Today, my dad had a chat with my fiancé, telling him he can do better than me, and to think carefully before going through with our wedding. FML

What's your dad's deal? Usually it's the other way around and they insist that no man is good enough for their princess. But congrats on the engagement either way.

It could have been that the dad didn't like the guy and he just used a twisted way of trying to get him to leave.

That is really not cool coming from the dad and he better not try that BS on her wedding day.

maybe he doesn't like him and he's only saying that because he thinks you can do better, you need to talk to him girl bc that's f* cked up what he said. But don't let that break you two love birds up.

It's always attacks from the FML parents.

Maybe it was a test? And your fiancé aced it.

My guess is that you are right and the only way he thinks he can end up their relationship is by saying this to OP's fiancé.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. I agree with #28

Her dad talking to the fiance shouldn't even matter. Why would they be engaged if they weren't truly in love? Then again sometimes people get married for money but I don't think that applies here

Instead of scaring away the guy. Maybe the father is lying trying to get the BF to leave by saying he could do better.

This guy clearly is trying to break up their relationship while bashing on his own daughter. He definitely DOES NOT know best!

What if secretly your dad just doesn't want you to get married?

I don't think it's much of a secret.

If he really loves you, he won't leave you. If he leaves because of this, he probably doesn't love you and you should find somebody who does, and not marry him. So, this is basically just preventing a bad marriage for the both you.

I agree 100%. My boyfriend went through this 4 years ago with his mom and thankfully he didn't listen. Sometimes parents think they know best but really don't.

It is possible that the dad is testing the fiance's dedication to his daughter, although in a less than pleasant manner.

That's out of line. I hope you confronted him.

He should be telling you that you're too good for your fiancé. Not the other way around

Plot twist: Your fiancé is cheating on you with your dad and he wants them to run away together. But seriously that's a dick move…
