Today, we spent the day with my grandmother. During a family conversation, my sweet little grandmother looked me up and down, and without any hesitation said, "I remember you being so beautiful," before looking at my mother, mouthing, "What happened?" and laughing. She's 87. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I asked my grandmother what she looked like when she was young. She casually replied, "I was ugly, sweetie. Just like you." FML
Today, my grandmother said to me, "You look just like your mother did at your age. Except you're fatter of course." FML
Today, we had a group of friends over, as well as my grandma. She started talking about me when I was a kid, when I suddenly heard her saying, "Well, yeah, she wasn’t a beautiful child, not at all, she looked.… OK." FML
Today, I saw my grandmother. All of my cousins and I went to say hi to her, one by one. When I got up to her and said, "Hi grandma!", she said in Chinese, "I don't remember this one." FML
Today, my grandfather told me that I was ugly. When my mom found out, she said that, "Old people are allowed to tell the truth." FML
Today, my grandma told me that I'm starting to look like my sister. I jokingly replied, "Uh-oh I'm in trouble then." She gave me a very disapproving look and said, "You should be happy. She's beautiful, unlike you." FML
Today, my grandma and I went to visit one of her friends. The elderly gentleman told me I'd grown into a very beautiful young woman, to which my grandma replied, "Have you started in on the sherry early this evening, Henry?" FML
Today, feeling very self-conscious about my looks, I told my mom I felt ugly and wished I could be as beautiful as her. She only said, "Yeah, I'm pretty, I wonder what happened to you." FML
Today, my date told me I have a smile that "reminds him of his grandma." Then he showed me a picture. I look exactly like her. FML
Today, my grandma was leaning over in front of me, vacuuming, while wearing a V-neck shirt. Out of instinct, I glanced at her chest. She's 75. I checked out my 75 year-old grandma. FML

I don't think OP grandma did that comment in a bad way, she was probably trying to be funny by using some crude humor. But you can always pay back by saying: "Well, at least I got to know how it feels for a while. I feel bad for you, I don't remember you being beautiful ever".

I agree #4, you just worded it wrong. No, everyone is not beautiful. But everyone is beautiful to someone. We all know that one person that is ugly inside and out, but we also know that person who claims they are the most beautiful and amazing person in the universe.

Yup. "Welcome to Lake Wobegon, where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average." As long as we want to keep the common sense intuition that a "beautiful" person is more attractive than the average, then it follows that there have to be people of below-average looks and probably of so-so ones as well. Bottom line - if we end up with a compliment everyone deserves receiving, it's no longer a compliment WORTH receiving.
