Today, I got a client who ordered ice cream. She seemed really nice and I thought maybe she was into me. When I asked if she wanted peanuts for an additional 0.50 cents, she said no. Trying to be nice, I added them anyway free of charge. I later had to call the ambulance. She was allergic. FML

I used to work at Coldstone, and customers were supposed to inform the employees of a food allergy. Our policy is to tell the customer that we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment, but that we will do our best.
What I don't understand is why she didn't say something about her allergy, especially when the guy asked her if she wanted peanuts. Peanut allergies can be deadly, and there is a risk of contamination if you don't take extra precautions.
However, that doesn't make this her fault. If a customer says they don't want nuts, then they don't want them. You don't give them nuts anyway, moron.
People keep mentioning in the comments that she should have noticed the nuts. Now, if they were sprinkled on top and she missed them, then that is stupidity on her part. But if the nuts were mixed in, they might not be visible at first.

Some people don't even have to eat peanuts to have a reaction. Some people are so highly allergic that just being in the same room (or having peanuts in front of them, say in a bowl of ice cream) as peanuts can cause a severe reaction. I've actually worked with a boy where this was the case.

Simply the case of being in the room with peanuts increases the chance of more direct exposure and is furthered by additional complications which have to do with lung intake but far from a necessity or by itself in an average room unlikely. However your case may be easily be true but does not apply to a significant portion of peanut allergic people as denoted by the word choice some.

You deserve it for unilaterally deciding that the order the customer placed is not what you should deliver.
Think of it as a contract. When a customer places an order and you accept their money, your duty is to provide precisely what was specified in the order. If you are unable or unwilling to do so, then do not accept the money.
On a side note, it also really grinds my gears when fast food people think they're doing you a huge personal favor in remaking something correctly that they've screwed up and you have to bring back. It was "no mayo" when you took the order--why should I be impressed by your "generosity" in making a mayo-free replacement sandwich now?

Anyone over the age of 17 that works in a fast food restaurant doesn't want to make your sandwich the first time, let alone again. You obviously aren't very nice about it, either.
Mistakes happen when people are expected to make about 60 sandwiches per hour. If the people are willing to quickly correct their simple mistake, then you should at least TRY not to be an unsympathetic jerk about it.

Also, most people are usually, if not nice, then at least polite about having it... But honestly, it's not that hard. If a customer orders some insanely difficult order, then sure, that's understandable, but most of the time it's something simple like "no mustard" or "large coke instead of medium". Stuff that is printed on the receipt that you can read.
Anyway, long-winded rant short, hush. If you don't want to make it a second time? Make sure it's made correctly the first time, or find a new job.

You should have used your common sense, OP. Firstly, just because a client's being nice doesn't mean she's "into you". Secondly, peanuts are something a lot of people are dangerously allergic to, and if she actually wanted some I'm sure she wouldn't have had a problem paying half a dollar extra anyway. Lastly, unless you work at your own business, you can't give away products just to be nice or break the ice. I know it was just a couple of peanuts, but you still shouldn't do that. YDI.

I hate when people ask "would you like to add this?" No. I ordered what I want.
First off, maybe she didn't like peanuts. Personally, I highly dislike peanuts. Why would I want them? And in ICE CREAM of all things? Ew. Giving somebody something they didn't ask for isn't nice...unless it's somebody you know really well and you KNOW they want it. Not to say it CAN'T be nice, but...in most instances, that isn't really being nice. That's just not listening to them. And secondly, seeing as it was PEANUTS, and she WAS allergic, that makes this even worse.
Just...don't. Again, there are better ways to be nice. Just listen to people, and give them what they order. Not everybody likes (or can have) what you like.
