Today, my doctor asked me how often I drink, and I responded, "Socially." My three-year-old piped up, "No Mom, you drink all the time." My doctor now thinks I'm a raging alcoholic. My kid has never seen me drink. FML

OP here. Some of these comments crack me up, but thank you for the chuckle. My daughter is the light of my life and truly has a sense of humor and intelligence beyond her short 3 years. I appreciate the support of most and I am happy to have this to share with her as she gets older.

Yeah the kid probably thought the doctor meant water

I'm surprised that a 3 year old understands what "socially" means in that context.

Yay for your doctor not realizing that 'drink' may not imply 'drink alcohol' to a small child.

I seriously doubt that he/she actually did understand the word "socially". The kid probably just heard "drink" and threw in two cents like kids do.

Given that the kid likely doesn't know that meaning of the word "drink", you should be glad about his/her insistence on honesty. Or mad because s/he won't help you "lie"? Regardless, the doctor has probably heard worse things from patients' kids and spouses.

Yes, but the kid actually said "no" so it seems like she actually knew that her mom was saying she didn't drink often. I am probably just over thinking things.

At least he didn't call Child Protective Services on you.

What is a man's idea of a balanced diet? A Budweiser in each hand!

The same thing happened to me at the doctor with my 2yr old! The doctor asked how much I drink and I truthfully answered; maybe 1 time a month, and my 2yr old piped up saying "Nu uh! Mom you drink everyday, you drank on the way here!" Awkward silence, Doctor asked my daughter "hows does that make you feel?" and my daughter replied "Well, i only don't like it when she doesn't share" Turns out she thought "drink" meant literally "to consume a liquid beverage" which is understandable for a child, cleared it up with the doc and now he brings it up at every appointment, its one of his favorite stories

For people who thumbed me down by obviously not thinking it's possible for a doctor to realise someone drinks too much, maybe you should look up the visible and invisible effects (that can be discovered by said doctor) of drinking abuse...
