Today, all of my friends and teachers asked me what was wrong because I looked sad and tired. One kid even said that I looked like "an abused housewife the day after." I was fine. It was the first time I went to school without wearing any makeup. FML

story of my life..

#3 - On 03/07/2009 at 8:56pm by rkkitty1

lol i agree with #2. suck it up and move on.

#4 - On 03/07/2009 at 8:56pm by urie

it happens. if people don't know what your real face looks like then they will do that. I wear eyeliner everyday and one day i didn't and my mom kept bugging me all day that i looked sick.

that's why i try to avoid makeup on a regular basis. and when i do wear it, it looks special. lol

#6 - On 03/07/2009 at 9:01pm by memyselfandi

I don't get why people wear make up like, every day. Then when you don't have it you just look normal but people are so used to your painted self that all they see is a horrible/tired/beaten look.

#7 - On 03/07/2009 at 9:03pm by Aquamarine

This is why I never wear makeup. That way when you do, everyone is like, "Ooooh, you look great!"

#8 - On 03/07/2009 at 9:04pm by thebaroness1984

OMFG same thing happens to me everytime I don't wear make up! LOL

#9 - On 03/07/2009 at 9:05pm by yb4fml

Agreed with #8

#10 - On 03/07/2009 at 9:11pm by rgop

maybe that should tell you your wearing a tad tooo much make up. ew

#11 - On 03/07/2009 at 9:15pm by woohoo

This is why I never wear make-up xP

#12 - On 03/07/2009 at 9:16pm by THC

Same shit happened to me! I luv wearing my makeup. I will never stop wearing it. :)

#13 - On 03/07/2009 at 9:21pm by softbonez

All depends. If when you put on make-up it looks like Mimi Bobek and you put it on with a spray can than that may be your problem. Drastic changes would lead to the above comment.

I have to agree with #2.

If it was more for being pastie and such get a tan. That usually gets everyone to stop telling me I look like death warmed over.

#14 - On 03/07/2009 at 9:21pm by nomadxx7

Yeah, this happens to me a lot. I have black circles under my eyes, just from genetics, and if I don't wear any eye make up my eyes look a lot smaller. I just look rather tired if I don't wear make up.

#15 - On 03/07/2009 at 9:34pm by mak

That's your fault - if you didn't wear every day such heavy make-up people wouldn't wonder what the hell was wrong with you when you had none on. It's like the people who complain they can't go a day without because others tell them they look pasty - of course you look pasty, any other day you have a ton of blush on, how could you not look pasty compared to your "normal" coloring. You'd look just as surprisingly different if you painted your face purple every day for a year and then suddenly showed up for work without painting it at all - people would be asking what happened to your color

#16 - On 03/07/2009 at 9:42pm by marris

I prefer the natural look to tell you the truth. Get at me, OP.

well apparently you shouldnt do that again!

#19 - On 03/07/2009 at 9:58pm by ariboo02

Geez, wonder how long it will be before some one comments on my poor wording :D

#20 - On 03/07/2009 at 10:03pm by marris

hahaha well its because they got used to you wearing makeup

i remember i used to not wear makeup & i was fine
but when i started everyone was like "you look different"

now when i don't wear makeup they're like "you look different"

but they get used to it

& it does cover alot like blemishes & eye bags & whatnot <333
but don't feel bad ahaha happened to me at school also!

#21 - On 03/07/2009 at 10:06pm by crissycat07

I say fuck 'em. Make-up should only be worn on special occasions, or to cover up unsightly blemishes. So unless you're butt ugly and your *face* is considered an unsightly blemish on society, stop wearing make-up completely and save it for homecoming/prom/any other dance or date. Then you'll be wowing people instead of disturbing them (no offense intended).

#22 - On 03/07/2009 at 10:12pm by Amanda_Ruth

My Dad's Mother said this to my Mom when she just married my Dad and went over her house without makeup on.

#23 - On 03/07/2009 at 10:46pm by jdodson1089

you must wear a crapload of makeup

#24 - On 03/07/2009 at 10:47pm by McZeal

Agree with #6. My girlfriend rarely wears any so when she throws on a little eye liner, she looks amazing. She can also roll out of bed looking great.

#25 - On 03/07/2009 at 10:47pm by skladek

I think it's the eye makeup that does that. Some people will wear it every day, and if they don't one day, it's the first thing I notice cause it's so obvious. Their eyes suddenly look tired-ish and plain, which can often change the look of their whole face. I very rarely wear it, so when I do, I get a lot of compliments lol. Stop wearing eye makeup every day so people get used to you without it and see your real face, and learn to like it. Then you won't feel pressured to wear makeup every day to feel like you look nice, and when you do, people will wonder why you suddenly look even better than usual. Whatever other make-up you wear can come and go...if people notice it, they're looking too closely.

