(+1)how do u know the other buttons dont work if u cant unlock it?
(0)Phones still respond to buttons pressed when locked, usually by turning the backlight on
(+1)As did I 71, as did I.
Seriously though, I'm guessing you got the iFail if it has the automatic locking feature. That in itself is a YDI, let alone having it with you when in a hot tub. I don't trust my POS krazer next to a glass of water.

(+1)OP, YDI.
Why have your phone next to a hot tub? Can't people take an hour off without having to send a text or update their twitter?
Unless your expecting a call from NASA telling you they are giving you the first free flying car, leave it in another room you fucktarded deadshit.
(0)#82, right on. couldnt have said it better myself.
(0)why would you bring a brand new cell near a hot tub??
(0)well I don't have a hot tub and my phones unlock button stopped working for no reason and I'm not posting fmls about it...
(+1)You took your phone with you to a hot tub? what were you expecting to happen? Even if the phone hadn't fallen into the water it could have been damaged by the steam from the hot water. YDI.
(0)Yea.. I had mine stopped working even when it was in pocket of my pants hung far away from the shower. I let it dry in Also the first thing you do when such accident happen is to turn off the cell phone and let it dry to avoid permanent damage. I agree to #6 ... how stupid are you really?
(+1)I had the same problem with a phone of mine. The only button that didn't work was the unlock button. Put it in a bag of uncoocked rice. It will pull all the moisture out and sometimes it'll work again.
(0)You sir, FAIL. What did you f*cking EXPECT to happen to a delicate electronic device near water?
(0)This isn't a FML. It's a I was stupid and now I'm whining about it. Water and electronics do not make a happy couple. YDI
(+1)How stupid are you? YDI asshat
(-1)asshat?
(+1)Yes, asshat. It's what I call my father on the phone.
(0)How do you know the unlock button was the only one that stopped working if you couldn't get into your phone? ....
(0)Well on my phone if I press any other button it will show up on the screen 'press * to unlock' so that means the other buttons work and when he presses the unlock one nothing happens...
(0)Because if other buttons are hit, the screen will light and tell you to unlock it.
(0)on some phones if u dial "911" and then cancel the call before you start it, it will unlock the phone..
(0):\ Take out the battery idiot.
(0)That's what I was thinking...
(0)exactly...
Stoooooooopid!

(+1)This is why idiots don't deserve nice things.
#13 - On 11/17/2009 at 6:45am by kevind23
(0)Put it in a ziplock bag with one of those desiccant packets you find in shoe boxes. After a few days, all of the trapped moisture will be out of the phone, and it should work again.
(0)ziplock? are you crazy? those things are air tight.
(+1)Last I heard, phones didn't need to breathe.
(0)haha lemon's reply made me lol so hard
same here
#118 - On 04/04/2010 at 3:46am by fuckedup5867
(+1)you deserve it, dude. that's just really stupid to brim your phone outside with you to a hot tub.
(-1)It's stupid to bring your phone outside? You're right man, I never take my cell phone outside of my house. You know, like it's designed to be used. Give the OP a break, he was probably excited about having a new phone and/or waiting on a call and got clumsy.
(0)ydi for just being plain stupid.
(0)Open it up, remove all parts you can and place them all in a bowl of plain dry rice in a warm dry dark cupboard. You might be able to save it
(0)Put a bunch of rice in sealed container and put the phone in there. Wait a few days and it will soak up all the moisture!

(+3)No, no.. you bury it in the back yard with three hairs of a lover who has scorned you under the light of a waxing gibbous, then dig it up three days later with the blade of one you have previously defeated in battle.
(+1)for fucks sake. you completely forgot to mention the blade needs to be covered in the fresh blood of a virgin.. jesus christ, the amateurs on this site...
(0)So are you offering yourself up for a bloodletting? :]
(0)35 and 37 just made my day.
(0)You dont deserve my pity,my jokes,OR my help.FAIL FAIL FAIL,lol
(0)How do you know the buttons work when the phone isnt even unlocked?
(0)Maybe there's a code they have to enter and then hit the unlock button?
(0) jackass for having it anywhere NEAR the hot tub!!! YDI
(0)YDI for having it near the hot tub. All you need to do is take the battery out, and put it in a plastic bag with the back open. Throw in a couple desiccant packs (you can find them in shoe boxes or beef jerky), and you're all set.
(0)To whom in the bathroom were you trying to show off your phone, your penis? Probably not the cheapest way to learn the tech + water = NO lesson, but there you go.
(0)You could have put it in a plastic baggie to begin with. You can use it, and it wont get wet. Doesn't help you now... Better luck next time re re.
(+2)I stopped reading after "Today, I was in my hot tub with my brand new phone."
YDI
(+1)ditto.

