Man or woman?

Today, I was walking down the street in downtown Charleston where there are a lot of horse-drawn carriage tours and I decided to pick up some litter. Some of it was in a puddle of water, but after I picked up the trash, I realized the puddle was horse urine. FML

Ouch, Maybe you should have checked first... (although there is no way to see)...

Did you disinfect your hand afterwards?

YDI for caring about the environment.

#54 - On 10/24/2009 at 3:01pm by JacobBrown

Why would you pick up wet rubbish, anyway? There's a fine line between 'doing a good deed' and 'being a dumbass'.

#2 - On 10/23/2009 at 6:15am by Turnip_Girl

Yeah WTF, who puts their hand in a puddle to pick up garbage?
Today some freak put his hand in my piss looking for treasure FHL
"NNeeiigghhhh gallop gallop gallop."

How hard is it to check a dictionary or google a word?

#11 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:07am by dacho

About as hard as it is to make sure that the word you misspelled the first time around is spelled the same the second time you use it?

#39 - On 10/23/2009 at 12:37pm by skorpien

haha. stupid horse-drawn carriages.
they always cause traffic jams and shit all over the road.

#7 - On 10/23/2009 at 6:50am by Lolrus

They don't cause traffic jams in downtown chas. They pretty much go the speed limit and if not it's easy to get around them. Unless you get stuck behind them on S or N market. Now the guys with the rickshaw things get in the way, even though they're pretty cool...lol...
But I mean seriously, if there's a whole puddle of pee, how did you not SMELL that?

#52 - On 10/24/2009 at 11:41am by vita_questa_roba

Lmfao, gotta love downtown. SC ftl. :)

#8 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:00am by Ohjustbiteme

This is one of those instances where I'm glad the OP put that extra detail, or everyone would be like, "Where the hell did the horse pee come from?"

#9 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:00am by MiniatureMayhem

No good deed goes unpunished, right?

#10 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:05am by iwadasn

im pretty sure this is fake. in a city as big as charleston, there would most likely be a law that said the horses have to wear diapers(yea, there are really horse diapers). and if there isnt a law there that says that, then FYL because who wants a bunch of horse shit in the street.

#12 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:08am by jake_the_ripper

Horse diapers? :O

#13 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:09am by Maxine17

HORSE DIAPERS?

#14 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:11am by spellfire

Most horse diapers are only for the manure, so it's still possible for there to be a urine puddle.

But good catch on that one.

#15 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:14am by sbarre1

Horse diapers o.O

#18 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:25am by KatieGoesRawrr

Do they have printed ducks all over them? Because that would be awesome.

#22 - On 10/23/2009 at 8:13am by fireandice27

Our horses in New York don't wear diapers.

#25 - On 10/23/2009 at 8:27am by XantesFire

Nor do the ones in Boston.

#27 - On 10/23/2009 at 8:45am by boatkicker

Im fairly sure a horse wearing a diaper pulling you around takes all the elegance away from the experience.

#28 - On 10/23/2009 at 9:01am by growingupnextmon

A) Charleston isn't that big...it's really hardly a city (I grew up there), B) YOU try getting a horse to wear a diaper and see how well that goes, even better, try changing that diaper, and C) It's SOUTH CAROLINA...as if most of them even notice horse crap everywhere

#33 - On 10/23/2009 at 11:11am by gte2845

Our horses in Dallas don't wear diapers.

#44 - On 10/23/2009 at 2:06pm by callmecourtney

i live in charleston and the horses do have netlike things below them to catch there stuff. so yea this is probably fake, ive lived in charleston my whole life and theres never been any pee on the road. but then again maybe thats why he was thinking it was a puddle. idk.

#49 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:53pm by yoflomo

I can believe this. The horse carriages go down my street all the time (I live two blocks away from the Market area in Charleston where the horses are kept) and diapers or not, I've stepped in more horse poop and urine than I care to recall. The diapers get full, have holes in them, or are just not used half the time. Also, as someone previously mentioned, the diapers don't catch urine. That's why the tour guides always throw the little flags into the gutter/by the curb, and mark down where the horse went to the bathroom. This is so sanitation trucks can come through and spray the affected curb. Actually, one time I think I dropped a book into the gutter, right next to one of the flags...didn't see any urine, but I knew it was there :(

#55 - On 10/25/2009 at 1:05am by HarrietPotter

Did you taste it?

#16 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:14am by Wet_Dream

No good deed goes unpunished.

#17 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:17am by Pointy130

Ew! How'd you fined out? Smell it, drink it, lick it of your hand we need to know this.

#19 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:40am by jw90

YDI @ "I decided to pick up some litter" without protective equipment.

