you'll be fine. Then you won't have to worry about your electronics smelling like a douchebag or a summer camp.

even though a lot of these people have good ideas to get the permanent marker off u have to remember that its touchscreen and u dont want to enternally ruin it as well so i would suggest calling the ipod customer service or looking it up.

#52 - On 12/16/2009 at 8:37pm by lifeesukks

(0)

Simply, write over it with a DryErase marker, then wipe off. There you have it, like new again.

#54 - On 12/16/2009 at 8:42pm by silasjsilence

(0)

acetone will clean it up.

then u kick the mother f-er in the teeth for doing that.

#55 - On 12/16/2009 at 8:44pm by grim0925

(0)

Whiteboard marker will get most, VERY small amount of rubbing alcohol so as not to leak into the screen or buttons. I ruined a power/lock button on mine when I used too much rubbing alcohol to clean it. Warranty covers the buttons though as long as they can't find marker. ;)
Also, if my sibling did that, my parents would ground him (and I mean no electronics and locked in his room) till he's 20.

if alcohol, nail polish remover, and dry erase marker don't work, you can try getting a new screen cover here: http://www.digiexpress.us/

they have a ton of tutorials and i was able to replace my headphone jack (and i'm really, really clumsy with electronics XD)

#62 - On 12/16/2009 at 9:09pm by Nyxity

(0)

Clean it off like everyone else said and then buy a screen protecter. That way if anything similar happens, you can just peel it off.

#64 - On 12/16/2009 at 9:23pm by Jade94

wow. some people need to get a life. i think we get it now. little brother should be kicked. permanent marker is not permanent and a razor is an example of a modern dinosaur

Also rubbing alcohol is the best way to get that stuff off. its the most gentle and its not alcohol for long cuz it evaporates and leaves behind water. in your face

An organic solvent will take that off if you can get access to anything like that, acetone, ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, etc. even a shot of vodka might do the trick. Nail polish remover used to contain acetone which is why it worked so well, but it may or may not nowadays.

Awww. That totally sucks. And payback can be a bitch sometimes. Try using denatured alcohol. Gets permanent marker off a lot of hard surfaces.

A Mister Clean Magic Earaser should work if you just barely wet it and carefully scrub.

But yea, if that doesn't work you could always sell your little brother on the black market and use the money to get a new iPod.

Definately a small amout of glass cleaner would work on a soft rag. Rubbing alcohol works the best. Use a soft rag as well if that be your choice. Get him back by letting your parents know about this little deed your brother has done you. Nail polish remover and hand sanitizer work because of rubbing alcohol, but some other things in it might affect the screen. I'm not entirely sure on that though.

just fyi, based on my personal experience using acetone, ethanol, or methanol to remove sharpie markings from glassware in labs, acetone and methanol are quite effective, and ethanol may take a few few extra applications to clean as well. HOWEVER, acetone seems to make transparent plastic (polysterene) opaque, whereas ethanol/methanol do not. You may want to avoid the nail polish remover, in case it contains acetone... at least test any cleaner with a small dab somewhere inconspicuous & let it dry.

a napkin and alcohol or if you own an expo marker use it over the sharpie and just wipe it off

do NOT use nail polish remover. I'm not sure what exactly ipods are made of, but acetone can dissolve some plastics. Use isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Alcohols get sharpie off of plastics. Just make sure you dont get anything inside wet.

#162 - On 12/21/2009 at 3:22am by floating

(0)

Nail polish remover = acetone = can dissolve some plastics, don't do that.
Computer screen or glasses clenser should do the trick
As should alcohol based clensers
If you have some clear mouthwash that may do the trick - or methanol for using on pierced ears (but not the gel you used on pierced ears)

Remember whatever you use dont put too much on at once; wet stuff will a) damage the ipod and b) probably break its warranty
