Today, I lost my job because I was late. I was late because I had no alarm. I had no alarm because my roommate got mad and broke my phone when I beat her at scrabble. FML

Maybe OP thought she'd wake up in time for work out of habit. I always wake up about five minutes before my alarm, but if I don't have it set, I oversleep. OP could be the same way. Or, OP was too dumb to ask her roommate if she could borrow her phone to use as an alarm clock and too broke to go buy a new alarm clock.
