Wow, thanks, I'm cured
Today, I vented to my friend about how unhappy I am and how I want to kill myself. What did she say? "Don't do that." That was it. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I opened up to my best friend about my depression. Her response: "If you're so depressed, why don't you just kill yourself?" FML
Today, I told my mom I loved her and she asked if I was going to kill myself. FML
Today, I was feeling suicidal and needed to talk to someone about it, so I called up the only person in the world who cares about me: my mom. Or so I thought. Her immediate response was, “You should go ahead and end it.” FML
Today, I was accidentally rude to a customer and she told me to kill myself. My boss came over, told me that she agreed wholeheartedly with the customer, and then said, "I have no idea where you got this delusion that anyone would be sad if you died." FML
Today, my best friend of 10 years blocked me for no reason. When I went to her house to ask why she did it and apologize for whatever it was, she told me to kill myself and slammed the door. I still don't know what I did. FML
Today, my friend needed to talk out bad feelings. Then she urged me to open up as well. I hate doing it, but it only seemed fair, so I confessed my deep insecurities. Not only did she agree with everything, but she also helpfully added that I'm boring, have no life, and all my dreams are unattainable. FML
Today, I told a girl that I liked her. She replied, "Don't." FML
Today, I told my mom that I'm bulimic and have been for a few years, and that I needed help. She responded by saying, "Well that's clearly not working for you. Why don't you try anorexia?" She then patted me on the head, smiled, and walked away. FML
Today, on Facebook, someone wrote a status implying that she was going to kill herself. I called a mutual friend, asking to check up on her. The next status the girl puts up said, "Someone thought I was going to commit suicide! Haha what a loser!" FML
Today, after a very harsh argument from my mother about her not seeing her grandchild enough, I decided to vent out my rage in a text to my friend. It wasn't until after I sent the message, that yes, I sent that message to my mom FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?

Uhm. And what exactly were you trying to get her to say?

It's wonderful to have supporting friends, but your friends do NOT always know what to do, let alone how to react. I'd say that was fine, especially for someone who doesn't know the steps to take if you're in that depressed state. Make sure you PLEASE reach out to a suicide prevention hotline. Your feelings can be and usually are temporary or can be supported/recovered from; death is none of these. It's a serious issue where there is many outlets to receive help from; as the person above stated as well! Please seek help, you are very much worth it.

In this unprecedented times, there is more resources than ever to help you fight depression. Phone services, Zoom psychologists, ads in the subway, you name it. It's like every government agency and NGO is waiting for your call or your click. Call now!

(1) While friends and family can be a source of support, that does not mean they are qualified, able, and willing to be a psychologist. If you need help, seek professional help. If you cannot afford or do not have access to a licensed psychologist consider someone like a counselor at your school or sometimes companies have that service available (ask HR) or consider your religious leader (minister, priest, rabbi, etc) if you are a member of their congregation. (2) Nobody, at any time, ever likes being “vented on”. Don’t expect others to like being the object that you are venting on. There is a difference between seeking guidance and help verses “venting”. Venting is just being there while someone rants on. If you feel the need to “vent” try writing down your thoughts and feelings. This also helps you to organize what you are actually feeling and thinking which can help your own mental process.
