Unhappy New Year
Today, I went on a first date, only for us to find the restaurant wasn't open on New Year's Day. My date suggested going to the mall instead. We drove in our own cars. Me: the mall, him: home. I waited for 40 minutes before realising he'd stood me up. Happy New Year to me. FML

Don't worry about it. Some people are assholes but you'll find a good guy that's actually worth ur time and you'll forget all about this :)

You have no idea what could of possibly happened.

I know this is an old comment, but I HAVE to reply regardless. Should've= should HAVE (not should of)

Did you both confirm which mall? Maybe he got lost? Because that'd shitty of him to be the one to suggest it and then head home. You'd think he'd suggest another restaurant instead. Sorry OP

He's doing the D.E.N.N.I.S. system wrong. You're supposed to go to a restaurant that you know is going to be closed and then suggest getting a pizza and watching a movie at your place instead, at which point you E: engage physically.

OK, I have to know, what is that D.E.N.N.I.S. system, please?

Maybe because you use the word mall when you're from Australia >_>
newyearstandup 13
I used "mall" to make it more universal... I don't use it in conversation.
pandalover69 26
What the hell? Don't they use the word mall in most english speaking countries?
SneezyBear 27
#77 Nope. Mall is an American word. In Australia we say 'shopping centre' or 'the shops' - but usually we say the actual name of the place, like 'Northland' or 'Summer Hill' or 'Highpoint' etc.

Thanks for the support guys. To answer some of your questions.... The mall was suggested by him as we figured it was the only place we knew 100% was open. I don't think he suggested a closed restaurant deliberately. In my city it's touch and go what will be open on public holidays. We knew exactly where to meet - where all the restaurants are at the mall. And I did call and message a couple of times but received nothing back. He also deleted me from the dating site we met on. So it was a clear ditch. He knew what I looked like beforehand so dunno what it was! And we basically just had a one minute conversation so doubt I could have pissed him off in that little amount of time! Very doubtful he was in an accident. Definitely dodged a bullet I think. Hopefully this doesn't set the tone for 2015!

Ugh, I'm sorry OP. That a rotten thing to have happen to you. But that just leaves you open to meet other guys that aren't jerks! You'll find one!
KhaleesiDannie 26
Maybe he was superstitious and took the place being closed as an omen and if it was it was for you haha
kpohil 13
yep then he's just an ass

what a coward.

He's probably one of those asshole who didn't think you were hot enough. As if he deserves a straight 10.

An accident would explain why he didn't return calls and messages, but it would NOT explain him actually deleting you from the dating site. Nope, clear ditch, and all the "don't judge him!" jerks can go stand in the rain. If someone doesn't do it for you, you say, "Sorry, but this isn't working for me," and behave like an adult. You don't lie and sneak around like a toddler trying to avoid anyone finding out they snuck the last cookie from the jar.
newyearstandup 13
He wasn't. I at least would give him a chance though.
newyearstandup 13
Yeah he certainly wasn't a 10. I would have given him a chance, looks can improve based on personality I believe

I had a similar situation about a week ago. I brushed him off and moved on.

Yep just another let down of 2014 :) just kidding enjoy the new year :D

But he already knew what OP looked like from the dating site pictures, As stated above.

I would be calling that asshole and giving him a piece of my mind! how dare he treat you like that, he is such a rude and arrogant creature.
Edward862 7
that's genius. I should try this sometime.
pandalover69 26
Then you're just ******* douche bag. Enjoy the single life because if you pull that kind of shit you're gonna be single for a very long time.
GunSlinger69 19
Love how you all are quick to attack him, not even slightly assume OP could have been a terrible date..
Helldemon 32
Yes, because the roughly 30-60 seconds they would have talked to decide on another place really would have given him insight into OP's character.
blondeamazonian 18
Regardless of how poorly the date had gone, that was a douchey way to handle it. I'm not saying the guy had to stick out the whole date, but how about a "This isn't what I expected, sorry." Or something, leaving OP waiting was lame.
pandalover69 26
They didn't even have a date, didn't you read?
DarthVader77 9
Sure, he should have told you. But, I guess, he decided to spare both of you a moment of awkwardness
brewmasterg 34
The 40 minutes she spent waiting for him to show up wasn't awkward?
FlinkeMeisje 5
You mean he decided to spare HIMSELF a moment of awkwardness. Meanwhile, OP had to suffer many moments of awkwardness as she waited for him to never show up, then called and checked the app, and discovered that he had, in fact, lied and stood her up, after a "bad date" of one minute, most of which was spent in determining where to meet up. Even speed dating events give you more time than that, and they don't have you follow up by saying, "Let's meet here," and then never showing and deleting your date's information. Yeaaah, that was him being classy and deciding to "spare both of you a moment of awkwardness."
missreader 14
forget about him he is not worth it you deserve someone better.
