Today, I went to a birthday party for my friend's daughter. I picked up a gift for the girl and another for her parents. I got the mother a cute little garden stone that read "What our children see in the world depends on what we show them." Later, I found out her daughter is blind. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Pass the parcel
Today, I went to my son's friend's birthday party and felt really proud of giving a great gift. It just so happened that I regifted the same gift that his friend's mother gave to my son the month before, because I forgot to check the name on the bag. It looked like she was about to faint. FML
Today, it was my daughter's birthday. I didn't know I had a daughter. FML
Today, I was at my class's band concert. Before the curtain was raised, I helped haul the piano to a different spot so a girl who would've had to stand behind it could be seen. I said, "There, now your mom can see you play!" She responded with, "My mom's blind." FML
Happy intoxication day
Today, my sisters and I were throwing my mom a birthday party. Since I'm not good at baking, I ordered her a really nice and expensive cake. As my daughter and I were headed out the door, she told me she had added some sprinkles to make it pretty. It was the silica beads from a package. FML
Today, it was my mom's birthday. I decided to get her a Willow Tree statue of a woman fairy holding a heart. After dinner, I presented my gift. My mother asked me how much it was. I replied, $30. She threw me a dirty look, shoved the present in my direction, and told me to return it. FML
Birthday Bitch
Today, I received an angry phone call from a friend whose birthday party I missed last night. Yesterday, I gave birth to my son. She claims that I ruined her party and demands I still bring her a birthday gift. FML
Classic blunder
Today, I found out my best friend was having a birthday party and I wasn't invited, so I asked her why. She replied, "What birthday party?" It was a surprise birthday party. FML
Old dog, new tricks
Today, for my mom's birthday, I couldn't figure out what to get her, so I just took some of her jewelry, wrapped it up, and re-gifted it. She recognized it instantly. FML
"Your text here"
Today, I gave my friend what I thought was the perfect birthday gift, a personalized mug with her favourite quote. When she opened it, she looked confused so I explained. Then she said, "I’ve never ever said that." I realized I'd printed a quote from a completely different friend. I awkwardly told her, “Well, now you have something new to say!" FML
Thanks for the memories
Today, my mom lit a candle in our living room, telling the family how much she loved it. She then went on the tell us that my dad got it for her and it must have been some cheap candle. I bought the candle as a gift for her on her birthday. FML

I'm assuming that you didn't know her well enough to know she had a blind daughter... that plus the fact that the message is clearly figurative should get you off the hook loll just don't make a big scene about it with her and you should be fine :)

Personally, I find the phrase to be even more relevant when the daughter is blind.

I agree with everyone who has said that the gift could be seen as MORE meaningful in light of their daughter's visual impairment. It's sweet, saying she still has the opportunity to show her daughter all the beauty in this world even though she can't see it on her own. Because she can't see it on her own. As long as you didn't get her daughter, like, a book of optical illusions..

Well, it's not like you knew. Personally, I wouldn't lose sleep over it if I were in your shoes.

I'm not even sure that's fml-worthy. I mean, sheesh, it's not even all that funny. Plus, the quote still applies. You don't exactly have to 'see' with your eyes in that sense.

#11 - agreed. Probably brought a tear to her eye (in a good way).

Seeing isn't always with your eyes...sometimes you make friends and you don't know every detail about their lives and the people involved in their lives...it happens. I'm sure if they're any decent people they'd forgive it. It's a nice statement. lol

A LITTLE SUGGESTION: YOU CAN TOTALLY PULL IT OFF BY ACTING AS THE SWEETEST FRIEND EVER, AND INTERPRET IT AS: no worries, dear friends of mine, maybe she can't see, BUT, what she really sees depends on what we show her!! LOVE!!! CARE!!! WHOLE LOT MORE!!!

Yeah, #11 is right. I think that if her parents have accepted her blindness then you gave the perfect gift. However, if they're sensitive about it it might not have gone over well. Wouldn't worry about it, they know you meant well.