#26 - On 03/07/2009 at 11:12pm by PureGold

That's not an FML. That's happened to me before too, a few times.

#27 - On 03/07/2009 at 11:30pm by OutsideOfThis

I feel your pain. I'm deathly pale, and the few times I'd forget to put blush on at school people would go "You look pale. Are you sick?"

#28 - On 03/07/2009 at 11:33pm by liquidskyfire

Well. At least they care about you.

#29 - On 03/07/2009 at 11:34pm by pinkpikachu

It's probably more that they arn't used to you not looking like an orange/lightbulb/barbie.
A bit of a shock to the system if that makes sense.

Give it a week or so and people will be used to it; to much of that stuff is fake anyway; make-up hides how you really look; false impressions!

#30 - On 03/07/2009 at 11:35pm by Mattyknows

i guess they're just not used to how you look without makeup is all. not really an fml..

#31 - On 03/07/2009 at 11:39pm by interventions

this is a sign that you're wearing too much makeup everyday. maybe think about cutting it down little by little until you arrive at a reasonable amount.

#32 - On 03/07/2009 at 11:52pm by 802_CRU

Eh, I've had that happen. If it makes you feel better my mom tells me that I should never go outside without having makeup on, and that she prefers my hair to be dyed.

#33 - On 03/07/2009 at 11:55pm by mariposa93

I never wore makeup and people said I look fine. I don't know if I do wear make up they will be scared. I think its because you look different thats all

#34 - On 03/08/2009 at 12:03am by kagome_eb

haha I think this happens to a lotttt of girls. happened to me before too :P

#35 - On 03/08/2009 at 12:12am by katiebearrr

wow people. there is nothing wrong with wearing makeup.
if it's done the right way, then it can really enhance you're feature. plus its fun.

anyways, sucks this happened.
it's just better to make sure you have something on before you leave. like mascara or a bit of foundation.

dont let it get you down though!

#37 - On 03/08/2009 at 12:35am by SunnyClock

HAHA... ahem... sorry. You did technically start it. You should have never worn make-up in the first place.

#38 - On 03/08/2009 at 12:46am by ifeelsick

...
...
...
then you're probably wearing too much make up in the first place.
if your made up look and your regular face are -that- different...
...
...
i mean, i'm just sayin'...as a girl who has done theater, the only place for -that- much make up is on stage.

#39 - On 03/08/2009 at 1:11am by alchemycaptain

oh, please! you don't have to wear "way too much" make up to look different than you do naturally! this has totally happened to me before and i just wear tinted moisturizer and mascara, but without mascara my eyelashes are blonde and i look like i don't have any. something as simple as not wearing mascara can make you look tired.

and i'm certainly no fan of the overly tan, way too much eyeliner thing but what's wrong with wearing a little bit daily? most people look ALOT better with some tinted lip balm and mascara so why wouldn't they want to? you don't wanna wear any, good for you, you must be stunning as soon as you roll out of bed, but for most people, not so much. so stop being assholes.

#40 - On 03/08/2009 at 1:50am by blackmelt

haha that sucks i feel your pain my mum grounded me after she caught me drinking once so i was in my house for days & nvr wore make up. once i was allowed out & started wearing make up again she was like see you look so much brighter now i feared you were turning into an alcoholic for the past week

#41 - On 03/08/2009 at 3:08am by lalaladudodoo

22 -- " So unless you're butt ugly and your *face* is considered an unsightly blemish on society"

Damn, I LOL'd. XD

#42 - On 03/08/2009 at 3:27am by cornhobble

people always ask why i wear so much eyeliner.
then when i don't they ask why i've been crying or why i look so tired.
i went to work once without eyeliner and the kid i was working with didn't recognize me.
when my boss pointed out it was me, the kid looked at me and said, "WHAT HAPPENED???"

=/

#43 - On 03/08/2009 at 3:31am by pennylane69

Let this be a lesson to all of you: wear less makeup. If you're piling that shit on, you're not fooling anyone, and if you skip a day, people think you're beastly.

Honesty requires so much less work.

