Today, I decided to take a nap while babysitting my neighbors kids for the day. I was woken up by this obnoxious sound, only to find the youngest kid holding scissors in one hand, a pony tail of hair in his shorts jumping around like a horse, oh, and a bald spot on the back of my head. FML

She didn't mean to, and isn't the point to have someone there in case something goes wrong? Not to watch the kids every single second.

#97 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:16pm by realggirl

Actually, looks like she intentionally took a nap: "Today, I DECIDED to take a nap. . . "

She didn't say, "Today, I accidentally fell asleep. . . "

#114 - On 07/10/2009 at 6:30pm by ledandelion

And also, the point is to WATCH the kids so nothing DOES go wrong-- not to just help them when they decide the stove is a fun new toy or that climbing on a dresser is a good idea, but to PREVENT them from getting near such dangerous objects and situations in the first place. Helping them once "something goes wrong" is often too late and is a very poor tactic when watching CHILDREN, who need contant attention and a very watchful eye.

#115 - On 07/10/2009 at 6:36pm by ledandelion

Agreed with #114 and #115, #97 fails.

To the OP, YDI. I applaud the child who cut your hair off, they taught you a lesson. Don't sleep on the job.

#116 - On 07/10/2009 at 6:44pm by seb12992

Um, no. The point is to have someone there, watching the kids every second

#124 - On 07/10/2009 at 9:04pm by bordemstirs

Actually, the point of babysitting IS to watch the kids every single second. That is what you are being PAID to do!!!!

YDI, OP.

#125 - On 07/10/2009 at 9:17pm by cybely

another person who sleeps on the job. Lifeguards and now babysitters, whats next? ER doctors?

#127 - On 07/10/2009 at 9:33pm by LordKoin772

Agreed with 115. You wouldn't want the kids to play "let's drink the stuff under the sink" now would you?

#164 - On 03/12/2010 at 8:12pm by ReyEr9412

Isn't rule number one of babysitting; never fall asleep? It's understandable if its overnight, but seriously...

#2 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:32am by teehee520

Not necessarily. Depending on how old they are and how they normally behave, popping in a nap can be totally acceptable. I know I am babysitting three kids, and their mother told me to just order them to their rooms if I need one for whatever reason.

#106 - On 07/10/2009 at 4:50pm by BLNovelist

Don't nap while babysitting. You got off cheap. The kid could have got hold of a lighter and decided to play barbeque with the couch. You're paid to watch them. Sleep on your own time.

No, actually, you're paid to help them out when they need shit done. Their parents don't watch them all the time when there isn't a babysitter home, why would they possibly expect a babysitter to? You're just there to make them food, help them do whatever they would normally ask their parents for help with and to dick around and watch TV. You have obviously never been or had a babysitter.

#88 - On 07/10/2009 at 2:06pm by wienerwagon

ah no....der not her kids so ya she is expected to watch every single move they make.......especially when she's being paid to do just that

#157 - On 07/13/2009 at 5:34am by kerrygirl

#88 Your family must be retarded because you had to learn somewhere that it's fine to not watch small children constantly.

#163 - On 02/20/2010 at 3:00am by Shadow14l

What were you doing sleeping, asswad? You deserved it and more. I wish the kid had cut your damn ear off.

#4 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:33am by midwestjerk

Amen PP! Jeez, OP you are no better than the dips$%^ that fell asleep as a lifeguard. I am glad the kids didn't burn the bloody house down. If you must sleep, do it when the kids nap, asswipe.

#48 - On 07/10/2009 at 9:46am by lilstephs1

And I also hope she had to tell the parents why she was now without hair.

I'm afraid for my future children! If people think it's okay to act like this when they're supposed to be protecting little kids from themselves... ugh. -_-;;

#134 - On 07/11/2009 at 12:47am by onigiriqueen

This is why you never have children, babysit them or have anything to do with the brats. Ever.

Why would you fall asleep during babysitting?! Irresponsible, ydi.

#6 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:36am by theoffkid

Going to have to agree that you definitely earned that one. Your hair will grow back so you got off light.

