Today, my little sister asked if she could play on my laptop, but I said no because I was writing an essay for school. She then bit herself hard and showed the mark to our parents, saying I did it. As they bitched me out, my sister got on my laptop and deleted my half-finished essay. FML

It's okay you guys, I got it all sorted out not too long after I submitted this FML. My little sister got in trouble and I received more time on my essay which I passed so everything turned out great on this one. ^__^

That sucks. And that is why you should save every now and then. Let this be a lesson. It's happened to me several times. It sucks.

Ctrl+Z works if she only deleted the text. if she trashed the file, it should be on the recycle bin / trash folder, whatever your computer calls it. Otherwise, unless it was really short, a file recovery program may be faster than retyping it. Just make sure the program's legit.

Aren't her bite marks smaller?

Well... she has issues. And so do your parents.

Did you check your computer's recycling bin ?

Your own fault that she was able the access things. Your laptop should have been password protected and not left logged in when unattended. You getting in trouble is one thing, but the loss of the essay is entirely on you. Sleep mode should require password on resume, and you should use sleep mode or log out any time you're leaving the laptop unattended gor a period of time that isn't long enough to merit a full shut down. This is just common sense. Now the whole biting and blaming you thing is little demon child youngest child behavior and your parents should know better, especially if they had younger siblings.

Er, no. The sister is guilty of wrongdoing, it's all on the sister. Yes, password protection would help, but blaming the OP is idiotic - she didn't do anything wrong (assuming OP is being 100% honest here). The chances are the sister went screaming to the parents, who would probably scream at OP to come and meet them RIGHT NOW!!! You hear that tone of voice as a kid, you're not thinking password protection. And it's a sad state of affairs when you have to regard family members the same way you regard criminals. And anyway, where does that train of logic stop? "He was sitting in his house WITHOUT a shotgun and two attack dogs? Dude, he was just asking to be murdered! It's all on him!"

Not to mention the fact that Op was ordered by her parents to let her sister play on the laptop. No password protection or anything else is going to help if she has to let her sister play on her computer.
