haha, that's great, he tried to give you a high five. fyl, but that's still funny.
haha fantastic!

who handsignals these days? ydi
Well bikes don't exactly have directionals on them...yet.
And it's better to let know cars in back and in front of you where you're going instead of just turning
#218 - On 06/17/2009 at 10:46pm by fmlisamazing
Gripes. Hope that moron's paying for that.
#4 - On 06/16/2009 at 3:14am by Prawn
Haha how the he'll did that happen
#5 - On 06/16/2009 at 3:18am by wtrplochica
... For once I gots nothing. Was he high?
I moderated this one :)
FYL for sure, it could've been worse
Y would he want to give u a high five?
That totally sucks! More bike riders should use hand signals. They don't have turn-signals on their bike like a car does. I vote its an FYL since the moron driving obviously wasn't paying attention in driver's ed.
They probably didn't know what you were doing.
Too many negative votes, comment buried. Show the comment.
try a car next time?
it is 2009, after all.
Why don't you go read a fuckin' book.
He may be riding a bike near a school campus or something - ever think of that?
Why the hell do you think everyone needs a car? Asshole.
or just reducing the exhaust that's going into the air
#219 - On 06/17/2009 at 10:48pm by fmlisamazing
god forbid somebody use a mode of transportation that provides much-needed exercise and helps the environment. the dumbass driver should know what a hand signal is.
wow #3 wow.
if you dont use them its so inconvenient for the driver!!
trust me i know.
they so did not deserve it.
but hahahah thats hilarious YLIF!
i could just picture the guy like hey buddy wassup?! hi five!!!!
Did you at least get a look at his car? That guy was freaking reckless and deserves to pay for every cent of damage. Hell, he'd be lucky if he didn't get convicted of attempted vehicular homicide. Call the police and tell them the make and model (and LPN if you managed to get a good look at it. Even if it's just the first three numbers it'll work.)
#15 - On 06/16/2009 at 3:24am by Reyo
dont you think attempted homicide is a little harsh, dosent attempted homicide mean you actuallly TRIED to commit homicide not tried to give a high five yeah he should pay for the damage and maby be charged for something but not attempted homicide
That is some high five you got then.
#16 - On 06/16/2009 at 3:25am by Alexgoesfml
Rofl, what a ignorant motorist!! It is obvious that he didn't pay attention in driver's Ed. FYL!
Hahahahaha! Omg what douchebag's but that was so funny of them. And dangerous..
Wow...this is one of the worst FML's I've seen...good luck on getting a new bike, feeling better, and getting that guy off the street. Even if he didn't realize you were giving a turn signal, what idiot attempts to high-five a cyclist from a moving car?
I am a horrible person for laughing at this. Sorry I can't help it, it's too funny. That's as epic as a high five gets! Obviously, someone wasn't paying attention in driver's ed.
#21 - On 06/16/2009 at 3:34am by Renan
#12 - Not everyone wants to drive, what does 2009 have to do with it?
That was a cheap laugh at your cost FYL for sure :P
This will make a wonderful story to tell to your kids
haha another victam of idiocy...that really sucks.
I hate people who bike on roads without bike lanes. Use the sidewalk, you can't keep up with the cars. YDI!
At least he seemed friendly...
#3 oh so you're saying this person deserve it for being careful in trafic?
Lol you fail.
#3- ..... are you being serious right now.... Wow. You are required to use them if 1. Your blinkers are out. 2. If you are ON A BIKE USING THE TURN LANE TO TURN LEFT..... My god. Go take driver's ed again. PLEASE.
haha funny - for all the dumbasses telling him to get a car, shut up and go green man!! haha
#25 biking on the sidewalk is illegal, so unfortunately bikes have to go on roads without bike lanes so I guess you'll just have to get over it.
To the OP, that really sucks...but it is kind of an epic high-five story for you to tell. It just sucks that you got hurt because some idiot didn't know a basic rule of the road. FYL indeed.
High 5! That has to be one crazy guy to try and high 5 a dude on a bike. I wonder what he was thinking.
" Hey is that bill, well he wants a high 5 so it must be him. Here he comes imma slam into his hand as hard as I can."
People are so stupid.
It took me an hour to finally write this (Due to a forgotten e-mail password, and an activation code).
FAIL!!!
I didnt pay much attention in drivers ed, but really? how could anyone possibly think that you wanted a high five, THEY are just straight up retarded.
FYL for sure
LMAO. That is amazing. And super-shitty.
hahahahah was it barney from how i met your mother?
"HIGH FIVE!!!!"
Somehow I imagine that would be very awesome... if done correctly. All in all, that guy is an idiot, the force from a 40-mile/hour high-five would break his wrist.
#36 - On 06/16/2009 at 3:48am by thelonelylurker
Some people are just so ignorant.
Ridiculous.
Haha reminds me of Michael Jackson in South Park.
That driver was such a moron! I hope you feel better and are able to get a new bike. FYL.
wow, #3. who uses hand signals? you're supposed to use them when you FUCKING BIKE. retard. learn to fucking understand the world and stop smoking so much judging form your retarded profile picture.
