Today, it was my girlfriend's birthday, so I decided to take her to a fancy restaurant and give her an expensive $400 necklace that I had bought. Being traditional, I asked the waiter to arrange it nicely on the tray when he came with our dessert. Neither he nor the necklace ever showed up. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I bought my girlfriend a very expensive necklace. I gave it to her thinking she'd be extremely happy. Instead she was mad at me because my gift for our anniversary was better than hers. FML
Where d'you go?!
Today, I thought it would be nice to take my girlfriend out to a nice restaurant for my birthday. She got a little headache after we ordered, so she went outside to get some air. I ate a $100 meal and had Happy Birthday sang to me by the restaurant staff. Alone. FML
Bad idea
Today, I took my girlfriend to a very nice restaurant. I thought it would be a good place to pop the question. I gave the ring to the waiter and asked him to put it on her dessert plate. When she saw it, she picked it up, put it down, and said "No". Then she started to eat her dessert. FML
Today, I took my girlfriend out to a fancy restaurant for her birthday. I'd arranged beforehand for some of the staff to come out and sing happy birthday to her, but it all backfired when she started panicking and had a serious anxiety attack from all the attention. FML
Scarpered
Today, I asked the restaurant manager if he could arrange to deliver an engagement ring to me and my girlfriend with our desserts. Desserts came, no ring. That guy wasn’t the manager, just a guy in a suit who legged it with my ring. FML
Today, I finally got everything in order to ask out the girl of my dreams. I bought her a gold necklace, engraved with our names, and with the date on the back. Everything was going great until she got sick and had to go home. Now I'm stuck with this necklace with the wrong date. FML
Terrible exchange rate
Today, I asked my girlfriend about a diamond necklace I bought her for her birthday, which she didn't seem to be wearing. She then told me she hocked it to pay for her inexpensive phone bill. I paid $1,500 for that necklace, she received $300 from the pawn shop. FML
Today, it's my girlfriend's birthday. To celebrate, I spent the day with her and then took her out to a really nice dinner. She is currently giving me the silent treatment because I didn't write "Happy Birthday" on her Facebook wall. FML
How can I make this about me?
Today, it's my birthday. My wife took me to my favorite restaurant for dinner. She made me pay for my birthday dinner, along with hers. She also got me a gift card to HER favorite store. FML
Left behind
Today, it was my best friend's birthday party. Her boyfriend and I agreed to organize a dinner date to surprise her and celebrate. They celebrated, but forgot me until they arrived at the restaurant and saw the dinner reservation under my name. FML

Sorry OP, but ydi. When you do something like this, you should call ahead and speak with the owner so they know what is going to happen and they know who is serving you. At least you can ask who was serving you, the restaurant will have their info and you can call the cops from there. With out any evidence good luck. I hope they have camera recordings of the transaction.

You should always talk to the manager/owner about this kind of thing.

Never, ever, ever do this. Even if they have security cameras, there's a chance the police will consider it a civil issue since you handed the necklace over. My friend decided to propose to his girlfriend a few years ago. He arranged with a restaurant to have the ring brought out on her dessert plate, and turned it over to them. When their desserts came...no ring. Suddenly, there was a squeal from across the room. The ring went to the WRONG table, where another couple happened to be sitting. When my friend and a server approached the table with the ring, they refused to give it back. The police said that since they didn't steal the ring, it was a civil matter. My friend sued them in small claims court for the return of the ring, and the server showed up as a witness on the agreement that my friend didn't sue the restaurant. By the time the court date came the couple who had ended up with the ring had split up and the man had sold it. My friend won his case, but the jurisdictional maximum (which he got) was $5,000. He'd paid more than $20,000.00 for the ring. Always make sure that jewelry and other high-value items go directly from your hands to the recipient's!

Wow that's really shitty of the other couple to not return it. I would've had the police there before they'd left.

They did. The police said that since they didn't take the ring, it had been given to them, they hadn't committed a crime and it was a civil court matter.