(-1) how do you know your buttons don't work if you can't get in unlocked? you're so retarded.
(+1)no. for fuck's sake.
will people READ THE COMMENTS BEFORE THEY POST.
this shit has been written 6 fucking times already.
your the fucking retard.
DURR DURRRRRRRRR.
(0)YDI. I think you know why.
(0)im sorryyyy OP that really does suck. im going to say FYL... altho you may have been asking for it just a little?
(0)I put YDI as soon as I saw "in the hot tub with my new phone." idiot.
(0)take it apart and put all componets in a bowl of rice for about a day or so, then try using it again!
(0)Well obviously YDI.
You willinging took an electronic item near your bath.. and was suprised when it fell in and didn't work...
geeze
(0)And that's why you don't take phones with you in the bath. 13 year old girls can learn it you can to. YDI.
(0)Once you get electronics wet, it is going to stop working. Corrosion takes time to form in the circuitry. The whole thing will stop working, not just that one button.
Maybe this will teach you to take better care of your toys.
(0)How much time? Cuz I dropped my phone in a full sink of water on New Years this year, and it still works perfectly fine. ;)
(0)If it works fine, then it will continue to do so. They were saying that if one button stops working it's only a matter of time before the rest do too.
(0)Definitely an FML--you're a fucking moron.
(0)You're an idiot for taking your new phone to a hot tub. And if it was locked how the hell would you know the other buttons worked?
(0)Go back to where you got it and say you got a broken phone and they'll give you a new one. Most smart people who get new phones get insurance on them... or there's a warranty or something. This isn't an FML. It's a YDI because who even takes their brand new phone near a hot tub or any other water source?
(0)Yeah not so much. Most phones have a sticker in them somewhere that changes color when there is water damage.
(0)How long did you give it to dry out? Take out the battery and any other parts that you can take off/out and give it like 2 days. Your button will probably start working again.
Unless you already gave it that long, in which case FYL
(0)I heard putting electronics in some rice will dry it out. Idk if it really works... Anyway, you deserved it for having your phone so close to the water! If you can accidentally knock it in with a towel, it's too close! Think about that next time!
(0)I've done the same thing, My phone has been 'swimming' four times lol, my dad showed me a trick tho, take out the battery and put the phone on the end of the vacuum hose (vacuum running of course) and leave it there for like 2 hrs (i suggest shutting off the vacuum every once in a while so the motor doesn't burn out) By then all the water should be sucked out and the key should work, if not then i believe you are screwed :/ sorry, but like i said this worked for me 4 times. good luck!!
(0)Totally YDI for even bringing it to a hot tub!
When a phone gets into contact with liquid, whether its a spill or completely drowning... don't press any buttons, but take out the battery and let it air dry for a few days!
If you can't air dry, do the Vacuum trick
(0)take out the battery and clean the inside with alcohol. and put it in rice (it actually works)
(0)"Today, I was in my hot tub with my brand new phone." YDI right there.

(0)Was is an iPhone?
(0)YDI for using ur phone in the hot tube loser
(0)Just by reading "I was in my hot with my brand new phone" I knew that you you totally deserved it. Seriously, couldn't you just wait to try your phone AFTER bathing?!
(-1)Hey Jake, invest in some unlubed condoms. They work wonders for protecting your electronics from water, sand etc. They must feel like the real thing cuz I use 'em to finger my iPhone when I'm wet ;) For MY pleasure!
(0) stand it upright in a bowel of rice it gets all the water out
(0)whhaaaat are u doing taking ur new phone into the bath tub i don even bring my phone in the bathroom YDI
(0)"Today, I was in my hot tub with my brand new phone" - Are you kidding me?! YDI idiot.
(0)I think that phone just sucks, Mine is almost a year old, and has never shattered when dropped (from a previous FML) and has never drowned when in water. >:D
(0)Turn phone off unplugging battery if necessary. Turn phone on and before it locks, remove auto key lock feature. Can't disable feature: reboot before each use. I've broken my phone in similar interesting ways a number of times and this doesn't FYL.
(0) #70, was thinking the same thing. YDI :).
#74 - On 11/17/2009 at 5:17pm by sammy6597
(0)water and a new phone...hmmm. smartttt
(0)Try taking the battery out... then putting it back in, sometimes that works to unlock it :). But other then that, I'm agreeing with number 70, sorry.