#7 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:37am by ellehcor

Hope you never have children

#8 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:38am by Jennika

That sucks hardcore. I don't care what anyone else says about the falling asleep part- having your hair chopped off is a definite FYL.

#9 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:40am by shortandloud

I know!! Females pride themselves with their hair. And in a few uncontrollable eye droops and blinks, no more hair! T______T I'm so sorry OP, kids! X(

#63 - On 07/10/2009 at 11:29am by andyn

Pretty sure if she was fat and ugly she'd care more about her hair than someone who has more going for them.

don't fall asleep! but it sucks anw. D:

#12 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:47am by pingpongdj

I voted both, 'cause you shouldn't have been sleeping, but I understand how you feel about the hair thing, if my hair was chopped off, I'd die.

#128 - On 07/10/2009 at 9:37pm by BlackScorpionAng

YDI for reasons already stated and *not* an FML because it's just hair. It will grow back.

#14 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:53am by zargon

It takes time to grow back.
It's not like her hair is going to be back by tomorrow.

#70 - On 07/10/2009 at 12:16pm by inerdablanket

Yeah, but she's not going to die from lack of hair in the mean time . It's not like the kid cut off her hand.

#77 - On 07/10/2009 at 1:02pm by Cloudy

Would you want to walk around with a ginormous bald spot in the middle of your head?

YDI for sleeping on the job. You better be lucky he didn't injure himself or his siblings with those scissors, or this would be a huge FML for you.

#92 - On 07/10/2009 at 2:21pm by CoconutsandJelly

i know some girls who struggle because it takes years for their hair to grow even a couple of inches. so yeah, it'll grow back, but for some people, it could take a long ass time.

#100 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:26pm by wut

It takes forever to grow a couple inches when it's long, but it grows much more quickly when it's short. She may not get it back to the length it was, but she can style it now to be presentable and it will soon grow to be decent-looking at minimum.

Unless she's Samson, she is worrying *way* too much about hair.

#118 - On 07/10/2009 at 6:54pm by zargon

Well,I would say both BUT you took a big risk when you decided to take a nap on the job. Kids can do anything in the shortest amount of time. You really got lucky that they didn't hurt themselves. So for the first time EVER I'm going to say YDI!

#15 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:54am by sexymessy

Wow I'm sorry!! That sucks! Even though you shouldn't sleep while babysitting (unless it was late, & they were already in bed too) I'll still say FYL.... =(

#16 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:54am by cucumberfabulous

I got news for you gripers, mothers and fathers sleep all the time when they are at home with their kids. Kids are very draining. If she was babysitting as a neighborly thing, FHL. If she was being paid then its more of a YDI.

#17 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:55am by I_am_stupid_also

Okay, true, moms and dads fall asleep while their kids are at home... but, should they fall asleep when the kid is in a position to get a hold of a pair of SCISSORS??? Probably not.

#19 - On 07/10/2009 at 4:02am by Leptailurus

#17 yeah parents fall asleep when looking after their kids (i have 2 so I know all about this) but a half decent parent would make sure their kids don't have access to dangerous things ie scissors

#20 - On 07/10/2009 at 4:05am by anonaussie

mothers and fathers aren't paying themselves to watch their child...

#31 - On 07/10/2009 at 5:23am by coffee_chick

I have to disagree with this. No good parent falls asleep while watching their kid when they're still awake if their kid is young enough not to know not to play with scissors, etc.

#73 - On 07/10/2009 at 12:46pm by mobius8

Yes, parents fall asleep, but they're not the ones getting paid to watch the kids.

#91 - On 07/10/2009 at 2:21pm by alex_vik

So quality of care depends on whether or not you're getting paid? If it was my kid, I wouldn't expect the baby sitter to provide a higher standard of care than I would as a parent. If you think it's unacceptable for a babysitter, you really think it's unacceptable for yourself as a parent.

