Today, my mom announced to everyone that she wants at least ten grandchildren. I'm an only child. FML

So yeah I've seen some comments asking for a follow up... I'm a girl. my mom has always said that her greatest regret was not having more children herself, but she's, you know, going through menopause... So I think wanting a lot of grandchildren is her way of making up for that. She has also clarified that she will be happy with four grandchildren, which is what I want to have. It was just wishful thinking that she could have that many grandchildren to help raise. Sorry if this long comment is confusing, but I hope it helps to clear things up!

Remind her that she's going to have to buy Christmas and birthday presents for all those kids. Twenty presents to buy a year, and that's just the grandkids. Ten baby showers to help you plan, assuming there are no multiples. You'll send all ten kids to her house whenever you need a babysitter, or whenever they just want to see Grandma. Any family trips will involve all of them running around like crazy, at least eleven tickets to buy, snacks and souvenirs for everyone, enough hotel rooms for everyone, at least eleven plane tickets or enough gas to fill up your gigantic van(s) you'll have to have. Even just trying to take your kids to the movies will be a feat. Have as many kids as you want, it's not her choice to make.

Its easy to want 10 grandkids: grandma doesnt have to do any of the work, or birth them all. She gets to hold them, and hand them back when she has had enough interaction. So yeah "wanting 10 grandkids" is easy to ask for because At the end of the day, she isnt the one solely responsible.
