Today, I have pink eye. Four weeks ago I had scabies. I'm an elementary school teacher, and I'm apparently under attack from biological weapons: my students. FML

Op here....unfortunately, many kids don't come from homes that are clean and hygienic. That's especially true in economically disadvantaged homes, from which most of my kids come. Some I can tell don't bathe or wash their clothes regularly. Yes, this is my first year. Many teachers said they had similar experiences starting out.

I think you should shower now twice everyday and get all kinds of vaccines

Usually if a kid is sick in some form aside from a common cold they stay home...at least that's what I am used to...get well soon OP

You must be a new teacher. It's very common for new teachers in their first year or two to get sick often until their immune system adjusts.

You should have realized the risk when you choose this career. I wouldn't say you deserve it, but you should have expected it. Sadly FML does not have a "you should have expected it" button :/

Sure you expect to get sick but scabies? That is not a common childhood illness and it is awful.

I got laryngitis from my students. Children are disease carrying biohazards

Little terrors will infect you with everything. :/ Good luck.

scabies really sucks. I picked it up and got rid of it only for my brother to bring it back to me

I've taught high school for almost 15 years and I've had pink eye, lice and various diseases numerous times. I've also had to report parents to DCFS for child neglect because of some of these issues. Good luck! Despite all of the hassles and frustrations it really is a rewarding profession. As long as you can see past your oozing eyes...

How much do you get paid OP?

I feel your pain. This is my boyfriend's first year of teaching first graders, and thus far his crowning achievement on the disease tree has been mononucleosis. Not fun.

this is my fist year at an elementary school, and I have to say that some experiences like these have happened to myself as well, on the most part its our jobs and that what we signed up for ahah