#112 - On 07/10/2009 at 6:16pm by mobius8

not only did you fall asleep which is totally irresponsible but the kid had access to scissors. Your lucky the kid didnt hurt them selves or even kill themselves, scissors can do heaps of damage. You coulda ended up in serious shit

#18 - On 07/10/2009 at 4:02am by anonaussie

Kids are not imbeciles. If they are kid's scissors, there really isn't any danger. Sure one could go psycho and stab your eyes out, but that just doesn't happen.

#21 - On 07/10/2009 at 4:08am by I_am_stupid_also

If they're sharp enough to cut off a ponytail before she's able to stop them, they're sharp enough to do damage.

#76 - On 07/10/2009 at 12:54pm by aback

You can't watch the kids for one day without falling asleep?

#22 - On 07/10/2009 at 4:11am by jthm_guitarist

#26 - On 07/10/2009 at 4:39am by Turnip_Girl

ydi for sleeping instead of watching the kids. what if he had stabbed himself with the scissors and bled out?

#35 - On 07/10/2009 at 7:05am by pwnrzero

um...where? on fmylife.com?
OP- YDI on so many levels...1.you deserve it for going to sleep.. 2.not making sure that nothing dangerous in within reach of a child.. 3. posting this on here since it's clearly your fault "I decided to take a nap"
sure parents will take naps, I should know since I have a 3 year old..but I know damn well to make sure she isn't able to reach anything first. And if I am actually planning a nap I set up the room so she'll be entertained for apporx. 30 mins like putting in a movie and setting out coloring books, toys, etc.

#36 - On 07/10/2009 at 7:20am by jncwmnd

i think the neighbours thing is messing up what i should click. if youre doing it as a favour to them, then FYL if youre doing it because its your job YDI.
i dont care what anyone says, you dont know where scissors are kept in the house, its not your property, sure youre responsible for them, but if they wanted you to do a better job the stingy fucks should have paid you.
alternatively, youre getting paid, dont sleep on the job dumbass. if youre gonna be sleeping at work, you do it at the right time, clearly this was not it.
im gonna click YDI anyway because if you were doing it for free id expect you to give us that information.

#37 - On 07/10/2009 at 7:24am by organisedchaos

FYL! This is why the longer I work at my job watching kids the less I want to have them.

#38 - On 07/10/2009 at 7:43am by chrismace

You don't ever go to sleep when you watch kids!

#39 - On 07/10/2009 at 7:51am by Pamina128

#53 - On 07/10/2009 at 10:10am by dang

i give you credit for not drowning that kid in the bathtub after seeing your former crowning glory bouncing around in some toddler's shorts. stay awake next time?

#43 - On 07/10/2009 at 8:13am by mercyFML

I don't get why people are saying "It's not OK if you were being paid to watch the kids & fell asleep, but if it was just a neighborly thing, well, it's not as bad." HUH!? So what if the kid got in a horrible accident & died while you were watching it.. "Oh well, it's not like they were PAYING me to watch the kid." If you agree to watch the kids, watch the kids!

#44 - On 07/10/2009 at 8:18am by car_uh

Oh..shoot. YDI for napping during babysitting though.

#45 - On 07/10/2009 at 8:23am by glitteroverdrive

Total YDI for taking a nap, and if you're a guy ... a double YDI for having a ponytail.

#46 - On 07/10/2009 at 9:15am by Raytestrak

YOU'RE SO STUPID!!! And its not like they were tired and just fell asleep, OP DECIDED to take a nap! You're lucky the kid didn't poke his eyes out!! And for the hair, it'll grow back, but you could donate the ponytail if its long enough, take your stupidness and help a poor little kid with cancer

#47 - On 07/10/2009 at 9:44am by mylifeisfuckedd

YDI for falling asleep while babysitting!!!!!!! dumbass!!

i mean, what made you think you could take a nap??

#49 - On 07/10/2009 at 9:46am by who_rollerpig

you're lucky the little darling didn't set the house afire. you'd be dead. if you can sleep through a kid scissoring your hair, you'd sleep through a fire.