(0)use rice
#77 - On 11/17/2009 at 6:24pm by mannup1234
(0)if you try taking it apart and putting it in a sealed bag of dry rice for a few days, the rice should absorb the water.
#78 - On 11/17/2009 at 6:25pm by hrey
(0)That's what you get for bringing electronics like that near water. :P
(0)how do u kno the others work if u havnt unlocked it
(0)next time: open up the phone, pull it apart, let the parts dry. should be ok.
(0)Just take it all apart and then put it in A bucket of rice... and make sure its covering everything... the rice will take out all the water...! :) ( i did the same thing..)
(0)wow you suck
(0)Why don't u just take your car skydiving with you? Doesn't that sound like just as good of a plan? I'm sure it won't get all smashed up when it hits the ground just because that's what NORMALLY happens...
(0)all you have to do is pull it apart, spray it with WD40 or whatever your alternative is over that side of the world, and wipe it down with paper towel. It will work fine after as it draws the moisture out, and stops corrosion.

(0)Why do you idiots have to talk on the phone EVERY were? I wont talk to my GF in the bath, & this may be a surprise, but I do NOT want to talk to her when she is in hers. It is not professional, it is rude. I sure hope it was a very expensive phone.
(0)I have a family member in the hospital who may be dying. My phone comes with me everywhere I go just in case I need to get down there in a hurry to say goodbye.... but then again, I usually leave my phone a few feet away so it cant accidentally fall in.
(0)It must have gotten wet when it was in the bath with you.
(0).......why......I'm not even going to.... wow you're an idiot. End of the story.
#91 - On 11/18/2009 at 2:56am by joHnnycsU
(0)By the sounds of it, you can afford to buy another phone to use whilst in your hot tub...
(0)Put your phone, in a container with uncooked rice. check it in a day or so. my old roomie once plunged his phone into a bucket of water, 3 days later it was dry, and working.
also? wtf would compel you to bring your phone to the hot tub? newb.
(0)I stoped reading after 'I was in my hot tub with my brand new phone' and immediately clicked 'you totally deserved it.'
(0)what is with this epidemic of people putting their expensive electronic devices near bathtubs/hot tubs, etc.
really, you people arent as paranoid about things as you need to be.
(0)the fact u brought ur phone into the hot tub doesn't annoy me. What does completely infuriate me is that u chose to combine two sentences together in a way that can't be done. You cant' write "It was the unlock button, a perfectly good fone i can't use." Those are two seperate sentences. In fact, "a perfectly good fone i can't use" needs to be filled out into a real sentence. use a period
(0)how can you comment on grammar when you spell you, u, your, ur, and phone, fone?
(0)Well play with ur fancy new toy once you get out of the hottub. Every dawn on you to do that???
(0)@99
I really hope you're being sarcastic. I'd also say a semicolon would be more appropriate.
(0)I knew this was a YDI from the moment i read " hot tub" and " new phone"
(0)I think the OP loves his phone a little too much if he was getting in the hot tub with it. Even if he hadn't dropped it on the water, it still would have gotten wet...
(0)All I had to read was the first sentence, and I gave it a YDI. Which you do, of course.
(0)Wahwahwah, I've got a hot tub, but now I need to buy a new phone.
(0)What you could have done and can possibly still do is take it apart as much as you can (battery out, cover off, etc) and let it dry out. It might take a while. I misjudged the depth of the ocean once and jumped in. My phone was in my pocket and the water was waist high. Took about a month, but it works just fine now. Usually takes less time than that, but mine was royally screwed up. Yours should only take a day.
However, I do have to ask. Why did you have your phone with you in the hot tub?? I'm sorry but that's kind of like texting in the shower.
(0)One time I had my phone in my pocket and I fell into a five foot deep creek. You just have to take it completely apart and dry every part of it. That should help it work. If there's any water inside of any part of it it'll screw it up. You just have to dry it out.
(0)Get a waterproof case....
(0)I dropped my phone in the toilet recently.
(0)it was probably the 3rd day i had my phone and my mom told me to go put a glass of tea away because i left it at the couch so i did, and my phone dropped into the tea because i had it in my hand [[it was very stupid of me]] and so as quickly as i could i took it apart and dried it, but it still wouldnt work, so i left all the pieces out, and let them dry for like 3 days and it worked after tht, except my phone wouldnt turn off, so it wasnt that big of a deal
(0) a perfectly good phone that one can't use is not perfectly good at all
ydi for having you're phone with u while u wer in the hot tub
(0)If the phone was locked, how do you know the rest of the buttons still worked?
(0) I would have at least had it in a platic bag!!! did u try putting it in rice. worked when I dropped it in my drink last month. let it soak for 2-5 days
(0)lol leave it for a bit, let the circuits dry out and it could work again
(0)JAMIE ELDRIDGE.....