Damn thats evil and clever jaja i dont think u deserve it though, :)
I feel your pain. I also learned the hard way that cars always win. FYL and FML both.
#30, get your facts straight. Biking on sidewalks is not illegal
what a dumbass
#44 - On 06/16/2009 at 4:21am by ocean3684
He wasn't trying to give u a "high five"... More like a "Fail Five". Did the car driver give u a signal to high five you? Or did he just come up with and excuse for hitting u at the last minute.... Sounds like a cheap excuse to me.
LOL @ #15 for getting way too into it...he fucking asked for a high five and got it from the oncoming car...totally deserved it
He thought you wanted a high five?
Can someone really be that stupid?
I'm speechless.
And FYL.
That sucks but I'm sorry to say the image of the incident is hilarious.
That really sucks.
I laughed so hard (no offense).
#3, you're an idiot -.-
FYL indeed! Hope the douchebag who did that to you suffers in court! Or else, just get your homeboys after him ^_~
#51 - On 06/16/2009 at 4:50am by onigiriqueen
#12, bikes are better for the environment, and if you don't have people with you and you're not carrying a load of groceries or something then why not bike instead of drive a car? plus some people just prefer it. just because it's 2009 doesn't mean people should be ignorant of driving rules; those people should have known what the signals were, why the hell would they think the OP wanted a high five?
[/rant. dang. sorry.]
and that's awful. i was just saying earlier too how it seems like no one knows how to drive.. wish there was something you could do about that.
I try to high five people when they hand signial. I geuss you now hate my kind. Well, good luck with the healing proces. Oh, and get a car.
Sorry 'bout that.
Least I didn't drive you to the hospital, eh? Come on, not like you're hurt or anything :D
actually #43 in some places it is.
because it is here.
and #3 he deserves it for being careful? you're retarted
Sooo..the car hit you? I'm sorry I don't really understand what the end result was.
#56 - On 06/16/2009 at 4:59am by Zoa
sounds like something I would do,
Yeah guys, he should totally get a car, what a douche bag. He should be awesome like the rest of us and emit tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere all the time. Global warming isn't happening fast enough!
And it's not like cars are expensive or anything. Duh! Even a poor college grad in an entry level job can afford one if he skips out on the ramen for a few weeks.
Okay, enough sarcasm for your puny minds. If he bikes to work, he most likely lives in the city, where a car would be stupid to go faster than 30 mph on a busy main road, and a cyclist CAN keep up with that. It's as if you're shitting on a motorcycle owner.
And jeez, if you're all so stupid that you can't figure this out:
"Except on limited-access or express state highways where prohibited by posted signs,
bicyclists and moped riders have the same rights to use the public roadways as any other
drivers. They must obey the same traffic control and right-of way laws."
- Quoted from the 2009 Massachusetts driving manual.
SO WOW WHAT AN IDIOT HE IS FOR SIGNALLING JUST LIKE A CAR WOULD.
Dur dur derp derp. You all fucking fail.

#58 - On 06/16/2009 at 5:11am by jnic
good job high5 driver dude!
hahahahahaha that's RETARDED !
Lmao that sucks. And FYI guys, its healthy to ride a bike every now and then. Don't be all like "ydi, its the 21st century, get a car!". If more people rode bikes, there would be a lot less fat people. Not to mention it's way better for the environment.
Although, after this little accident, the OP is probly more inclined to drive a car from now on x)
hearing you on the "retards didn't pay attention in driver's ed" thing. jeeesus. including some of the fine folks here. dudes! look up the fucking law before you go around accusing other people of not doing the right thing. it ain't that hard. you might learn something.
and if you don't like those laws, well, by golly. i guess you'll just have to start advocating for better bike lanes for all us slowpokes who haven't caught up with your expensive, lazy fuuuuturistic ways. or feel free to buy us all hybrids, that'd be awesome.
go on, i'll wait here. see you when you get back from the dealership.
That's an awfully mean thing of that car to do. FYL indeed.
it made me chuckle though xD
Uhmmmmmmmmmmmm...fake, much?
FYL, definitely. What an idiot.
Here's to you - high 5 driver.
#67 - On 06/16/2009 at 6:31am by Shlizabeth
that's so hilarious that it HAS to be worth the broken bike. what a story!
You know, why DON'T bikes have turn signals? Some small LED signals with a small battery (they don't use much power), with a little switch on the handlebars and the job's done. It couldn't possibly cost that much, either.
I've just googled it: they do exist!
#69 - On 06/16/2009 at 6:43am by musu
imagine the driver :
"I'm gonna make this high five legen(wait for it)dary! High five bitch!"
Upon seeing what happened:
"well, not exactly what I have expected *a biiig bubble burst out of his head showing his hallucination, half naked girls cheering, obama standing with the medal of honor, bush being fucked behind a bush, the whole nation singing we are the champions by queen, more half naked girls, naked girls, naked horny models ...*, but well, cruuude reality dude -. - see ya !"
ahh ...
whoever was in that car was an IDIOT!!!!
