Today, my best friend got engaged to the guy she's been seeing for five years. He also happens to be the man I've been in love with for eight. As she was giving me the details, she nonchalantly gave me her reason for accepting the proposal: "Why the hell not, there's always divorce." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my best friend, the man who I've been in love with for nine years, finally told me he loves me and wants to spend the rest of his life with me. Unfortunately, it was while he was using me to practice proposing to his girlfriend. FML
Today, after three years of dating, my boyfriend finally proposed. To my best friend. FML
Today, my best friend told me she's been in love with me for over 4 years. I'm getting married to the man of my dreams in a month and she's supposed to be my bridesmaid. "Awkward" doesn't even begin to describe our friendship right now. FML
Not such a happy ending
Today, I get to see my best friend and love of my life of two years marry the man she loves. Back then, I lied and told her I was gay to avoid her finding out my feelings for her. FML
Fiancé of the year
Today, I found out that my fiancé of three years, with whom I share a child, fell in love with my best friend and they’ve been going on dates for the last four months after work. FML
Break it off
Today, I found out that my fiancée wishes she'd never said yes when I proposed, as she is in love with another man, and has been hiding their relationship for years. FML
With a heavy heart…
Today, I watched my best friend get married to the guy I have been in love with since the eighth grade. I was the maid of honor, and had to give a toast to the couple. FML
Today, I told my best friend I was breaking up with my girlfriend of 3 years. He thought it would be funny to tell her I was going to propose to her that night. She showed up telling me how much she loves me and that when we get married how great it will be. FML
Today, my girlfriend of almost 5 years (who broke up with me only a week or so ago) told me that she's been speaking to one of my best friends and sees a future with him instead of me. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend of 6 years. She said no. Why? She's already married. FML

8 years?? Perhaps it's time for you to move on?? And for those saying for OP to tell him, I think she's missed her window. He wouldn't have proposed if he didn't love her best friend, and no decent friend or human would ruin their best friend's relationship or wedding.

Ouch. That's a doomed marriage for sure, and that sucks for everyone involved. But if dreamboy can't see that she's that shallow and stupid after 5 years, then you should probably stop dreaming about him and find someone better.

I hate it when people think they love someone and therefore have some sort of ownership. You loved him for 8 years, why didn't you ask him out? You won't know if you truly love him if you're not with him. In other words, step out of your selfish fantasy and get over yourself. Also, stop being so dramatic. Life isn't a soap opera.

I do think it's time for you to move on. But that comment your friend made really does piss me off. Marriage is supposed to be a life long commitment, not just something you try on like a piece of clothing. To go into it thinking like that makes it seem like it's already destined to fail.

Is it just me, or does this seem eerily similar to the storyline of that Kate Hudson movie "Something Borrowed"?

Get over it. You were never with him and never shared the intimacy of a relationship, move onto someone else

5 years? I'm pretty sure it's time to get over it.

No offense, but if she's been with him for five years maybe you should stop obsessing. At this point it's just creepy... Plus you had three whole years before that to make your move. There's plenty other fish in the see stop obsessing over this one.

You aren't allowed to be upset with her simply because you've been in love with him longer. You had 3 years worth of chances to get there first, and 5 years to move on and be happy with someone just as good. get over it.

It's your own fault for not having said something before she started dating him. You had 4 years to let him know how you felt and you didn't, now sit back and watch the fruit of your efforts.