#44 - On 03/08/2009 at 3:47am by ToughLove

Oh, whatever the fuck. There's nothing wrong with wearing makeup every day. So everyone who's going "hurr, you shouldn't wear makeup at all, hurr," just... no. I wear makeup every day, because it makes me feel good, not because I'm ugly. The same reason I go out with my hair brushed and wearing nice clothes, instead of my ripped jeans and double-pluggers.

But this still isn't a FML. Happens to everyone.

#45 - On 03/08/2009 at 3:49am by plethora

It really has nothing to do with the amount of make up she wears. Eye-makeup or cover-up is usually easily noticed. It accentuates your eyes and can make your face look different. But when you aren't wearing any, people will most likely notice. I don't wear that much makeup but when I don't wear any, people always tell me I look a little tired because I have bags under my eyes that never go away unless I'm wearing a little bit of cover up. So give the sender a break.

#46 - On 03/08/2009 at 3:51am by kandy

My sis doesn't wear makeup and everyone thinks shes ugly and emo...i'm just glad they don't hear the fights at home about her takeing showers regularly...i'm a mild clean freak, i need showers...Now on the off chance she does wear makeup shes a freak! looks nothing like her normal self a whole new person one might say, so yeah makeup changes a lot

#47 - On 03/08/2009 at 4:38am by Quicky_the_Devil

Another explanation for this is that if you wear too much makeup and curl your lashes and stuff NORMALLY, it makes your skin/lashes/ etc worse. Like straightening your hair every day makes it dry and damaged. And your eyes look a lot worse with bits of mascara and eyeliner hiding int hem than they would if you'd never worn it.

#48 - On 03/08/2009 at 5:08am by texmas

Oh god - I feel your pain. I am super blond with blue eyes and it's like a Spielberg alien effect - add some insomnia and blemishes and it's just not fit for the public. When I was as young and as good looking as I ever was going to be (in high school), I went without mascara and some eyebrow powder one day and they spread a huge rumour that I was in Chemotherapy! Not out of spite, mind, a lot of people offered sincere condolences!

I'd rather wear the spackle then watch people's eyes dance around my face searching for landmarks. Just practice and remember that if you feel good, you look good - no matter what you do, do it for yourself.
:)

#49 - On 03/08/2009 at 5:39am by replica_replica

Ouch, that has to suck :/. FYL

To all the people who criticize her for wearing makeup in the first place: ever heard of personal choice? I mean, you're making something tiny into a huge issue. Some women wear makeup to feel better, some do because it makes them look better, some do because they "have" to in order to be taken seriously at their job, or because their job also involves looking classy/sophisticated, etc... You can't generalize, and this isn't "OMG SO VAIN!!". People -and probably especially women- *are* judged on their looks including on the workplace.
Also, women who use makeup don't all use TONS of it -in fact, that's a sign of having put too much of it. Good makeup has to look natural (theatre etc are a different thing).

#45: I totally agree.

#50 - On 03/08/2009 at 5:40am by Cassy

Also, I've got some news, people! When you're a teacher, people look at you all the time!

Also, maybe you can have at least some thought for women who wear makeup to camouflage e.g. extreme fatigue, depression or a medical condition. My friend who's a teacher and was -and looked- chronically fatigued because of cancer surgery and medication doesn't thank you for suggesting she was vain/stupid for using makeup to look fresh and energetic... It's also very easy to judge when you're young, healthy, good-looking etc :/

#49: Ouch, that's very awkward to say the least :/. That's some good advice, too.

#51 - On 03/08/2009 at 5:50am by Cassy

Haha

This is why being a male rocks!

#52 - On 03/08/2009 at 5:57am by Assmilk

I think that if you wear make up EVERY SINGLE DAY, of course everyone will notice when you don't wear any. And of course they will see you as pale and not looking good - they're used to make-up being your natural.

I'm not saying you're wrong for wearing make-up, but if you're giving them unrealistic expectations about your looks, don't expect them to think it's all normal when you decide to skip the make-up.

#53 - On 03/08/2009 at 5:59am by camis

#50 aka Cassy

I agree...and the funny thing is that guys all say those exact things about how women are always wearing too much makeup and how it's so ugly because when they take it off they don't look like themselves anymore...but then they walk around with girlfriends whose facepaint is clearly a mixture between "Barbie" and "Cheap Hooker"...it's ridiculous...

AND at everybody judging the OP for wearing makeup daily and not looking "natural"...there's a difference between "no makeup" and "natural"...you have no idea how much makeup you can put on and still look natural if you just know what to use and how to do it right!!! I for example have very light skin and lightbrown hair, so I use brown instead of black mascara because it doesn't look as "harsh"...