#50 - On 07/10/2009 at 9:48am by Qup

You're lucky all the kid did was cut your hair... they could have seriously injured themselves and i'm sure the parents would have sued you for every measly cent you're worth and you'd probably never find a good after that. needless to say, you 100% deserved that.

#51 - On 07/10/2009 at 9:59am by dang

No more sleeping on the job for you. YDI. It'll grow back.

#57 - On 07/10/2009 at 10:48am by blueknight1st

Let's go over the facts...
-YOUNGEST kid (so there is more than 1) had access to SCISSORS (no doubt he was running with them too) while you were SLEEPING (don't worry, you have the ability to have eyes in the back of your head and the ability to not need to open your eyes either)

Our decision...... ( drumroll )

#61 - On 07/10/2009 at 11:07am by 1234five

Whether you're being paid or not, when you agree to watch kids it takes the same level of responsibility, and you shouldn't be sleeping.

#64 - On 07/10/2009 at 11:34am by photofool

You fell asleep while you were supposed to be watching the kids.
Any way you spin it, it's your fault. YDI.

#65 - On 07/10/2009 at 11:42am by Hazy

If he/she thought they were asleep because it was late enough, I can see him/her falling asleep, but hopefully it wasn't during the day. Still sucks though.

#66 - On 07/10/2009 at 11:50am by shelbcz

Even if you deserved it, that still sucks

#67 - On 07/10/2009 at 12:08pm by RoqueSand

I'm surprised no one is calling BS here.... Have you ever tried to cut a pony tail of hair?? It is NOT easy. Certainly something a little kid would not be able to do to a sleeping person without waking them up.

She's totally lying.

#68 - On 07/10/2009 at 12:09pm by lil_lucy23

Yes. And it's pretty easy if you're not using kiddy scissors...

#74 - On 07/10/2009 at 12:48pm by mobius8

an intact ponytail is NOT easy to cut. especially one bound tight enough to play with afterward. otherwise, there would be hair everywhere.... the story is BS

#78 - On 07/10/2009 at 1:07pm by lil_lucy23

Who the hell made you the expert in ponytail cutting? Do you make a habit of going around cutting off various pony tails? I cut my mates off when he was passed out, with a sharp pair of kitchen scissors, no problem. Shut the hell up.

#79 - On 07/10/2009 at 1:10pm by mobius8

I'm a stylist dumbass.... ever hear of Locks of Love??? I cut ponytails quite often.

#80 - On 07/10/2009 at 1:26pm by lil_lucy23

A stylist makes a habit of loping of ponytails in one snip? Yeah right. You sound like a pro stylist to me... or you know, just someone who is full of shit and realises they're on the internet and can make believe they have whatever job they think will make them sound most knowledgeable on the subject they're running their mouth off about at the time.

#83 - On 07/10/2009 at 1:41pm by mobius8

Locks of Love is a charitable organization that makes wigs for young cancer patients. If you want to donate your hair, you go to a STYLIST to get your hair cut at the appropriate length. I am one of the only stylists who offers this service in my area. Sorry buddy - I cut ponytails all the time.

For a small child to be strong enough to cut someones ponytail, leaving a BALD SPOT all while the person is sleeping is extremely unlikely. It's common sense, above all else. common sense.... try it - it's nice.

#86 - On 07/10/2009 at 1:52pm by lil_lucy23

Yeap and like I said, you sound someone who is full of shit and realises they're on the internet and can make believe they have whatever job they think will make them sound most knowledgeable on the subject they're running their mouth off about at the time.

I'm sure if someone's doing a neat job, it probably takes them more than one snip, but it took me two snips with a sharp pair of kitchen scissors to take my mates hair pony tail off, and I'm pretty sure a kid isn't going to have much of a problem cutting through the hair of someone while they're asleep.

#89 - On 07/10/2009 at 2:13pm by mobius8

so, were you a little kid when you cut your friends hair? or was this a dumb drunken stunt?

Little kids aren't coordinated enough with scissors.

You're an idiot troll who's arguing for fun.

