Today, like everyday, I got on the train heading back from my university campus in Preston. Usually, it takes 20 minutes. When I sat down, I realised it was a non-stop service to Glasgow and the doors had closed. It took me 7 hours by train and a lift from my best friend at 2 a.m. to get home. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Wrong way down a one way strrreeeeet
Today, I took the wrong train and didn’t realise it until it arrived in Aberdeen. Eight hours from where I was meant to go. FML
Today, I had to take the train from my hometown to my university for a very important meeting concerning my foreign exchange program. When I finally arrived, I noticed a Post-it on the door: "Meeting cancelled, sick". I basically made a 9-hour day-trip for a half-an-hour walk. FML
Zoned out
Today, I took a train to visit a friend and fell asleep for what felt like ten minutes. I woke up at the final stop with the carriage empty. The doors opened, I stepped onto the platform, and immediately realized I had no idea where I was or how I'd got there. FML
Running late, or early?
Today, I saw my train pulling into the station. I sprinted up the stairs and luckily made the train. I looked around and no one was in my compartment. I began to notice that the train was heading down some tracks I'd never been to. I got stuck on an empty train for 3 hours in the train garage. FML
Today, before setting off on my train journey I checked my booking. The (non-refundable) return date was a week later than I intended, and after buying a new ticket online, I was informed that I would be able to collect it in 2 hours. I leave in an hour. I'll have to pay three times to come home. FML
Move!
Today, after two and a half hours of travel, it was finally my stop on the train. I politely waited for a group of women to get off first. They took so long to move that the train doors closed. I shouted at one through the door to call the conductor. She watched and smiled as the train departed. FML
Today, I went to Uni. I woke up at six and got to the station as the train was leaving. I was congratulating myself on my brilliant skill when, as we passed the carpark, I saw I had left my headlights on. It later cost more for the lead to jump start my car than it would have to drive to Uni myself. FML
Confused
Today, my train was delayed, so I sprinted across the station to catch another one. I made it onto the train just before the doors closed. Then I looked around and realized I had boarded the exact same train I had just gotten off. FML
Privatisation
Today, the bus I needed to catch, that replaced the train I needed to catch, to get the flight home was full. I had to get a taxi instead. £140 to the nearest working train station. FML
Today, I went to a friend's "party". Everyone bailed but my friend didn't say anything, so it's just me and my girl. The train tickets alone cost £20. FML

Keep that best friend

That's why I act like a paranoid every day when taking the train. I always check more than once, inside as well as outside the train or by asking other passengers, to make sure I'm in the right train.

Ugh, Glasgow. The river Clyde only runs through Glasgow because if it walked it would get mugged... (I used to live there).

Did you make the best out of the adventure?

Definitely a FML. Preston train station is a nightmare

I bet when the doors closed and you realized you were stuck for 7 hours, you thought in your head "man, this'll make a great FML"

That's an amazing friend if he/she picked you up at 2 a.m.

Wow that really sucks! Good story to tell though. Did you have to for your mistaken trip to Glasgow as well as the trip back?

Nnlo I got a letter to travel at Glasgow luckily, the ticket guy laughed at me every time he walked past on the train back to Carlisle though...

Yikes. That's the last place I'd want to accidentally end up. My boyfriend and I go to uni in a small town a few hours from Glasgow, decided we'd visit for a few days to see what it's like... someone threatened to beat him up within 30 minutes of us arriving.

best friend indeed, you owe him one

Oh damn. I once spent 4 hours trying to get from Preston home to Lancaster after being directed onto the wrong train that took this horrible circuitous route straight to Carlisle. I then had to get a bus south.

Carlisle buses are the worst, I feel for you!