#54 - On 03/08/2009 at 6:11am by Puolukka

Go for ligher tones possibly? to match your skin/hair color like #54 mentioned. Natural is better. Wearing makeup for a long time and then without it for one day, it makes a difference to ppl's perspective. If you take off the makeup for a whole week or so, I`m sure ppl will get use to it and stop with the remarks. :)

#55 - On 03/08/2009 at 8:48am by dragon

this has happened to me too ha

#57 - On 03/08/2009 at 1:28pm by gbpackerfan16

I have to say I disagree with the popular mindset here that you shouldn't wear make up and save it only for special occasions. I wear makeup to school every day because I want to look my best all the time. My metrosexual brother expressed a similar opinion, that I should save makeup for when I want to look special. Maybe I always want to look special! I'd rather look good every day than look like shit on average.

#58 - On 03/08/2009 at 1:49pm by discoinferno

Yo. I agree with those saying maybe you shouldn't wear it every day.. But why don't you just try foundation and cover up when you don't feel like doing the whole 9 yards. That's what I do. I have literally clear skin- you can see my veins and dark circles and I just wear concealer and foundation when don't feel like putting on anything else. Just don't let it look caked on and you're golden.

#59 - On 03/08/2009 at 2:33pm by fraufrau87

thats happened to me too :(
fml

#60 - On 03/08/2009 at 2:38pm by kfamous

hahahahahahaha this is so funny

#61 - On 03/08/2009 at 2:46pm by lizrock6

it was the first time you hadn't worn make up..... people are probably just so used to seeing you with make up that it was unfamiliar to them.

kind of like if you cut your hair really drastically after having the same style forever.

#62 - On 03/08/2009 at 4:00pm by teamsquirrel

Yeahhhhh...my advice is lay off the makeup, or if it makes your skin look sallow and dull to not wear any at all, you could probably try wearing foundation. Just don't wear as much eye make up, or maybe only mascara. You'll look pretty AND more natural. And I agree and do the same as other girls on here, put make up on for maybe weekends and occasions and you'll look like a million dollars. Don't worry about it!

#63 - On 03/08/2009 at 4:01pm by thinkpink

Pauloka,

There is no difference between no makeup and natural. if you have anything at all on your face, its not natural. To be natural, you have to be natural. If you are wearing make-up, regardless of the amount or color, you aren't natural. That's why they call it make-up, not natural beauty.

Do you consider yourself to be completely nude if you are only in a bikini because you are just wearing a little bit of clothing? because thats really no different than your explanation here with how looking natural is different from wearing no makeup at all. One dab of makeup and you can no longer say you are showing your natural beauty because you just covered up your natural beauty with makeup

#64 - On 03/08/2009 at 4:49pm by marris

ok that abused housewife comment was rly uncalled for. i hate kids like that.

#65 - On 03/08/2009 at 10:09pm by dg72592

maybe you should wear less makeup then. but that really does suck.

#66 - On 03/08/2009 at 10:10pm by spiggle4

this is funny..and dumb..but still funny..how simple some peoples lives are..like really, if the worse thing that has ever happened in your life was people seeing you with no makeup then get over yourself please, and fast..or if you think its the end of the world because some one saw you with none on, you REALLY need a reality check and probably some self esteem..and im not a hater, i love make up i went to school for it.. but i usually only wear it if im going out-like OUT like to a bar or a club or to a wedding etc, but there is no need what so ever for face make up or even any eye shadow color BUT a light brown in the AM hours..PM go fucking crazy if you want to..but seriously though i went to cosmetology school and we HAD to have our hair done and make up at all times and seriously who wants to wake up extra early when you were already waking up early to begin with to put on make up..ill tell you right the trick for everyday routine now - clear skin and groomed eyebrows are really all you need and as long as your hair is done, you have some sort of regular or tinted moisturizer on and possibly some mascara youre good to go.. and you usually look 20 times better and more fresh faced..and why waste time putting on a face full of make up only to walk outside and have it be 92 degrees out..and dont fight a force that is much stronger then your can of aqua net - if its 92 degrees out or if in your area it can rain for 3 days just because, then dont count on your pin straight hair to stay curled or your curly hair to stay straight..stick closer to whatever your natural hair texture is..seriously having to worry about sweating/raining your face off or reapplying your eyeliner 18 times and curling your eyelashes every 20 minutes when its gross out is not worth it and doesnt pay off in the end..when you have eyeliner running down your face just from the time it takes walking from your car to your classroom and end up with your hair in a pony tail youll just end up looking a HOT MESSS ..like they say LESS is definitely MORE

#67 - On 03/09/2009 at 12:59am by alexa_rose

How has no one thought to ask why she didn't wear makeup today? Maybe she didn't get a lot of sleep and was really tired? Maybe that's why she looked tired?