Google 'Locks of Love' so you know what I'm talking about. It's obvious that you're not from the US.

#90 - On 07/10/2009 at 2:20pm by lil_lucy23

mobius8 you ARE an idiot, she does know what she's talking about. I've donated to locks of love and the stylists who do it do cut your hair off in a ponytail. And even with their well maintained and very sharp shears they don't get them off that easily. So grow up and quit being a jerk!

#99 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:26pm by ellehcor

If the OP is blond or another light haired type - it is entirely possible for it to look bald. I know my boyfriend has dirty blond hair, thin as well - and is constantly joked at about how he looks like he is losing his hair at certain angles. :o

#108 - On 07/10/2009 at 4:59pm by BLNovelist

How does me googling Locks of Love prove you work for them, or that cutting through a pony tail requires more than two snips? No I'm not from the US (thank god) and obviously you are if you are stupid enough to think getting someone to google an organization will prove you work for them,

I'm not arguing for fun. You're the one that came in here calling fake. I'm just saying it's entirely possible to cut someones ponytail off in a couple of snips and that I have, and regardless, the kid had the entire time she was asleep.

Of course kids are coordinated enough with scissors to cut off some hair. Just about every parent I know has a story about their kid giving themselves a self hair cut at some point. Perhaps you were just as retarded as a child as you are as an adult, but that doesn't mean that's the norm.

#111 - On 07/10/2009 at 6:12pm by mobius8

Mobius... considering you, yourself, actually thought it was a good idea to cut someones hair off while sleeping only proves your level of intelligence... so you should really just stop making yourself look like a bigger asshole.

I think this story is, as told, completely fabricated. I don't doubt that the kid cut her hair.... but the entire ponytail to the scalp? no way.

guess what? it's OK that you don't agree with me. you don't have to. *pats mobius8s head*

#121 - On 07/10/2009 at 7:28pm by lil_lucy23

lil_lucy23 for a "stylist dumbass" (your words not mine) you're pretty smart... I think this story is bullshit too. I've cut off hair that was bound in an elastic band before and that isn't an easy thing to do at all, it takes a lot of cutting with sharp scissors and you would certainly feel it. Also, unless the hair was loosely bound the kid would have cut away the hair on the other side of the elastic band and the hair would have fallen in a free heap, not something the kid could be whipping around playing with. If it was loosely bound, she wouldn't have a bald spot, just short hair. If the hair was so tight it left a bald spot after the cut, the op would not have been able to have slept through the cutting unless the little shit had slipped her a roofie (Rohypnol).

#136 - On 07/11/2009 at 1:52am by BlackScorpionAng

Yeap, because drinking with my friends and getting a mate back has anything to do with my IQ.

You said a kid couldn't cut the ponytail off. Not that you didn't think it would be to the scalp. I'm sure she didn't mean that entirely literally, but everyone gets the idea. There's a patch in the back of her head where she's practically bald.

Retard.

it has EVERYTHING to do with your IQ. get over yourself.

#140 - On 07/11/2009 at 1:13pm by lil_lucy23

So after changing your argument to the kid not being able to cut it off, to the kid not being able to cut it neatly at the scalp, you've realized you can't defend your point by claiming on the internet you have a job that makes you an expert, and are going to fall back on saying relatively harmless pranks high school mates play on each other is indicative of IQ? Pretty sure your inability to follow through with a logical argument or type like someone who has finished high school is far more indicative of your IQ, or lack thereof.

#141 - On 07/11/2009 at 1:52pm by mobius8

you're the one who started with the ad hominem attacks... not me. stop trying to spin it. move on with your life.

again, you don't have to agree with me. it's ok.

#142 - On 07/11/2009 at 2:40pm by lil_lucy23

Actually, you resorted to childish name calling throwing around big words like "dumbass" to support your argument, right before you changed your story from "a kid couldn't cut a ponytail off" to "it couldn't cut a patch close enough to the scalp to give her a literal bald patch". Sorry you tried to sound like you knew what you were talking about and failed, but I suggest you take your own advice and move on now.