#31 lol, love it...and everyone who said the OP should get a car is probably some lazy fuck, "who hand signals these days?" umm...a person on a bike who doesn't want to get hit when he turns YDI #3
that person driving was clearly some idiot who doesn't know what the hand gestures are for turning, but it still made me laugh ^_^ sorry about that OP lol
when you are biking you have to do hand signals.
That succks OP that an idiot didnt know the hand signals.
I hope the driver paid for everything. I'm thinking they might've known that they were hand signals, and they just decided to put their head up their ass for the day.
To everyone saying, "Get a car," I'm pretty sure everyone knows that bikes are more environmentally friendly then a car. Plus, the OP is getting exercise, which is even better then letting an engine do all the work for you. Personally, if a driver can't understand how hand signals work and how to drive around pedestrians, they shouldn't be driving.
Also, people with motorcycles sometimes use hand signals too, so shut up about who uses them anymore.
What is annoying though is when bikes use the car lanes instead of the bike lane when everyone knows they can't keep up with the traffic.
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE IDIOT!! the bastard could have killed you!!! at least you're alive
Lol you got ran over by the Todd
#78 - On 06/16/2009 at 7:37am by Virtuoso
lmfaoo that was exactly what i was thinking!
Unfortunately, in many areas is *is* illegal to bike on the sidewalks, it's just rarely enforced. I bike a lot for exercise and for light transportation, and I've ended up using the sidewalks after many close encounters and a collision with careless, ignorant drivers.
You really have no protection against a huge hunk of steel when you're on a bike, and I'd rather pay a ticket than be crippled for life. I've yet to have an officer approach me (then again, I do kind of look like a little girl...), but I consider it a form of civil disobedience.
I respect the OP for following the law though. Also for using a bike as transportation for an everyday need such as getting to work. Unfortunately, where I live, biking to work would usually mean arriving a sweaty mess, covered in sunblock since I burn easily.
I truly hope that the driver who tried to high five the OP was arrested. Perhaps for attempted vehicular manslaughter? If you think I'm exaggerating, try playing out the scenario in your head a few times. Someone strikes a law-abiding bicyclist in the middle of a busy intersection. He is thrown from his bike, under the tires of the car next to him. Seems very likely, and anyone should know that hitting him would cause him to wipe out, otherwise they are completely incompetent to be behind the wheel of a potentially deadly car.
Too many people treat driving like it's a game, and it has cost too many of my friends their lives.

Its a lot better than you being in 2 pieces.
#76 is correct. I don't have a bicycle, but I have several motorcycles. CAR DRIVERS are such CLUELESS IDIOTS that I have learned to use BOTH the blinkers AND hand signals so I can get through their THICK SKULLS that I am here and that I want to make a turn.
I have seen cars behind me TAKE A NOSE DIVE when they suddenly fucking realize that I'm there.
It's not the OP that is clueless. It's the idiot in the car (who had to be the passenger to high-five a cyclist).
Bicycling on the sidewalks is illegal here (Missouri, reinforced by city ordinances as well).
I think #69 is onto something, though. Blinkers on a bicycle would make that bike MUCH more visible, keeps both of your hands on the bars, and would make cage drivers (that's cars/SUVs for you non-riders) deal with the fact that they have to SHARE THE FUCKING ROAD!
WE HAD ROADS FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS BEFORE WE HAD CARS, PEOPLE!
YDI for being misleading.
haha that guy is a fucking idiot.
oh, because .. you know..
that's the kind of thing you'd do.
randomly stick your hand out the window in an attempt to hi-5 people while driving.
yeah, ofcource.
#12, maybe if more people took their bike to work instead of drove a short distance like a lazy ass, we'd have less fat people and gas would be cheaper. Shut up.
Here, it is illegal to ride bikes on sidewalks, but there is usually a bike lane next to the road. But then again, Portland is trying to go for this whole "greenest city in America" shit.
But, someone correct me if I'm wrong, if there is a pedestrian in the road, they are to go against the traffic in that lane, not with it?
Oh and, "Remove head from sphincter then drive."
:D
#43 Yes, it is illegal depending on where you live. In most cities it is because you risk injuring pedestrians.
#78, EPIC WIN.
ride on the FUCKING sidewalk.
it is so annoying to watch out for bikers on the road. the roads are for cars, those bikers are selfish. YDI.
My guess is the people saying "get a car" (like #12 and 53) don't exactly care about the environment. They're probably the ones who vote for offshore drilling and cutting down all the forests and think that there's no such thing as global warming, it's just something the hippies made up. That also being said, they obviously don't know what exercise is either if they never get out of their cars, because personally I'd much rather walk the 30 min to work than drive it simply for the exercise. My guess is these guys are fat lumps who go to drivethru fast food b/c they're too lazy to get out of their precious cars, then sit on the couch all night drinking beer. Hope it's fun.
OP, I hope you got at least part of the license plate so you can report them and get them to pay.
I actually joined this site because of this one. FYL for sure. I'm still laughing about it.
you deserved it... there is a sidewalk for a reason... just because you put your hand out doesn't mean anything you still have to look. you bikers make me so angry.
