Today, my boyfriend turned down a job that would have more than doubled his income because he didn't want to upset his current boss by quitting. FML

heartmytrucker tells us more.

Ok, some details, My boyfriend is a truck driver, the job he was offered would have meant a dedicated run instead of what he does now, which is just hoping that the workers get his load ready in time, otherwise he ends up losing a day of work, he already knows that he gets paid less than most of the other drivers in our area. The biggest problem is that his boss is his stepfather and he felt like he would be leaving him high and dry. And I totally agree that money isn't everything, but this new job meant not just more money but also more home time to spend with me and our daughter. On the upside though after I sent this one we sat down and had a long talk and he did decide to take the new job after all (I think it helped that the new place told him they were going to buy him a new truck!).

It's not always about the money

I think he may need to grow a pair.

He's probably porking the secretary there tbh

Why is this your FML, you aren't married so the most you could realistically hope for is more presents. Assuming you guys are a long standing relationship where you live together it still makes little sense because what would you have done? Swung more bills his way so You could have more spending money from Him changing jobs? Married would be different but I'm not sure why a girlfriend would say FML to this.

Read the follow up, they have a daughter.

unless his boss is a dear friend, ******* him or giving him a raise, the only person he should be worrying about upsetting is op.

Read the follow up. The boss is his step-father.

I can sympathize with that. I really want to leave my current job but my boss has done so much for me so it's hard to just up and leave. Especially when you know your work is valued.

Are you providing some income as well, OP? I hope you're not relying on your boyfriend to be the only one paying bills and the like. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you're living together and are both paying the bills. That's better than just one person pulling the weight, but it does suck that he didn't take a job that would make life easier. I don't make that much right now but I love my job, bosses, and co-workers, and I really don't want to leave. But I'm engaged and my fiancé makes more money, though hopefully he can transfer and make more yet, which would make it easier for both of us. But I get where he's coming from, but I also get where you're coming from.

Idk I can't vote either way. I understand his loyalty, but know first hand what home time means.

what an idiot

You're a gold digger aren't you?

Hm, at least you know he wont be leaving you any time soon.

Is your boyfriend Canadian?