#144 - On 07/11/2009 at 4:53pm by mobius8

I didn't change my story... I never changed my story. I based my original (unchanging) opinion on what the FML actually said (imagine that). Said the kid was using the ponytail as a prop, it happened in her sleep and she had a bald spot. Based this info, and my knowledge (and yes, I'm a stylist... if I were going to lie about my profession on the internet... It wouldn't be hairdresser. I'd come up with something much more exciting. physician, perhaps?), the likelihood of a child cutting a ponytail that would yield those results, is extremely unlikely. The FML is a fabrication. That's all I ever said. You're the one who won't let this go.

now, I'm not sure why you feel compelled to continually attack me, my profession and my intelligence for having this opinion.... but it's getting old.

So, be sure to continue attacking me... I cannot wait for the next round!!! :D

#145 - On 07/11/2009 at 5:21pm by lil_lucy23

No. In your first post you said the kid wouldn't have been able to cut it off, and that the FML was BS, not a "fabrication" as your claiming now. It's not till your 4th post you say anything about the bald spot, and I'm pretty sure most people would read what the OP wrote as practically a bald spot, where there is pretty much no hair left, not, shaved clean to the scalp bald.

Exactly, you could claim to be a physician. But it wouldn't make you an "expert" in pony tail cutting and so wouldn't help your misguided opinion, so it wouldn't make any sense to say that, would it. Plus, you might have to work a little bit harder to back up your profession claim than saying "google this organisation for proof i work for them".

Insult your intelligence? Perhaps you haven't been reading any of this. Would certainly make sense from your idiotic replies. As I pointed out above, you were the one who started the oh so mature name calling with "dumbass". And no where have I insulted your profession. And you didn't make this post as an opinion. You wrote it as fact. You said "this story IS BS" not "I THINK this story is BS". Very big difference. Judging by your complete lack of ability to respond relevantly and awful reading comprehension perhaps you are more of an expert on what a child can and can't do than I thought, but not for the reasons you've given.

It's entirely possible for a kid to cut through a pony tail. Asides from everything else, the following fact makes your opinion void - negative results don't prove a positive result can't exist, but a positive result does prove positive results can exist.

I have cut through my friends pony tail, as I said, in two snips, meaning it has happened and is possible. Most people know a kid coordinated with scissors to cut their own hair (usually horribly, but still).

I stand by my original assessment.

#152 - On 07/12/2009 at 1:48pm by lil_lucy23

By "stand by it" you mean "cannot defend it in any way whatsoever but still feel the need to have the last post", and alrighty then.

#153 - On 07/12/2009 at 6:06pm by mobius8

alrighty then....

don't fall asleep on the job.

#69 - On 07/10/2009 at 12:14pm by brunoisbeast

And teenagers wonder why we don't let them babysit kids.

#71 - On 07/10/2009 at 12:16pm by Maricely1

Wow, that sucks. But if you're being paid to watch the kids, then you should be watching them, not sleeping.

#75 - On 07/10/2009 at 12:53pm by swagmonkey

some advise dont fall asleep next time u babysit. ahahhahha

#81 - On 07/10/2009 at 1:33pm by smileygirl123

never trust kids...never

#85 - On 07/10/2009 at 1:48pm by shadow_duv

This is why you never fall asleep while watching kids. It can only lead to problems.
YDI for falling asleep on the job. You aren't being paid to sleep.

#93 - On 07/10/2009 at 2:32pm by summersong89

My parents would have given me an ass kicking and fired you for sleeping while watching me.

I hope it turned out this way.

#94 - On 07/10/2009 at 2:43pm by intrepid00

If someone touches my hair in a harming way I flip shit. I would probably scream my head off and lock the kid in his room until he cries himself to sleep.

#95 - On 07/10/2009 at 2:47pm by pinkuggs4ever

bad baby sitter

#96 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:14pm by chocoLIFE

Wtf is wrong with all of you? How did she "deserve" a bald spot on the back of her head? The punishment doesn't fit the crime. She probably assessed that the kids weren't going to cause too much of a ruckus and therefore took a nap. It's not that hard to understand.

