Today, I worked from home to actually be able to concentrate and make a presentation about my project. My boss then sends me a long email about how he wants us to work in the office, and how important it is for team building, giving me feelings of guilt for actually getting some work done. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Shut up already!
Today, I thought working through the holidays would mean little to do and the boss telling me stories all day. Actually, it meant having loads to do, while my boss was telling me stories regardless, effectively keeping me from doing the work he is paying me for. FML
Well done!
Today, I received a company-wide email from my boss, praising a coworker's extra effort at improving our line of business. The coworker's efforts were a direct copy-and-paste of a plan I put together three months ago. No one cared when I gave the presentation. FML
Today, I worked 12 long hours cooped up in my office. Before leaving, my boss asked me whether I'll ever take my job seriously. FML
One law for thee…
Today, my boss called me while I was working from home to bitch me out over being away from my computer for 49 minutes, when my lunch break is only 45 minutes, thus wasting another 13 minutes. My boss is known for spending hours online gaming from home during work hours. FML
No respect
Today, I was excited to finally take a day off work and relax at home. However, as soon as I was on the couch to Netflix and chill with my cat, I got a call from my boss saying I was needed at the office to fix a major issue. I ended up spending the entire day at work and didn't get to enjoy my "day off." FML
Today, I finished a very important but annoying presentation that took four hours to complete. Only after writing a paragraph to explain the presentation and sending it to my boss did I realize that I saved the document as "Shit I have to do to get a promotion." FML
Today, my boss pulled me aside to chastise me for being "off task" because I was chatting with a co-worker while working on a project. She then spent a half hour chatting with the same person about what daycare she should go to for her new baby. FML
Manager of the week
Today, my boss yelled at me for ignoring emails on my day off. Our emails are only accessible from work desktops, so I’d have had to be at my desk to answer it, which I had to explain to him 3 times before he understood. This is what happens when CEO’s promote their nephews to middle management. FML
Today, my co-worker spent the afternoon taking online personality quizzes and messaging everyone the results. She was particularly proud of one which told her she was a hard-working overachiever. My boss walked by just as the message for that one popped up and I got in trouble for slacking off. FML
Rookie mistake
Today, I was working from home. I felt very sleepy, so I set my online status “Active” and went back to bed. I woke up to 3 missed calls from my boss and an email from him, containing a webcam screenshot of me asleep in bed. I totally forgot he has remote access to my computer. FML

I understand his issue with it, but maybe if you explained the situation to your boss he wouldn't mind you working from home on occasion. Either way, good luck with your presentation, OP.

He put the duck in productivity, cuz the dude sounds like a quack at being a boss.
Obito_Uchiha651 17
The word duck is not in productivity
expertsmilee 26
It sure is, just ain't spelled the same way.
teentee401 37
If it's spelled different it ceases to be the same word. Duc is not a word.

It's sad that some bosses are still so old school, and I don't see how your working from home once is bad for team building. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't work from home.

YDI because you should have cleared it with your boss first. Simples.

Well, maybe if you go in and he sees how less efficient you are then maybe he will be able to understand why for you it's best to work at home.

"Yes sir, I understand all of that, sir. I just thought I should actually get some work done, sir."

Maybe just finish what you're doing at home and after that just do everything at work? If your boss asks, just say you finished all of it before you saw the email! He can't really complain about you doing a good job with your work!

Wish I could work from home so I wouldn't have to deal with some of the idiots. I don't see a problem where you work as long as the job gets done. Obviously don't make it an every day thing, but if you stay home every once in a while to rev up your productivity then why not.

I would just ignore him, do what gives you the most productivity and try to explain it to him.

Yeah because ignoring your boss is a great idea.... Try and explain it to him by all means but I wouldn't ignore him.

I think OP still wants to complete this PhD... It's a lot easier when your supervisor doesn't hate you. So sorry about your situation OP... Proceed with caution on this one!

Don't feel guilty if your co-workers are idiots, but he probably wants to increase the chemistry between workers by communicating more.

You could try telling him that when you're at the office you're getting paid to accomplish nothing but that may not be in your best interest
