Today, my 12 and 14 year olds told me they'll be doing whatever they like from now on and there will be no rules or bedtime, otherwise they'll tell their teachers that my husband and I abuse them. Where did I go wrong? FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Lockdown is driving us down
Today, my husband went on a tirade, accusing me of bullying and being too hard on our kids. Apparently, I’m taking this homeschool thing too serious, and I need to cut them a break. All I did was make them write their letters and numbers on paper instead of just using their tablets. Yeah, real mean. FML
No boundaries
Today, my parents and in-laws let my 4 year-old watch as much TV as he wants. Not cartoons but brain-rot and weird stuff on YouTube. Let him skip naps. Feed him primarily junk food, and sweets. They don't respect his 8 pm bedtime and let him play until 12 am or later. Then they wonder why I don't visit more often. FML
Quite reasonable
Today, my kids are mad I won’t let them hang out at the “cool” parents house. You know, the house with no rules. I’ve heard way too many horror stories, too many true crime documentaries, plus personal experience, to ever let that happen. I will never EVER trust adults that like to party with kids. FML
The Breeders
Today, my family once again mocked and insulted me for being the only one to not spank my kids. Apparently, they’ll grow up entitled and in prison if I don’t. Odd, seeing as my kids are 10 times better behaved than their kids, who get spanked on a regular. Ah well, here’s to hitting kids I guess. FML
A cautionary tale
Today, my parents still think they can control me. I’m 27, married, and have a son. Even after all the abuse and trauma over the years, they still think that everything is fine. That they did their “best”. Why do they think this is right, and think they should have any right to my son or even see him? FML
My house, your rules
Today, my fiancé's kids say they never want to come back to our house because I’m “mean” and have "too many rules." Rules such as brushing teeth twice a day, flushing the toilet after every use, no food allowed in the bedrooms, and no sleeping in until 2pm. Guess that makes me unreasonable. FML
Sounds like a cult
Today, I realized that my 14 year-old runs my home. She has her own room, while her 11 year-old sister and I (her mother) share a room. I literally have to get her permission to go anywhere as well. FML
Today, my parents threatened to take away my college funds. Why? Because I complained about my 10 pm curfew during break as a freshman in college. FML
Anger management
Today, my parents tried to apologize for wrongly grounding me. I told them to go fuck themselves, so now I'm re-grounded. FML
Today, I once again told my son he needed a job and a girlfriend because I simply could not keep him in my house anymore. He yelled, "No, I can do whatever I want!" Then went back to playing video games. He's 38. FML

You should tell them, that if they say that, they will be taken away from you, and placed in foster care, where there will be rules, bedtimes and chores they're trying to escape.

Something like this happened to my uncle. His son (my cousin) called the cops on him for telling him to study, saying he hurt him. He had to live with us for a couple days. It's sad because now he's too afraid to discipline his youngest one now because if something is brought to the cops again it could get his kids taken away from him.

Clearly there's a lack of authority somewhere. If I ever pulled this shit on my parents, I would've gotten my ass whooped. But that was when spanking wasn't "abuse" and was used for discipline. You cannot let your children walk all over you. Allowing them to do that is what makes them think they can blackmail you with this kind of shit and it will work. Tell them what my parents always told me, "Go ahead and tell them I abuse you, you will get taken away and you will miss me."

Its a terrible system you have! My brother tried the same thing with my parents and tried to get ME taken away from home as punishment for their discipling him, we had a long meeting with a social worker who interviewed our whole family individually and together who then concluded that my brother was the trouble-maker and our parents were decent.

That sucks, in my area , CPS almost never takes a kid wrongfully, but often leaves them when they shouldn't.

I mean, at least you raised them to be smart.

I think they were probably banking on the parents to cave.

Time to give them a reason to tell.

You left out church.

You also forgot that they may actually experience abuse at the hands of foster parents.

Not to mention that their parents risk going to jail and they'll forever be labeled as the kids whose parents beat them. Right now it may seem 'smart' but the guilt over sending innocent people to jail will get to them.

don't the police usually need proof of it like bruises and cuts etc. if not tell the police yourself about what they said because most are usually willing to help out in that situation

You didn't go wrong. I'm sure you will be remembered as the mother of the next powerful and sinister political siblings.

This is why I choose not to have children.

#12, I'm not sure you actually have much of a choice. Really, who is lined up to hit that? lmao
Witch_E_Poo 14
Wow, what a rude, mean comment. Are you sure these kids are not yours? Your just nasty!
jordynshamika 11
That was rude. No need for that kind of stuff. She's just expressing her opinion. And quite frankly, you're not much better off.

Wow, #175 you have a shit-ton of bad karma heading your way if you think that is an ok way to talk to people. Disgusting, what a bad role model to your children.

They are ungrateful for what they have, and that is truly despicable. Millions of children would die for the life they have with two happy parents who love each other and them. Tell them about what foster care means, and if they still believe they can do whatever they want, slap some sense into them.

I personally would try to reach out to some foster parents - or someone who is willing to act as such - and show the kids first hand what it would be like there, making sure plenty chores and early bedtime were lined up, as well as no extra curriculars with school or anything. Leave them there a couple days and they'll be begging to come home!