#98 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:19pm by jewelzgalore

I think she should stop complaining because she got off easy with just a bald spot. Does no one remember the babysitter who fell asleep and awoke to two drowned kids? It was all over the news. Don't sleep while you're babysitting, that's not what you're paid for!

#101 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:37pm by maddi_o

That kid's parents should totally pay for the haircut you're gonna need to fix that.

And to everyone bashing her for sleeping, did it ever occur to you that maybe she put the kid to bed before taking a nap? She said she was baby-sitting for a whole day. Do you think the kid's parents stay awake every night watching him sleep to make sure he doesn't wake up and get into trouble? She totally did not deserve that one.

#102 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:43pm by HLJW1989

well to those of you saying that this is an FML because and that parents dont constantly watch their children, i would say that yes parents do take their eyes off their kids but they do not fall asleep. and if she was being paid, then thats even more of a reason to watch the kids closely because they arent your kids and because your being paid to make sure nothing happens, and something could always happen.

to those of you arguing about it being possible for a small child to cut off a ponytail, it really depends on the thickness of the hair and how heavy a sleeper the person is, because it didnt say anything about her being awakened by the hair being cut off but by the child making noise.

OP: i would be upset too but at the same time, you shouldnt have fallen asleep unless it was overnight and the child was asleep for the night (not even a nap)

#103 - On 07/10/2009 at 3:51pm by checkitoutt

Actually, they do. The mother I babysit/childsit for takes naps almost daily when she gets home - all three kids up and playing. and that is after I leave. Not to mention the other parents I know of.

#109 - On 07/10/2009 at 5:03pm by BLNovelist

Wow. Way to fall asleep and totally forget the fact that the kid could reach SCISSORS. You're lucky all he cut was your hair.

#104 - On 07/10/2009 at 4:12pm by littlemessalina

That's what you get when you fall asleep while baby sitting just be thankful the kid didn't wander off or burn the house down YDI

#105 - On 07/10/2009 at 4:20pm by Marcela93

Not enough information. Depending on how old they are - either FYL because you should have been able to get a quick nap without worrying about whether or not your hair would be chopped off, or YDI because they are too young to just let off on their own while you sleep. Also depends on what precisely you are supposed to be doing - are you paid to watch them or paid to help them during the day? If the former, definately YDI.

#107 - On 07/10/2009 at 4:55pm by BLNovelist

Are you really that stupid? How could you fall asleep and not feel a younger pulling on your hair while cutting it off!

You are a moron and should not be allowed to me around children.

#110 - On 07/10/2009 at 6:00pm by shoreshock

YDI. That's what you get for falling asleep on the job. Maybe next time you'll learn to be responsible for yourself and your actions and stay awake.

#113 - On 07/10/2009 at 6:29pm by mkivsuptt

I hope you voluntarily babysit because if I paid you to watch my kids and you fell asleep on the job, well, you'd now be jobless. How irresponsible is that? You are getting paid to watch these kids. It's your job. You totally deserve this 100%. You're lucky they didn't seriously hurt themselves, dumbass.

#117 - On 07/10/2009 at 6:49pm by sickinlove13

YDI for fucking sleeping on the job

#119 - On 07/10/2009 at 7:01pm by shirmk

YDI for sleeping while babysitting. You are an irresponsible idiot who shouldn't be allowed to watch children.

#120 - On 07/10/2009 at 7:23pm by deaditegirl

I'd like to see your response if this happened to you.

#137 - On 07/11/2009 at 1:56am by shmaller

dont fall asleep while babysitting! YDI.

#122 - On 07/10/2009 at 7:37pm by andy3

Wow. Instant karma. If you're asleep and don't wake up by some kid cutting your hair, what do you expect to happen when one of them needs you?

