Ouch, Maybe you should have checked first... (although there is no way to see)...
Did you disinfect your hand afterwards?

YDI for caring about the environment.
Why would you pick up wet rubbish, anyway? There's a fine line between 'doing a good deed' and 'being a dumbass'.
Yeah WTF, who puts their hand in a puddle to pick up garbage?
Today some freak put his hand in my piss looking for treasure FHL
"NNeeiigghhhh gallop gallop gallop."
wow, some people are so weird...
Good on you for picking up litter. Need more people like you. Sorry about the urine.

if nobody asked for a voulantare, don't voulantere.
How hard is it to check a dictionary or google a word?
About as hard as it is to make sure that the word you misspelled the first time around is spelled the same the second time you use it?
haha. stupid horse-drawn carriages.
they always cause traffic jams and shit all over the road.
They don't cause traffic jams in downtown chas. They pretty much go the speed limit and if not it's easy to get around them. Unless you get stuck behind them on S or N market. Now the guys with the rickshaw things get in the way, even though they're pretty cool...lol...
But I mean seriously, if there's a whole puddle of pee, how did you not SMELL that?
Lmfao, gotta love downtown. SC ftl. :)
This is one of those instances where I'm glad the OP put that extra detail, or everyone would be like, "Where the hell did the horse pee come from?"

No good deed goes unpunished, right?
im pretty sure this is fake. in a city as big as charleston, there would most likely be a law that said the horses have to wear diapers(yea, there are really horse diapers). and if there isnt a law there that says that, then FYL because who wants a bunch of horse shit in the street.
Most horse diapers are only for the manure, so it's still possible for there to be a urine puddle.
But good catch on that one.
Do they have printed ducks all over them? Because that would be awesome.
Our horses in New York don't wear diapers.
Nor do the ones in Boston.
Im fairly sure a horse wearing a diaper pulling you around takes all the elegance away from the experience.
A) Charleston isn't that big...it's really hardly a city (I grew up there), B) YOU try getting a horse to wear a diaper and see how well that goes, even better, try changing that diaper, and C) It's SOUTH CAROLINA...as if most of them even notice horse crap everywhere
Our horses in Dallas don't wear diapers.
i live in charleston and the horses do have netlike things below them to catch there stuff. so yea this is probably fake, ive lived in charleston my whole life and theres never been any pee on the road. but then again maybe thats why he was thinking it was a puddle. idk.
I can believe this. The horse carriages go down my street all the time (I live two blocks away from the Market area in Charleston where the horses are kept) and diapers or not, I've stepped in more horse poop and urine than I care to recall. The diapers get full, have holes in them, or are just not used half the time. Also, as someone previously mentioned, the diapers don't catch urine. That's why the tour guides always throw the little flags into the gutter/by the curb, and mark down where the horse went to the bathroom. This is so sanitation trucks can come through and spray the affected curb. Actually, one time I think I dropped a book into the gutter, right next to one of the flags...didn't see any urine, but I knew it was there :(

No good deed goes unpunished.
Ew! How'd you fined out? Smell it, drink it, lick it of your hand we need to know this.

YDI @ "I decided to pick up some litter" without protective equipment.

Ouch that's horrible! Pretty sad that it only happened because you were trying to do something good for the community :(
totally agree with Turnip Girl. good call on that. and for my fellow fml readers sake, use a dictionary CrackBoneFan. what a retard.
I live in charleston, SC and they do have bags on the horses down town but it doesn't hold the urine. They have a street cleaner.... But idk how often it comes. The only parts that the horses go on are the "historical" and tourist infested places so I barley ever go to those parts. Shopping on king street is so much more enjoyable. :)

And if I'm not mistaken, when the horse pees, the carriage driver throws a little weighted flag in the puddle, and then a street cleaning truck comes and cleans up all the puddles.
Most of the horses don't have bags (I grew up in Charleston), and those that do aren't hitched on properly so the poop still lands on the street, and I've never seen a little flag in a puddle of piss...someone cleans up the crap, but the urine gets to hang out on the road...probably because people have no business walking in the street...it's for horses and cars
I'll back up #29. I've been on those tours before and I definitely know they throw down the little flag and radio someone to come clean it up. Not sure if it's just for poop though.

wash your hands and move on.
good on you for picking up litter though!
If they're puddles in sunny weather, they are all urine. If they're puddles in the rain, 2/3 of them are urine. (I live about 140 miles from Charleston)
so...wash your hands and get over it
No good deed goes unpunished... next!
stop being such a baby and get over it. its probably cleaner than your piss. it isnt as bad as some of the things i've had to touch at work so get over yourself and buck up.
Haha you have a shit job.
At least it was horse piss and not the other way around, man.
Yeah, damn good thing too. I'd hate to touch a puddle of piss horse. THAT would TOTALLY ruin my day...
Now that you're covered in horse pee, go find a female horse to spend your life with. The two of you can walk hoof-in-hand through the streets of downtown. Aww.
Then you can neighl her! *facepalm*
Yay Charleston! I go to school there. Really though, picking up dry trash without proper protection is just stupid. And really, from a puddle? I mean jeebus.
Good for you for trying to clean up(:
My parents live in Charleston. :D
But seriously, you couldn't SMELL that it was urine? It's not exactly odor-free. Sorry, but YDI.
AWWW i feel so sorry for u! u were being so nice *sad face* *tear*
Wow peiple a horse diaper is just a bag between the horse and the carriage to catch the manure... Research people research
YDI for caring about the environment. pussy.
Clueless tourists... The #1 rule of Charleston is to avoid the puddles!!!
Man i just moved to Charleston... Now i know to avoid puddles... lol
Here's a Charleston tip: Whenever you see "puddles" marked with a little flag sticking out of a tennis ball cut in half... well those are piss puddles. They also tend to be rather yellow and smell a lot like horse piss.

Bahahaha I never thought I'd see an FML from someone who probably goes to school with me (I assume from "downtown Charleston")! Sucks... but I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said!
Bad luck, but I really admire your thoughtfulness for the environment. At least you can wash horse piddle off.
