Today, I woke up to my cat giving birth, on my bed. I adopted her from a friend, who told me she was spayed. Now I have a giant mess and a cat who won't let me move either her or her babies. Guess I'm sleeping on the couch for a while. FML

This is OP. Mama and babies are safely tucked away in the guest bedroom. The mom put up one hell of a fight and i have the scratches to prove it. All six kittens are doing fine. Spoke to my friend, she admitted to lying about spaying the cat. I told her she could pay the vet bills and buy me a new mattress.

She is not much of a friend, more an idiot for not having her spayed. And no, breeding your pets is not an entitlement. I hope part of those vet bills includes a spay eventually. Sorry you had to go through that suprise, OP. At least she has agreed to pay. Get yourself a nice bed out of it.

Its not the blanket they like so much as it is the position of said blanket in space. It is a position in which the mother feels safe to give birth as she knows she and her kittens will be largely immobile for a while.

It's not easy to tell, as there's even a long span of slow weight gain. I was the only one who could tell that my aunt's cat was pregnant, and I don't see it much while they see it every day.

Lure mom out of the room with treats, move kittens into a cardboard box with towels, let mom back in. Repeat if she tries to move them back onto your bed. Most moms get really nervous if their kittens keep being moved and will choose a new place altogether to hide them. Most likely UNDER the bed. Your bedding isn't salvageable though.
