Today, I woke up excited for my trip to Jamaica with my friends. We went to the airport, and I gave them my passport to check in. They gave it back. It had expired three weeks ago. I watched my friends board the plane while I'm stuck in the city. FML

Today, I found out that my passport expired two days ago, two days before my first vacation abroad. I only found out when the airline employee scanned it at check-in, looked at me with sympathy, and said, "I don't think you're going anywhere today." My friends are currently posting beach photos while I'm filling out passport renewal forms. FML
Today, I went to the airport to start the amazing 3 week vacation in Costa Rica that I've been saving for and planning for more than a year. They wouldn't let me on the plane because my passport expires in less than 6 months. FML
Today, I went with my girlfriend to the airport for some much needed vacation time. We arrived on time but were stopped at the gate when they told me I didn't have the right passport. The plane left without me. My girlfriend did too. FML
Today, after cancelling work, arguing with my family, scrambling to pack my bags, speeding to the airport and filling in immigration forms to fly out to have a much needed holiday, I wasn't allowed to check in. My passport has less than 6 months away from expiration on it. Yes, that's a thing, apparently. FML
Today, my mom and I went to catch our flight to Jamaica. She ended up being detained and questioned, because she packed hairspray, shampoo, drinks, basically half the shit you're not allowed to have in your luggage. We missed our flight. FML
Today, we're taking the plane home from Dublin after a school trip that I only barely got onto after troubles with my passport. Luckily for me, a kind person had decided to save me from the passport this evening - together with the rest of my wallet. I'm stuck. FML
Today, I was unable to go on my dream vacation because I thought I'd lost my passport. Feeling incredibly stupid, I had no choice but to watch my plane depart without me. Shortly after, my brother handed me passport, saying that since I wasn't going on my trip, I could use my refund to pay for his cat's surgery. My trip was non-refundable. FML
Today, I was heading out for my flight to Australia. I'd put a padlock on my luggage to keep my wallet and passport safe, only to realize way too late that I'd left the key at home. I couldn't get at my passport and ended up missing my flight and my whole vacation along with it. FML
Today, I was stuck at the airport overnight waiting for my flight for about 5 hours. I then went and looked at the departures board. It said that my flight had already departed. FML
Today, after spending 2 years saving for my flights, I was denied boarding due to issues with my passport. I heading straight to the embassy only to be told a replacement will take 8 days. The airline will only hold my place for 7. FML

Wow, I wouldnt say YDI coz that REALLY sucks, but it is kinda your fault. You should have checked. I know of a similar story though, a family was travelling from the UK to Spain to do a touring bike ride for a week or two. Passports are valid for ten years and they knew their passports were still valid. They forgot children's passports are only valid for 5 years and realised the day before they were supposed to leave that their 14 year old son's passport was expired. They had planned the cycling holiday for him coz he's a mad-keen cycler who wants to do the Tour de France etc when he is older so they couldn't very well go without him.

you are NOT dumb and you did NOT deserve this. i was supposed to go on a trip to jamaica w/ my bf and his family. we got to the airport and that was when i was told that mypassport had expired. passports expire after 10 years if you get one after you turn 18 and 5 years before that. i got mine when i was14 and i am 21 and guess where i didnt get to go?? yeah it sucks but the good part was we were able to cancel the trip..get the money back and kept the free air fair..oh ya and the best part was my bf sacrificed his vacation and stayed with me. we will eventaully go to jamaica one day..just not this year.

Actually, it's kind of dumb to not check a passport before going on a trip and assuming it's not expired. You know what they say about assuming. And to be perfectly honest, checking my passport expiration date is the first thing I do if I know I'm going to be leaving the country. So yes, OP kinda deserves the YDI on this one.