#8 & #12- Not everyone HAS to drive a car ALL the time. It's harder on the environment, uses more resources, and creates more traffic. It's attitude's like yours that are going to make this Earth a barren wasteland before we know it.
YDI for biking not only on the street -- but in the traffic portion. At least bike on the edge, out of traffic, and pay attention!
3-you have to use handsignals-it's the law
12-just because it's 2009 doesn't mean everybody drives a car-a bike is Eco-friendly and you don't have to pay for gas
OP-that sucks!!!!!!
I rofl'd.
#99 - On 06/16/2009 at 10:09am by rayrayy
WTF? How stoned was that guy?
#12 - Yeah, it's 2009, and bikes still exist. It's not the OP's fault some idiot didn't know the hand signals, or that some biker would want to high-five a driver.
FYL for hand-signaling. It's not the 1950's anymore, buddy.
#90 (funsize003): You're an idiot. It is ILLEGAL to ride a bike on the sidewalks in many areas, and driver's education (something you wouldn't know shit about) teaches you about watching for and respecting the rights of bikers on the road.
I see you're a female, which makes me think you're probably the type of person that would be like that woman that ran into and killed a motorcyclist at a stop light because she was putting makeup on or some such stupidity. It is your responsibility to share the road with all vehicles, no matter how many wheels or how they are powered.
#102 (right above me): Wow you're dumb. Go jump off a cliff and do the world a huge favor.
you are an asshole as well. where I live, there are sidewalks everywhere, and it is perfectly legal to ride on them. so that is the experience I have had, and people ride right in the middle of the road. So for me to have to trail behind a biker who is going slowly in the middle of the lane when there is too much traffic in the opposite direction, is just ridiculous.
and yes, I went to drivers ed, and I am probably a better driver than you.
and telling people to jump off a cliff is not funny. there is no humor in that, suicide isn't a joke.
you're an asshole in every aspect.
#210: Shut up and make me a sandwich. I ride in the middle of the lane in slow moving traffic because like hell if I'm going to run around in people's blind spots. Drive off a cliff.
#246 - On 06/30/2009 at 1:17pm by elfuzzo
this is horrible and still very funny (sorry)
FYL for sure... people on bicycles are leading the way for low carbon footprint/ fiscal responsibility / resource conservation.
I hope he helps more ppl learn to be considerate to cyclists.
Btw, im not a huge advocate for biking, I just have alot of respect for them
FYL, you didn't deserve it at all! Oh and for people are giving him grief for signaling, you should be thanking him! How else will you know if he's turning right or left, especially when you're in a car! And for everyone else who are saying for him to drive a car, maybe he doesn't have one. Maybe he's not old enough to drive, or maybe he's just wants to save money to not have to buy gas. Or who knows, maybe he's doing us all a favor and not putting more pollution in the air!
I'm not surprised that something like this would happen, people are just retarded
90, you're an idiot. Bikers are not 'selfish' because they choose a different kind of transportation. Morons like YOU are selfish for thinking that other people should always make YOUR life easier and look out for YOUR best interest. And paying attention to the road and what/who is driving on it is part of your responsibility as a driver. So man up or shut the fuck up.
#8 and 12: a bike is healthier for you.
What an idiot (the other guy, not you) I hope you're ok.
Even if he wasn't on a bike, people have to use hand signals for other things to.... A lot of peopel drive with a broken tail light and it's annoying as fuck to try to watch them switch lanes. And what an idiot to think that you wanted a "High Five".... FML I hope your bike gets fixed...
FYL! I can't believe people are saying ydi. :/ Wtf was the driver of that car thinking?
In many places it is ILLEGAL to ride on the sidewalk (I think here it's if you're over 12 years old) and why the hell do they deserve it for using hand signals? Wouldn't you be pissed if the car in front of you went to turn without an indicator on?
i ate when people ride their bikes in the street. so much.
#114 - On 06/16/2009 at 10:40am by tre3s
Bicyclists are not "pedestrians". "Pedestrian" means that you're *walking*.
This can quickly turn into a counter-rant about bicyclists who don't think they need to obey traffic laws, but think they can ride all over the middle of the road and do whatever they want, but I think I've made the point.
Drivers should share the road, and cyclists should obey the laws. To the OP: FYL. I have no idea what the idiot in the car was thinking.
oh god you people need to shut up about "the driver is such an idiot! he never listened in drivers ed"
he probably just thought, "Hey i'm gonna high five that biker and it is gonna be epic!"
and then just got too close, or was going too fast.
all in all, i say this is an epic victory. i would absolutely love to see this happen.
OP, sorry to hear about your bike, but GFY for actually doing what you're supposed to on the road despite getting fucked over by an idiot for it.
Even as a cyclist myself, I think I can understand where some of the anti-cyclist sentiment floating around this comment thread comes from. Despite bicycles on sidewalks being illegal in most places and that cyclists are not quite "pedestrians" (as #115 pointed out), I think cyclists tend to get treated as closer to "pedestrians" than "drivers" by the authorities, and as such, they get busted for moving violations on their bicycles as frequently as a pedestrian might get cited for jaywalking, which hardly ever happens in most places. So, while cars are expected to share the road with cyclists, go around them, etc, there's sort of a double standard when it comes to holding them accountable for when they break the law, and that can create some resentment.
