Today, I went for a job briefing, and after that was told to do some editing for them. When I asked the person whether I was paid for the day, she laughed and said no. She was serious. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I went to ask my boss for a raise. He laughed at me and said, "That's hilarious because I was going to ask you if you could take a pay cut!" FML
Stuck
Today, after declining an amazing job offer that pays more than double what I make now in order to accept a promotion my boss offered me if I stayed, I asked when I would receive the promotion and pay raise. She snorted and said, "You thought I was serious about that?" FML
Today, after a long couple of months working non-stop, I finally got someone to cover my shift. Turns out she was joking, and when I didn't show up for work, I was fired. FML
Formality
Today, on my first day of work, my new boss treated me to lunch. Thinking she was really nice, I thanked her for the treat. She fixed me with a cold, unsmiling stare and said, "Oh, don't thank me. I'm being paid to do this." FML
How very dare you?
Today, I was getting lunch at a fast food restaurant. My boss was in front of me, and in order to get on his good side I offered to pay. Instead, I got fired because I guess my boss assumed I was making fun of his salary, which I knew nothing about. FML
No joke
Today, I was at a local restaurant. When I went to pay my bill, one of the owners jokingly said, "Are you here to apply for a job?" Since I've been unemployed for a while and trying to find work, I said, "What would you like me to do?" She replied, "That was a rhetorical question." I knew it. FML
Today, I called a possible employer I had an interview with about a week ago to see if I had got the job that I have already been trained for. Her response? "Are you sure I interviewed you?" FML
Today, my boss told me they were letting me go because they "could no longer afford to pay me." Never mind the catered lunch they had the day before, which cost more than a week's worth of my salary. FML
Today, I went in for I thought would be an interview for a promotion, but turns out there was no interview set up, and they'd already decided who would be the next manager. FML
Cut the crap
Today, as usual, I got to my internship early, did everything my bosses asked. At the end of the day, I was fired after 3 weeks of working unpaid overtime because they found an applicant with more experience for the job I applied to and they wanted to cut costs. FML

you could always write it off on your resume as volunteer work if you didn't get the job. other future employers will eat that sh*t up.

that is a screening tool for recruitment and selection...... realistic job previews. You do the job for the day and management and staff choose the person they think they would work the best with

Cry more. No one was forcing you to work.

Tell the boss "me love you long time" and offer a rub and tug, etc. so you can come away from the day with at least bus fare.

its Common to work for 2 weeks without pay for job training. I did it. so suck it up buttercup. it was part of one day. a million dollar job isnt just going to plop in your lap.

What country do you live in that you did two weeks of training without pay? it's illegal in the USA to do any kind of work without pay and illegal for a supervisor to make you do work without being paid or "on the clock."

I have to do testing for every job I apply for. They can last anywhere from 45 minutes to 5 hours. It's to show that you understand and do well in the field. I highly doubt that someone let you edit something and didn't recheck it to see if you knew what you were doing.

Me too. I am in a technical field, and I've even had to take English comprehension and logic tests.

I've gotten paid for any work I do and any training, and all my jobs are like little part-time student jobs. I was going to say, that sound illegal, but you're not from the USA. That really sucks.

YDI. You need to get paperwork in and verify that you would be paid before doing any work. Sounds like you need to talk to a lawyer.

i think they wanted to see you "in action" and test your skills, and that's not really uncommon.
