Today, my first day on the job, I locked up the office after everyone left and set the alarm. An hour later, my new boss angrily emailed me that I locked him inside the building, setting off the alarm and prompting the entire police department to show up. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Security breach
Today, I woke up early for work. Had my coffee, finished up a report and headed out of my house. Not only was the office closed today, but the silent alarm was on, which is triggered by a door opening even if you use a key. I was startled by the cops searching the building, ran, and got tased. FML
Working too hard!
Today, after spending 6 hours straight working on a project at school, I decided to call it a night. The instant I set foot out of the lab, the building started screaming. The maintenance guy had set the alarm without telling me. The police had to let me out. FML
I hate Mondays
Today, moments after leaving early, my boss emails me asking if I'm in the office. After an illegal U-turn, running a stop sign, parking in a visitor spot, and sneaking back to my desk, I find out she was locked out of the building but had since found her keys and let herself back in. FML
Bad day
Today, I accidentally set off an alarm at the school I work for. No one was there, I didn't have the code or password the company needed, my boss wouldn't answer his phone, three policemen interrogated me and asked for ID, but realized I left home without my wallet. There was nothing I could do. I cried. FML
Today, after closing down the gas station I work at, I went to unlock the door to the building. Turned out the lock broke and I was locked inside until my boss could get there to let me out. FML
Today, it was my second day at my new job as a bank teller. I got locked in the vault while alarms were being tested. I was in there for an hour and none of my coworkers had even noticed that I'd gone missing. Gee, thanks. FML
Today, I got locked inside my apartment due to the locking mechanism being stuck, so I had to call off work. They refused to believe me, and insisted that I be in on time or else there would be disciplinary actions taken. Maintenance wasn't available till 3 hours into my shift. FML
Today, it was my first day going to work with new hours where I'm in the office alone for an hour. I managed to lock myself out without my jacket, my phone, and my keys. It was raining. FML
High security
Today, while working my overnight shift, I went into the isolation room to find some items for a former client. The door fell shut and the magnetic lock went to work. Both unit telephones and my cell phone were lying on the desk, and I waited four hours for my supervisor to rescue me. FML
Today, my boss walked down to my office with me to get some paperwork after a very tense, important meeting. He patiently waited while I tried to unlock my office door with my remote for my car. Twice. FML

Unless they gave you proper instructions on how to do it you're not to blame. Granted, someone should've stayed with you just in case.

Promoting an entire police department? Your office must be super popular with law enforcement.

True, but unfortunately it seems like OP's boss doesn't feel this way

It's a little weird that the boss doesn't know the code to disarm the alarm. When my dad was president of his small-medium sized company since he was usually the first in/last out he decided on the 4-digit code. Also, whenever there was a "breach" he'd get a call from the security company alerting him and asking if police should be dispatched (same thing with our home alarm system, actually).

He had the proper instructions. The problem was that the building wasn't empty yet.

The FML was published with the spelling error, and later changed. Made me laugh extra hard the first time I read it. As my eyes auto-corrected it, then caught the error.

That was a completely different word you idiot, just because you aren't smart enough to spell doesn't mean you're right.

Rip, but its ok since you are the new guy.

YDI, idiot. You should have checked if the building was empty before setting the alarm. I hope you lose your job.

It's not OP's fault. They didn't know that anyone was still inside. But because it was their first day someone should've been with them just in case.

Well aren't you a douchebag? It was an honest mistake and at least they did lock up the building. The boss should never have left an employee to lock up on their first day. If anyone, the boss did it.

wow I didn't realize that being human and making a mistake is justification to fore someone who's new and isn't quit sure what they're doing. sounds like to me the managers are more to blame in this situation..

Shhh! Troll alert. Maybe if we stay quiet he'll leave.

On a positive note...at least he knows you did your due diligence and did it right. just make sure 100% next time that no one is in there

It was your first day, why were you the one locking up?