Or maybe she decided not to just to try it, and felt self conscious or different as a result.

Maybe you should wear less makeup or not at all or whatever, but the best way to look better is to actually feel happy and smile more. That can do a lot more for you than any amount of makeup.

#68 - On 03/09/2009 at 4:33am by mattboehm

damn why do people waste time writing novels on these comments.. just give your 2 cents and move on, not your whole savings.

OP: sorry love, but that's what you get for wearing so much make up that it changes your face. go for more beige & brown :)

#69 - On 03/09/2009 at 6:41pm by formosababie

when i don't wear makeup i look a hot mess sometimes. and i really don't like wearing a lot of makeup but i have giant circles under my eyes and can't get rid of them, so i know your pain. people tell me i look sick and tired every time i don't wear make up.
But in all reality it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks as long as you feel good :)

#70 - On 03/10/2009 at 4:33pm by bsneeze

So put on some damn makeup

#71 - On 03/10/2009 at 5:14pm by jdpwnsyou

That happens to me all the time!!!!! :(

#72 - On 03/10/2009 at 7:21pm by samanthaljones

Once I was told I needed to go home, because I looked really sick. I wasn't wearing make-up. If I don't wear make-up, I look sick and tired too. I probably look that way, because I am sick and tired of everyone and burned out, there's only so much sexual harassment and crazy people I can take! but... I got a day off, which was nice, I guess, of course at this job I didn't get sick days, and couldn't pay my bills as it was being payed min wage. Use it to your advantage!

#73 - On 03/11/2009 at 4:12am by 31Problems

Same here. I feel I need to wear makeup to look normal, but that doesn't include ANY eye makeup, blush or stuff like that. I seem to have a reddish skin tone and dark circles around my eyes even though I sleep at least 8h/night.

#74 - On 03/11/2009 at 1:25pm by CallMeClover

ooh.. if it helps, that would happen to me too if i didnt wear makeup.

#75 - On 03/11/2009 at 9:51pm by ohwowthatsucks25

#67, you don't need to write a novel... some people aren't naturally beautiful like you probably are, and need to wear makeup daily to feel confident. also, its an FML post, they're not supposed to be the most horrible thing that's ever happened to anyone. chill out.

#76 - On 03/11/2009 at 9:53pm by ohwowthatsucks25

#11 said it all.

#77 - On 03/12/2009 at 3:02am by Jareth

ya... been there, done that.... I'm fair skinned and blonde... I look like I have no eyelashes and no circulation if I skip makeup totally (I don't wear tons... usually just grey eyeliner, mascara, blush, and gloss) so ALWAYS wear at least a bit of mascara and subtle blush when I go in to work. There are a couple times I've had to run out the door to work without... And at least one coworker will ask me if I'm sick when that happens....

#78 - On 03/12/2009 at 3:33pm by blairf83

thats why you shouldnt wear makeup.
causes wrinkles and makes you look older when you take it off..

#79 - On 03/14/2009 at 9:19pm by sasquatch_223

I hardly ever wear make up. I look weird when I do, most of the time (I have next to no experience with application).

Augh...

#81 - On 03/16/2009 at 6:43pm by AlisonMarie

oh my goodness that happened to me too! i was on my way to the school bathroom to apply my makeup and a kid who was by the front door of the school saw me and was like "WHOAH.. are you okay?" then my friend yesterday said "hey how are you" and makeup-less i said "kinda tired" and he said "YEAH.. i can see that." fml lol

well, why did you go to school without makeup on??

#84 - On 03/25/2009 at 7:43pm by summer66

Maybe you shouldn't rely on makeup, then.

#85 - On 03/29/2009 at 8:31pm by konekohotaru

they are just not used to seeing you without makeup. i never wear makeup.

#86 - On 04/03/2009 at 1:39pm by bhrooke

the more makeup you wear when you're younger means you have to wear just that much more when you're old otherwise you look like a bucket of wrinkles. have fun with that!

#87 - On 04/07/2009 at 2:27am by bucketgirl

Why are you all so fucking stupid?
Did she SAY she wears alottt of makeup-- um NO. Don't just go and assume she goes out in public looking like a drag queen.. it's not even that serious.. there was probably just a teeny difference and it was noticed cause people pay too much damn attention