The OP, who actually signalled his turn, is an example of somebody acting the right way and obeying the law. Much props.

#117 your post was rather confusing until I realized GFY meant Good For You and not Go Fuck Yourself. O.o
For all the retard with the get a car comment, never heard of polution?? Ntw fyl lol
that is awesome
once in a lifetime opportunity
sorry to hear about your scratches/cuts and your bike though
i'll vote an FML for you
Ahhahahhahahahaa.
Best. FML. EVER.
#3
All I have to say is....EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO DRIVE A CAR WITHOUT CRASHING!
#3 YD to get your brain taken away....if it already hasn't been revoked!
Where is biking on the sidewalks illegal?
hahaha omg this is epic!
#123 - On 06/16/2009 at 11:16am by Person_Man
For those of you who said get a car....get a life, seriously. Bikes are healthier for you and better for the environment. As a cyclist you have to use hand signals.
And for those of you who said use the sidewalk, that's what it's for. In MANY states it is illegal to bike on the sidewalk. Yes, most police officers don't enforce it, but it is illegal.
OP, That really sucks. The driver is obviously an idiot. You should sue them. FYL
Too many negative votes, comment buried. Show the comment.
News flash! You are on a bike! Stop playing in traffic!
YDI.
# 3 your a dumb ass
if you don't use hand signals especially when your ON A BIKE
it is so hard for all the drivers around you
they don't know where your going and when your gonna take a turn etc.
and for the OP man that sucks, id have the driver pay me hundreds of dollars for that one
#126 - On 06/16/2009 at 11:19am by hockey87
I hope you got his insurance number, i'd be furious!
#116 is probably right, the driver/passenger knew the what the OP was doing, but thought it would be funny. You ever notice how much stupid shit goes down because of the words "I thought it would be funny"?
Hope you got a license plate number, stupidity needs to be discouraged.
This is exactly why I'm terrified of riding my bike anywhere nowadays. What people don't understand is cyclists must share the left turning lane with autos. OP was in the right, using hand signals for his left turn. The driver is an idiot and should have his license revoked.
haha, what a dumbass (the driver)
fyl, OP.
#130 - On 06/16/2009 at 11:28am by KayOh
lol
ah I love it when these fmls are hilarious
I live on a college campus where drivers are always shouting at bicyclists to stay on the sidewalk, which is illegal. At the same time, a ton of bicyclists don't bother to follow traffic laws, especially one way streets and stop signs. I've seen bicyclists on sidewalks that can barely ride a bike and I'm glad they aren't trying to maneuver through traffic, but they're most definitely a danger to pedestrians as well. I've also seen bicyclists headed toward large charter buses on one way roads with zero room to pass by and the bicyclist expects the charter bus to give right of way to them. That's just a taste of what I've seen and I fully understand the frustration of drivers and pedistrians alike towards bicyclists, but when someone is following all the rules, don't give them crap about it.
As a cyclist who obeys the rules of the road, it infuriates me to see other cyclists blatantly ignore them. Bicycles belong on the road, but if you aren't going to obey the laws then get off the bicycle.
#247 - On 06/30/2009 at 1:22pm by elfuzzo
#3... any biker with half a brain uses hand signals... of course, not many of them do =(
any biker with a full brain doesn't use signals, and moves as quick as possible while looking around.
And this is exactly why bikes shouldn't be allowed on the road. Stay on the sidewalk where you belong.
Just imagine how awesome this story would have been should he have suceeded. The seas themselves would have split in twain!
That's horrible. Cyclists take so much shit. I'm sorry!!
#3-No, you're the one who deserves it. Hand signals are one of the most basic things you're taught in driver's ed. It's the car driver's fault for not knowing them.
Most of the time when I'm biking I'm going at least 20-25mph...Not really safe to be traveling that fast on the sidewalk is it?
#25, riding on the sidewalk is illegal. and you need to move to the middle of the road to make a left turn anyways. It doesn't have to do with bike lanes at all.
#122, I know it's illegal in California.
Bicyclists irritate me beyond belief. There's no reason to bike on the road, it's a safety hazard to both the biker and the driver. Okay, so straight roads with a MPH of 40 and below is fine, but highways? Really? It's so dangerous trying to swerve around bikers who feel they can ride outside of the line to in the middle of the right lane side by side.
Thanks for the High 5 idea! Though I think I'm just going to spank the next biker I see next time I'm riding shotgun :)
OH and to piss you all off even more (talking about how riding on the sidewalk is illegal and impractical), it's much easier to swerve around a person with a bike than a car. Also, there are minor injuries as opposed to the LIFE LONG and/or THREATENING ones.
BAHHAHA. That sucks you were hurt, but that's classic.
Wow some people are clueless.
#3 you're a dumb ass, it's not the guys fault, it's the driver's fault. Wow, that guy's stupid, hope you got his license plate, you can get him to pay.