#126 - On 07/10/2009 at 9:29pm by containsnosoy

wow im sorry the worst that happens to me is i wake to them kids hitting me

#129 - On 07/10/2009 at 10:10pm by VA_longboarder

If you are a dude ydi for having a ponytail, if not, fyl

#130 - On 07/10/2009 at 10:41pm by malcolm1919

Um, your job is to watch them. Not sleep.
Be glad something worse didn't happen. Especially to the kid.

#131 - On 07/10/2009 at 10:56pm by ergo

I'm awaiting to read the FML from the people for whom you were "babysitting" which would go something like "Today, instead of looking after my children for whom she was responsible, the so called babysitter decided to take a nap instead. Thankfully my kids are ok. The bitch was whining about losing some hair. She's lucky I didn't take the rest of her head with it. But now I need a new babysitter ASAP. FML"

#132 - On 07/10/2009 at 11:29pm by p00p0ster0us

Who the hell would think it's okay to take a nap while they're supposed to be babysitting a kid that is young enough to pretend they're a horse??

#133 - On 07/10/2009 at 11:43pm by larenite

I know there is a big debate whether you can cut a ponytail off someone sleeping...if there is a kid young enough for playing horse, he/she doesn't have the hand strength to just chop through and probably not the patience to be really careful, especially at the scalp. This is bs.
Don't even start with the "drunken mate". Passed out is different than sleeping.
The only chance of this being real is that it was a loose ponytail and OP had really thin hair. Then the kid may have done you a favor, thin hair looks bad long. Sorry...

#135 - On 07/11/2009 at 1:51am by theedeevaa

um, this is why you supervise children. just be thankful you're the only one who was harmed - if something had happened to them while they were sleeping it would be all your fault, the parents might even be able to sue you.

.

#143 - On 07/11/2009 at 4:49pm by mobius8

Your damn lucky all that happened was that your hair got cut. It's bad enough to sleep while you are only watching one kid, but with multiple kids involved so much more could have gone wrong. There is a reason those kids parents wanted someone to watch them while they were out, FTL that they got a mental reject like you to do it for them.

I hope you tried to complain to them about what their kid did so they found out what an idiot you are. That way not only can they not hire you again they can let their friends know not to hire you either.

#146 - On 07/11/2009 at 6:08pm by weirdgirl_sf

I'm a full time nanny, I empathize whether you took a nap or not. I think people are being kind of harsh.

#148 - On 07/11/2009 at 11:47pm by mustlovemarvin

i agree that this kid is a total brat, and i empathise with the OP over that because i've babysat some terrors in the past too. but nothing this bad ever happened to me because i never left the children unsupervised while i napped! as a nanny i'm sure you would understand the dangers of leaving a child unsupervised, especially one who is clearly not well behaved. at least now the OP probably won't inflict her lazy and irresponsible babysitting on anyone else's kids.

#149 - On 07/12/2009 at 5:32am by mobius8

You're a fucking idiot for falling asleep. Basically, I'm glad that happened to you. YDI

#155 - On 07/12/2009 at 9:37pm by strawberryswirl

I understand taking a nap. Sometimes, you really are just too tired. Besides, parents do not watch their children every second, and will often times duck out for their own naps or whatnot. If they are old enough to know how to use scissors and to have the idea to use them on hair, they are old enough to take care of themselves for a little while. It's not like there was a baby in this case, in which it would be a definite YDI. Instead, I agree, it's a FML.

#156 - On 07/12/2009 at 10:48pm by Renalia

I completely understand that parents sometimes take naps while their kids are awake. However, babysitters should be more careful, if only because some kids will try to get away with things they wouldn't ever dare to do with a parent in the house. When I was a kid I tried to get away with all kinds of shit when I was under a babysitter's supervision.

(By the way, did anyone else get the evil urge to repost the entire mobius/lucy debate and highlight all the grammar and spelling mistakes? I love finding stuff like that when the whole argument basically sounds like, "You're stupid!" "Nuh-uh, YOU are!")

#158 - On 07/27/2009 at 5:17am by TheIrishJaneDoe

how would you feel if the person you paid to WATCH your kids just decided to have a nap. YDI and then some.