#20 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:50am by aero

Ouch that's horrible! Pretty sad that it only happened because you were trying to do something good for the community :(

#21 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:59am by fireandice27

totally agree with Turnip Girl. good call on that. and for my fellow fml readers sake, use a dictionary CrackBoneFan. what a retard.

#23 - On 10/23/2009 at 8:23am by misspeg

I live in charleston, SC and they do have bags on the horses down town but it doesn't hold the urine. They have a street cleaner.... But idk how often it comes. The only parts that the horses go on are the "historical" and tourist infested places so I barley ever go to those parts. Shopping on king street is so much more enjoyable. :)

#24 - On 10/23/2009 at 8:25am by Ryadal0872

And if I'm not mistaken, when the horse pees, the carriage driver throws a little weighted flag in the puddle, and then a street cleaning truck comes and cleans up all the puddles.

#29 - On 10/23/2009 at 9:41am by anniebananie

Most of the horses don't have bags (I grew up in Charleston), and those that do aren't hitched on properly so the poop still lands on the street, and I've never seen a little flag in a puddle of piss...someone cleans up the crap, but the urine gets to hang out on the road...probably because people have no business walking in the street...it's for horses and cars

#35 - On 10/23/2009 at 11:13am by gte2845

I'll back up #29. I've been on those tours before and I definitely know they throw down the little flag and radio someone to come clean it up. Not sure if it's just for poop though.

wash your hands and move on.
good on you for picking up litter though!

#30 - On 10/23/2009 at 9:53am by dreamfactory

If they're puddles in sunny weather, they are all urine. If they're puddles in the rain, 2/3 of them are urine. (I live about 140 miles from Charleston)

#31 - On 10/23/2009 at 10:35am by xenomorph

so...wash your hands and get over it

#32 - On 10/23/2009 at 11:11am by AshleyRose784

No good deed goes unpunished... next!

#34 - On 10/23/2009 at 11:12am by blastvortex

stop being such a baby and get over it. its probably cleaner than your piss. it isnt as bad as some of the things i've had to touch at work so get over yourself and buck up.

#36 - On 10/23/2009 at 11:22am by layelia23

Haha you have a shit job.

#43 - On 10/23/2009 at 1:10pm by Zezing

At least it was horse piss and not the other way around, man.

#37 - On 10/23/2009 at 11:29am by NasalSex

Yeah, damn good thing too. I'd hate to touch a puddle of piss horse. THAT would TOTALLY ruin my day...

#41 - On 10/23/2009 at 12:42pm by skorpien

Now that you're covered in horse pee, go find a female horse to spend your life with. The two of you can walk hoof-in-hand through the streets of downtown. Aww.

Then you can neighl her! *facepalm*

#38 - On 10/23/2009 at 12:23pm by Witchcraft

Yay Charleston! I go to school there. Really though, picking up dry trash without proper protection is just stupid. And really, from a puddle? I mean jeebus.

#42 - On 10/23/2009 at 12:48pm by lottelikes

Good for you for trying to clean up(:

#46 - On 10/23/2009 at 5:47pm by alirson

My parents live in Charleston. :D

But seriously, you couldn't SMELL that it was urine? It's not exactly odor-free. Sorry, but YDI.

#47 - On 10/23/2009 at 7:04pm by baffledkitten

AWWW i feel so sorry for u! u were being so nice *sad face* *tear*

#50 - On 10/23/2009 at 8:04pm by thewhiterabbit11

Wow peiple a horse diaper is just a bag between the horse and the carriage to catch the manure... Research people research

#51 - On 10/23/2009 at 8:54pm by spazz666

YDI for caring about the environment. pussy.

#53 - On 10/24/2009 at 2:02pm by greent

#56 - On 10/25/2009 at 1:47am by Downface

Clueless tourists... The #1 rule of Charleston is to avoid the puddles!!!

#57 - On 10/25/2009 at 10:15am by Missy23

Man i just moved to Charleston... Now i know to avoid puddles... lol

#58 - On 10/25/2009 at 8:20pm by Spong138

Here's a Charleston tip: Whenever you see "puddles" marked with a little flag sticking out of a tennis ball cut in half... well those are piss puddles. They also tend to be rather yellow and smell a lot like horse piss.

#59 - On 10/26/2009 at 6:27am by serp

Bahahaha I never thought I'd see an FML from someone who probably goes to school with me (I assume from "downtown Charleston")! Sucks... but I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said!

#60 - On 10/27/2009 at 1:38am by omnomnom

Bad luck, but I really admire your thoughtfulness for the environment. At least you can wash horse piddle off.