I love how so many people are having troubles envisioning this. You're turning left, a driver in a car coming at you decided to rail you with a monster high five, right? What I want to know is - Did you keep your hand up, nail the high five and bust? OR did he hit you with his car, etc.
Anyways, FYL for sure, and everyone saying OMF GET A CAARRRR obviously still live with their rich daddies. GFY for hand signalling, and for being brave enough to compete with cage drivers these days. So many people are too stupid to breathe on their own, yet they still get their drivers licences. As an avid motorcyclist, I've seen some serious dumbshit happen and I CAN keep up with cars and compete much better than a bicyclist could. I hope you're okay and that the driver at least stopped to make sure you weren't dead.
@ Everyone saying YDI - What the shit is wrong with you? The OP was obeying laws and rules of the road, some idiot nails him and it's HIS/HER fault??? That's stupid. Haul your heads out of your asses and realize that you're not the only person on the road, and everyoned doesn't have to go out of their way to make sure YOUR driving experience is as easy and comfortable as humanly possible. OP HAD to be on the left side of the road as he/she was turning LEFT. Woulda been a LOT stupider to try to turn left from the biking lane (if any), as they're usually on the RIGHT side of the road. Share the road and stop being retards.

#144, there can be major injuries if bikes ride on sidewalks too. Unless you expect them to only go 5 mph...
When I rode my bike to school, I still used the sidewalk because I didn't feel safe riding where there wasdno bike lane, no one was on the sidewalks, and thorns in some places would give me flat tires.
The only people who are getting pissy at bicyclists are probably fat lards who don't feel like getting a bike of their own. They're good for the environment and healthy for you. Plus it's less likely to cause long-term damage if you run over someone. xD
And OP, I hope the bastard at least stopped.
Well you can't leave someone hanging, that's just good manners.
NO NO NO NO NO!!!! Do not listen to the people telling you to get a car!!!! SAVE THE EARTH!!!!!!!
you just dont see that friendly side of people anymore.
and i agree with # 151, keep riding that bike!
If the planet get's too polluted we all die... then given 10k years the earth is restored to it's former glory and there is virtually no sign that we were ever here.
It's a win win! =D
So, all you tree huggers... get a car, shut up, and pretend you're saving the planet.
let them get hit by my huge v8 suv. natural selection at it's best.
drivers in America are so ignorant! move here, to Amsterdam.. we all cycle.
Everyone who's saying YDI, you are ignorant morons. 148 has it right, if you're on a bike and you're turning left you can't stay in the bike lane which is on the right side of the road. As someone who just got doored a couple days ago by some stupid moron in a taxi who wasn't paying attention, I totally feel for you. OP was probably in the left turn lane, STOPPED, waiting for the light to turn green, which is when the car probably passed him and pulled that brilliant stunt. it's very possible that he could have been flung into oncoming traffic and been killed, which is probably why his bike is in 2 pieces.
In Chicago, where I live, it is illegal to ride on sidewalks. To everyone saying that riding on the sidewalk is easier and safer, when you live in very crowded cities, there are hundreds of people milling around on the sidewalks that make it so impossible to get through that you might as well walk because you are going so slow. Also people are stupid and don't get out of the way for you.
Cities really need to work on making the bike lanes more prominent and safer to navigate, because as of right now there is really no part of the road that bikers can claim as their own. I agree that lots of times, bikers don't ride safely and don't obey the rules, but i think a lot of that has to do with the fact that there is no place for us to ride safely at our own pace.
Also, 103, i appreciate your argument, but let's not be sexist, mmkay?

Best FML ever. That guy deserves a metal hahaha
lollz....i hope ur fine now!
#30 indeed it is illegal. i don't follow it though all the time, because the roads are narrow. i even biked on the sidewalk when there were cops there, they didn't even look at me xD but yeah, it's definitely not the OP's fault #25 is just stupid
Nice comment #58 xD
Anyways, that really sucks. FYL.
and for those saying to get a car. why don't YOU buy it for us? since you seem to have all the money in the world. cars are expensive, and some of us can't afford it, sorry! selfish losers
hahaha people REALLY need to stop taking everything so seriously.
Haha wow he tried to give u a high five?thats funny
Fuck you #3 he's on a freaking bike. i should ram you with my car while you're riding your trikke up a hill. then let's see who deserved it.
FAIL FIVE!
Honestly, it's pretty funny. I'd totally try to high five someone on a bike or another car if it was decided on by both parties. However in this case, you seemed unaware.
Props for using your hand signals. No one in this fucking city does, drives me nuts. They want to share the road, but don't want to follow the rules. Ugh, it's annoying.
best FML i've read in a while.
but seriously, FYL for sure.
wow... and I thought I was the only one who would have jumped for a high five o_o
Lolziessss @ 71
Hahahahahaha
And that sucks, I could only imagine what was going through that guys head as he approached you. FYL
Wut kinda retarded dumbass would try to do that in a car on the road?! Wow, I'm sorry but that's messed up, shoulda got a good look at the car for a nice fat lawsuit on any medical bills and then some! 3:)
You're lucky the dumbass didn't break your wrist. High speed high 5s are a world full of ouch..
wow that other guys dumb as shit
To everyone saying that getting a car is too expensive, well then walk or ride the bus. There you go cheap transport and you don't have to annoy people in cars.
