Today, my 13-year-old sister told me that she wants to get pregnant soon to stop her periods for a while. I can't believe we're related. FML
blemarooney tells us more.

Hey guys OP here. I'm a little late on the follow up but here it is anyway. I obviously complained to my mum who sat her down and told her how painful her pregnancies had been. My sister seemed adequately scared. My sister now insists that she had just been kidding but I know for a fact that she wasn't. And finally I assure you guys if she ever brings a guy home to 'stop her periods' I will personally get rid of him.

Did you explain to her that being pregnant and going through labor is 100x worse than getting a period? And the fact that raising a child isn't exactly a piece of cake either?

No thirteen year old kid should be thinking about getting pregnant

Ask her what she plans on naming the baby and mention how painful labor will be. Maybe she's not thinking about these factors and just needs a little realization

Yes, because name and labor are the two hardest parts of parenting.

I personally thought she just meant asking about the name as a backhanded way of saying, "You realize that'll lead to you having a child, right?"

What kind of pregnancies is she learning about, anyway?! I've lived with 2 pregnant women and so far out seems any teenage girl should feel LUCKY to only have periods once a week, because with pregnancies there's the mood swings, and you get fat, and the various pains depending how far you are, and who could forget labor pains? I'd like to see these pregnancies she's hearing about that's actually better than periods, cause I think I'd be onto those better than normal pregnancy.

Once a week?

It wouldn't let me fix the typo, and I'm really out of it right now. I really don't know where the word "week" came from. Maybe I meant "one week." xD

well, periods feel like a knife stabbing you so i dont blame her

I blame the OP's sister. The possible future child doesn't deserve to have her mother only wanting to get pregnant just because she hates the agony of being a woman.

Pregnancy is like having a knife stab at your bladder and your ribs and your stomach and your back, close to 24/7. Sometimes you lose sleep, sometimes you sleep too much. Sometimes you can't even get up. To make it worse, this is CONSTANT for about 7 of the months, even more, that you are pregnant. And in some cases you can still have some bleeding occur. I highly doubt pregnancy can be considered remotely better than periods, and I'm on my period as I type this, with no medications. I've only been pregnant once, but I miscarried, so I don't have a first hand experience. But I've gone through 3 close friends and one cousin who was pregnant, and they all had times they WISHED they only had pain one week ever 3 weeks. instead of constantly. So, I don't see how anyone would agree.

My pregnancy was a breeze. A little morning sickness, no pain, no discomfort, no major weight gain, no feet pain, no backaches, nothing. Labor started out a breeze, natural until the very last when, after crowning, she became stuck and I had to have an emergancy cesarean section. As easy as it was, you know what's easier? Birth control. No periods with certain kinds. I haven't had a period in over six years.

Believe it or not, this is how kids are growing up to think now. Am not sure why this is, but it seems that the generations of kids coming up are getting younger and younger when they start having thoughts like these. Just don't let her act on this thought.

Tell her to go for it

She's 13. Nobody can explain that to their parents, and that's such a stupid reason to get pregnant. Nobody wants a teenage idiot raising a child for the wrong reasons.

No 13 year old should be having such a serious relationship where she is ******* her boyfriend, and way to young to be ******* random guys. I just kissed my boyfriend, and we've been dating for months (first relationship for both of us). I'm not expecting to be ******* anyone anytime soon, let alone getting pregnant. OP, your sister is a ***** and an idiot. I'm sorry for sounding like a bitch, but your sister needs to get her mind back to reading magazines and gossiping with her friends, not trying to get pregnant to skip her periods.

When I was 13, I had a friend who thought it would be a great idea to have a kid once a year so her boobs would always be bigger. (she's still flat chested) we're in our late 20's now and she has one kid. Kids talk out their asses. The girl probably doesn't plan on running out and actually getting pregnant. She probably just mentioned it in passing. No need to go to such extreme name calling. Someone should discuss birth control with her of her periods are such an issue for her. Maybe she's having a lot of pain and doesn't know there are ways to help.

;~; it won't let me correct my typos on my actual comment so...; *it *month

... Has she not heard of birth control? That tends to accomplish the same goal without any of that "crap, now I have to take care of this squalling lump of flesh and poop for the next 18-25 years" nonsense.

I'd feel some empathy for her. This is new for her and she's probably frustrated. Maybe take her for ice cream next time?