Holy. Fuck ne1who says the OP derserves it IS a douche! FYL
That driver is stoooooooopid. xD
Unless he really WAS just doing it for "teh lulz".
In which case, he's still stupid for trying it, but now a little more stupid for thinking it would work. xDD
Hope you get a new bike soon, mate.
hahahaha
this cracked me up,
the stupidity of some people amazes me
sorry about your bike though :(
HAHAHA shaun pande this is hysterical!!!
this is evan by the way.
#58 right on! And all you "get a car" people.....shut the hell up, you're retarded. Possibly the OP isn't old enough to drive....? hmmm maybe. I rode a bike for 2 years until i could AFFORD to buy a car....because my current one was not running well, AND not all of us want to drive gas guzzlers and further f-up the air. Good for you for actually using signals! hope you can get another bike!
Anyone that says "YDI" here is a moron.
Definitely a FYL, since that DRIVER was a dumbass and nearly killed someone.
Hahaha #13.
Aww I'm sorry, that driver is an idiot.
But I just can't stop laughing..
wow...hope you feel better soon, and that driver is a fucking dumbass
1) why in the world were u biking on a lane opposite to the flow of traffic? thats illegal. ydi
2) that driver is an idiot, veering over just for a high five...fyl
i think this was a complete fyl though
#185 / ziqi92: The OP wasn't biking opposite to the flow of traffic. It was an oncoming car in the next lane over that veered over so the idiot driver could "high five" the OP.
So yeah, it's pretty much a complete FYL.
Ouch! Sorry!

Now that the states show this story makes SO much more sense.
i totally agree with the last thing that 158 said
bikers on the road are really annoying, but honestly its not their fault
i mean its not like you can get mad at them for following the law
roads/sidewalks really need to be better equipped to handle bikes.
it should be decided which one is safer and then have a lane made for biking
and i know bike lanes exist, but really, they don't have many of them
i know when i ride my bike i get extremely nervous on some roads
People like that are the reason I always use hand signals while biking. Of course, thats if you count the finger as a hand signal.
Yay for retards! I'd've made certain to 'accidentally' throw my bike at him. That's why I ride a motorcycle with turn signals instead of a bike.
biking on sidewalks = illegal? well then im a proud ass law breaker lol
#78 I love you. So very much.
"Bike Five!" *WHA-PSHHHHH*
FYL though dude =/
Hope the fucker paid for a new bike.
All the people saying OP should get a bike can fuck off. Not everyone has the luxury of being able to drive a car, and what if OP isn't old enough to drive in the first place?
Besides, bike = infinity mpg
yah... I cycle too and i worry about when i ride and use hand singles if anyone knows wtf they are
what a dumbass driver.. poor you :(
This one literally brought TEARS to my eyes!! LMFAO!!!
Well? Did you get the high-five or not?
sue him/her! he/she should have known that's a turning signal, not a wave (or in your case, a high five)
#202 - On 06/16/2009 at 10:07pm by imalovelover
Fucking New Jersey drivers!
Only in New Jersey...*shakes head in disapproval*
You guys do realize that different states and cities have different laws, right? In some cities, it is illegal to bike on sidewalks. In others, it's not.
New Jersey = Fail
ahaha, thats fuked but hilarious!
ouch. people need to notice that bikers exist haha. ive heard tons of stories of bikers getting hurt by vehicles intentionally. Its terrible.
that will teach you to use hand signals. but seriously, sue his ass
ok that is really mean and a dick move...but so fuckin funny. i'm sorry tho i hope you get better soon.
Im sorry but I have always had something against people that ride their bikes in the street.. You had that comin
LOL, I'm sorry but this anecdote is hilarious!
YDI, if theres no bike lanes then dont ride on the road. Bikes clog up traffic and aren't safe for either the rider or drivers. Bikes dont pay registration, so I don't believe they have the rights to share the road.
you should have expected that living in jersey.
#227 - On 06/18/2009 at 4:55pm by angel03260
That's what you get for using hand signals
(i'm from new jersey also)
1. you shouldn't be riding a bike in nj because well, it's nj and we are a crazy bunch of people.
2. i would've done the same thing hahaha
3. why the fuck would you stick you hand out like a tool?
you deserve it man.
1) Maybe he can't afford a car. Maybe he doesn't want to fuck up the planet. There's any number of reasons he'd bike anywhere, including New Jersey.
2) That's because you're either a retard or a horrible scum of a human being.
3) Someone who wants to avoid hitting someone or getting hit by someone, I'd wager.
OP: FYL. I hope you got his license plate so you can sue the living hell out of him.
that's hilarious. I would have never thought of that! thanks for the laugh. sucks though man.
All you people saying bikers should stay on the sidewalk: not only is it illegal in many places, you shouldn't do it even where it IS permitted.
I was once hit by a biker on the sidewalk. It's dangerous. Those laws are there for a reason.
Hopefully you got the dumb fucker's plates.
1) In my town, a citation for riding on a sidewalk is $40. My old roommate found that out the hard way, but given how sparse enforcement is, she's just really unlucky. An even unluckier acquaintance of mine was killed last year by a driver who ran a red light. He was crossing at the crosswalk, when he was allowed to cross, on his bike - I guess "ur stupid stay on teh sidwalk" doesn't work. Maybe because drivers who cannot be bothered with the safety of others are just dangerous?
2) I would have given this a YDI if the biker had been like most bikers in my town and totally ignored traffic rules. OP played this by the book, and some driver who, even if out of common sense, should have known that doing that was dangerous and shouldn't have done it EVEN IF the OP wanted a high five. FYL, but at least OP is still living (see first point).
3) I'm guessing the people here who feel that everyone must own a car to be OMG, like kewl!1! did not pay for their own educations. Some of us people without unlimited funds have to conserve money for, y'know, lame stuff like food, rent, and tuition. I use the bus whenever possible BECAUSE of how stupid drivers (and other bikers, for that matter) are, but the bus doesn't go everywhere. Until someone in D.C. decides that I need a "transportation bailout", I will do whatever I can to get where I need to go, and the law says specifically that using a bike is permitted.
4) In my town, bikes have to pay a $20 registration fee to park in certain areas (the ones that any sane biker wants to park in). Not doing so allows the city to take the bike, which costs $60 to get back. As such, almost everyone who owns a bike pays the registration fee. One can tell by an all-weather sticker on the bike.
5) In Colorado, knowing handsignals is required to get a driver's license. I get that it's 2009 and I guess there should be "an app for that", but it's required because bicyclists, motorcyclists, and cars that lack visible headlights (broken taillights, large trailer that doesn't have the signals and blocks the car's signals, etc.) HAVE to use them. And I, as a Colorado driver, have to know how to interpret that. I guess that's not the case for New Jersey, which explains quite a bit...

Hand Signals should be taught everywhere. This is why I don't ride my bike to get places off-post.
Glad to hear you lived through it, man. You got lucky.
Did ya get the retard's plates?
Side note: Apparently, they now make batter-operated turn signals for bicyclists. One too many morons in the world, i guess. I'd recommend it.
Oh man that must have hurt. They need to retake driver's ed.
#241 - On 06/21/2009 at 6:44pm by Q_0
Oh my god. People are such idiots these days. I'm sorry dude.
#242 - On 06/21/2009 at 10:37pm by XxInsanexX
thats just about what happened to me. my elderly neighbor asked me if i would go buy a screw driver for her. not old enough to drive i was riding my bike home with the screw driver in my hand. a driver thought it was a knife and called the police. i was pulled over by the cops and had to explain.
He shouldn't be on the road in the first place. Car drivers pay all types of fees to ride and maintain the roads while cyclist pay nothing for their bikes. And if they own a car they are paying for their car not their bike. Cyclist also cause unnecessary hazards to every day commuters. The road is for commuting not leisure or exercise. Go find a rail trail or something to sport your silly ass rash guard.... pricks. I personally like to do drive real slow behind them like im unable to pass until they pull completely off the road.
Hey, asshole, people ride bikes when they can't afford cars, when they are trying to protect the environment, or when they want to be healthy. Where I live it is illegal for bikes to be on the sidewalk, and there are few bike lanes, and even those you have to cross to turn. I know tons of everyday commuters, who commute everyday by BIKE to help keep carbon emissions low. Go educate yourself, or shut up
FYL. I hope you are making sure they pay for any associated costs.
I know this is nuts, but I'm trying to do a paper for my class on encouraging people to bike. For some reason your FML keeps running through my head when I'm trying to come up with illustrations on why people bike.
If you'd be willing to share your experiences and reasons for being a biker, both positive and negative, I'd really appreciate it. allisonsclass@live.com
thanks!
haha sorry but that is fucking awesome!!!
#252 - On 07/14/2009 at 8:58pm by heather_xxo
wow the person trying to highfive was stupid but who the hell uses hand signals on bike
Anyone who wants to not get killed learns hand signals. If you PAID ATTENTION, you'd notice that a lot of motorcyclists use them too. I used hand signals today because it was rush hour, I was on my motorcycle, and in the afternoon sun, blinkers (which I ALSO used) are sometimes washed out by the sun.
In short, you stay alive on two wheels by being highly visible. Hand signals increase visibility, even if you don't know what they mean.
Share the road, peeps.
lmao what a sumbitch in the car haha if i could ride my bike to work i would but not possible where i am haha goddamnit i woulda been pissed what a shitty day
LOL I just thought of that scene from the 40 Year Old Virgin where he's riding his bike to work doing the hand turning signals.
I know it probably wasn't too good for you, but this made me lol. For a long time xD
#257 - On 10/28/2009 at 3:50pm by 0ut0fThisWorld
man if this went well this could of been a MLIA story. even though its not average and none of the stories are average anymore
Today, I was behind this guy on a bike in my Hummer. He stuck his hand out for a high five. So I gave it to him. Now the jerk is suing me for giving him a high five.
person in the car is a dumbass
FYL
